Book excerpt: Based on the idea that the Vietnam War is highly significant as a vehicle for studying the power of language, engaging in critical thinking, and probing American values in a time of crisis, this book presents a rationale for exploring the literature that emerged from that conflict and offers a framework for exploring it. The book outlines a large array of classroom activities and assignments designed to help students inquire and form their own conclusions, and supplies extensive information on resources for teachers and students. After a section on theory and research, the book offers activities based on researching the war; teaching poetry; drama and film; personal narratives; teaching novels; and character analysis in novels. The book also includes selected and annotated resources for classroom use, a list of 59 works cited, and 25 student activity sheets. (NKA)

Download or read book Unrelenting Love written by Richard Doggett and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unrelenting Love is the story of Jack Soule. Growing up as a boy in Colorado and Washington, he came to know the Lord at an early age. Like so many young men in the 1960s and early 1970s, Jack was sent to fight in Vietnam as a Hospital Corpsman with the US Marines. The horror and suffering of war changed Jack and separated him from his relationship and faith in God. Decorated for valor, Jack was a Corpsman many looked up to, yet inside he was scared, alone, and suffering from PTSD. Jack began to achieve all that he ever wanted, but nothing filled the emptiness deep inside. Jack believed that he had failed God and had committed acts that were beyond God's forgiveness. Jack's journey back to God's grace and mercy is an exciting story of love, loss, suffering, and heartache as he questioned whether he would ever again feel God's love-until God sent Jack the answers to all of his questions in the form of a seven-year-old girl.

MARINE RECON Reconnaissance units are the commander’s eyes and ears on the battlefield. They are task organized as a highly trained six man team capable of conducting specific missions behind enemy lines. Employed as part of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force, reconnaissance teams provide timely information to the supported commander to shape and influence the battlefield. The varying types of missions a Reconnaissance team conduct depends on how deep in the battle space they are operating. Division Reconnaissance units support the close and distant battlespace, while Force Reconnaissance units conduct deep reconnaissance in support of a landing force. Common missions include, but are not limited to: Plan, coordinate, and conduct amphibious-ground reconnaissance and surveillance to observe, identify, and report enemy activity, and collect other information of military significance. Conduct specialized surveying to include: underwater reconnaissance and/or demolitions, beach permeability and topography, routes, bridges, structures, urban/rural areas, helicopter landing zones (LZ), parachute drop zones (DZ), aircraft forward operating sites, and mechanized reconnaissance missions. When properly task organized with other forces, equipment or personnel, assist in specialized engineer, radio, and other special reconnaissance missions. Infiltrate mission areas by necessary means to include: surface, subsurface and airborne operations. Conduct Initial Terminal Guidance (ITG) for helicopters, landing craft, parachutists, air-delivery, and re-supply. Designate and engage selected targets with organic weapons and force fires to support battlespace shaping. This includes designation and terminal guidance of precision-guided munitions. Download or read book Royal Artillery Glossary written by Philip Jobson and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its creation in 1716, the Royal Artillery has been a cornerstone of the British Armed Forces, as their motto Ubique, 'Everywhere' implies. In this book Philip Jobson has collated the enormous and complex artillery lexicon which has accumulated since that day, as dynamic as its subject to keep pace with technical and tactical innovation. The development of indirect fire, counter battery, anti-tank and anti-aircraft fire all required a novel vocabulary, as did advances in survey and locating. Changes in communication from shouts, to flags, to line, to radio, to compressed data transmission all left their mark on the language. Epic in scope and detail, even the most expert Gunner would be likely to fail an unseen test based on this work. It will therefore be a pleasure to those who think themselves expert to browse this volume, and will serve as an invaluable reference for historians and researchers to ensure that they use the correct term and understand its true meaning.

Book excerpt: In Sicily, Normandy, and in the frozen hills of the Ardennes, America's airborne warriors proved themselves some of the toughest and most determined soldiers of World War 2. What made these soldiers so special? How were they recruited, how did they learn to jump and fight? What special tactics and equipment did they use? This title looks at what it was like to be one of the United States' airborne elite, through the experiences of the soldiers themselves. It is the story of the men who invariably led the way; the soldiers who flew to battle and walked home.

Download or read book Battle for Baqubah written by First Sergeant Robert S. Colella, Ret. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-04-12 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Battle for Baqubah: Killing Our Way Out is a firsthand account—and sometimes a minute-by-minute tale—of a raw, in-your-face street fight with Al Qaeda militants over a fifteen-month span in the volatile Diyala Province of Iraq. This story is presented through the eyes of a first sergeant serving with B Company 1-12 Cavalry (Bonecrushers), 1st Cavalry Division, out of Fort Hood, Texas. The author takes the reader into the midst of the conflict in and around Baqubah—Iraq’s “City of Death”—a campaign that lasted most of 2007. The author and his fellow Bonecrushers watched as the city went from sectarian fighting amongst the Shiite and Sunnis, to an all-out jihad against the undermanned and dangerously dispersed US forces within Baqubah and the outlying areas.
