Book Illumination and Photometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Illumination and Photometry Classic Reprint written by William Elgin Wickenden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Illumination and Photometry The preparation of this volume was undertaken with a view to providing an adequate text-book of the subject for the use of colleges of engineering. It is not intended to be a handbook of technical data nor a manual of practical instructions. Emphasis is therefore given to the scientific basis of the subject and to methods of rational analysis rather than to the description of processes of manufacture, structural details and prevailing practice. A condensed form of treatment has been sought throughout. In the work of instruction much of the subject-matter may profitably be amplified by lectures, supplementary reading and the working out of problems. Familiarity with the technique of photometry should be sought in the laboratory in connection with such a course. The material herein contained to a large extent represents the basis of a course in Illumination and Photometry given by the University of Wisconsin, and the author acknowledges with pleasure much helpful encouragement and many suggestions from Prof. Murray C. Beebe of that institution. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Light Photometry and Illumination

Download or read book Light Photometry and Illumination written by William Edward Barrows and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Light, Photometry and Illumination: A Thoroughly Revised Edition of "Electrical Illuminating Engineering" This book is designed as a text in illuminating engineering and a reference for the practicing engineer. It is the outgrowth of sets of notes written and compiled by the author for use in his classes at the Armour Institute of Technology, and of his previous book, "Electrical Illuminating Engineering." In the construction of this volume the author has freely consulted the volumes of the technical press and particularly the Transactions of the Illuminating Engineering Society, the Illuminating Engineer the Bulletin of the Bureau of Standards, and the Electrical World. It has been the aim of the writer to assemble the best ideas and thoughts available on the subject of artificial illumination and in so doing he has freely drawn from the works of eminent authorities on particular phases of this subject as will be seen from the references cited. In this connection grateful acknowledgment is made to the writings and investigations of Dr. H. E. Ives, Dr. A. S. McAllister, Dr. E. B. Rosa, Mr. M. D. Cooper, Mr. A. J. Sweet, Mr. A. A. Wohlauer and others whose excellent papers and kind permission to use them are greatly appreciated. The author also washes to express his appreciation of criticisms and suggestions by Dr. H. E. Ives, of the kindness of Mr. F. H. Bernhard in reading proof and criticising copy, and of the efforts of the publishers in editing the book. Book Electrical Photometry and Illumination

Download or read book Electrical Photometry and Illumination written by Hermann Bohle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electrical Photometry and Illumination: A Treatise on Light and Its Distribution, Photometric Apparatus, and Illuminating Engineering This book is primarily intended as a text-book for second year engineering students. It contains in an amplified form the lectures delivered by the author during the session 1911. The subject of photometry and illuminating engineering has been somewhat neglected in the past, and whereas one finds scores of books on electrical machinery, there have been very few on photometry and lighting. Yet this subject is as important as, or even more so than, the design of dynamos and motors. It Is useless to raise the efficiency of generators and motors by 1 or 2 per cent. And afterwards to waste the power by improper illuminating engineering. Illuminating engineering is a combined science of physics and physiology. This has been far too little understood in the past, with the result that physiology has hardly been considered. Our knowledge of physiological science is still very meagre. We neither possess any apparatus with which we can measure the physiological quality of an illumination, nor have we been able to remove the difficulties which we encounter when lights of different colours are compared. For a long time - while englneers were busily engaged in perfecting the generating plant and the light-producing devices - the subject of illuminating engineering was left in the background, with the result that one often finds the finest buildings poorly lighted, not so much from the physical, as from the physiological standpoint. Especially, architects are to blame in this direction 3 any illumination is often considered good enough, as will be gathered from the fact that for a. Particular building costing the sum allocated by the architects for the lighting was only 100, in spite of the building being largely wanted for entertainments at night. Although the book is primarily intended for college students, it is hoped that it will be found useful by others interested in illuminating engineering, such as medical men, architects, teachers, and even the general public. The mathematics have been kept as elementary as possible, and persons not acquainted with higher mathematics may skip the deductions of the formulae without detriment. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Photometry: A Guide to the Study of the Measurement of Light The increasing commercial and scientific importance of the art of Photometry has frequently been brought under the Author's notice by applications for reference to some standard text-book, in which could be found a comprehensive account of the various methods in daily use, as well as a guide to the many precautions necessary to ensure accurate results from the work. The prevailing uncertainty as to the standard of light cannot long be maintained; and, when a change does take place, many will be the inquiries for a concise description of the new method. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Illuminants and Illuminating Engineering Illumination would be welcome at the present moment. We have treated the subject on broad general lines. The initial portion of the book is devoted mainly to the various illuminants, the central portion to photometry and the efi'ect of light on the eye, and the last part to practical lighting problems. Our aim has been to bring together matter not usually available in a single volume, and the subject has been treated in a manner somewhat different from that adopted in previous text-books On Illumination. Book Spectral Photometric Studies Classic Reprint

Download or read book Spectral Photometric Studies Classic Reprint written by Daniel William Murphy and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spectral Photometric Studies The question which we are then called upon to solve is, does the doubling of the amount of light in this manner double the intensity of every part of the spectrum? Let us imagine, first, an infinitely narrow slit; the spectrum from such a source may be called a pure spectrum, since any point in it will contain light of but one wave-length. If this slit be moved in a direction perpendicular to the edge of the prism the spectrum will travel in the same direction; and a stationary point, as the light traveled over it, would be illuminated by light of different colors. Next, let us consider a wide slit, and think of its being divided into infinitely narrow ones; we recognize that every part of the spectrum from such a source will consist of lights of different wave-lengths superposed upon each other. Such a spectrum we will call an impure one, and it is with such that we are required to deal in practical measurements.
