Book Illuminating Revelation

Download or read book Illuminating Revelation written by Kelvin McKisic and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God has revealed Himself in the Word of God as well as in the world around us. And that is what makes the book of Revelation so amazing; that God has revealed the plan for the end of an age, a plan that spells out what will happen to mankind when we refuse to accept the wonderful gift of salvation that God has offered through the death and resurrection of His Son Christ Jesus. The book of Revelation is the only book that gives a blessing to those that read it, and so it was with this purpose that I set out to illuminate what God has already revealed. And in so doing I tried not to be to technical, but at the same time provide enough information for the reader to grasp what is at stake for their eternal state. Rev. Kelvin McKisic (B.TH. Reed Christian College) is the Assistant Pastor of a small Baptist church in Los Angeles, Ca where he shares the pastoral duties caring for the youth of the church. He is an Electrical Engineer by education, a Software Developer by chance, and a born-again Christian by the hand of God. Rev. McKisic has been serving the needs of the pastor at True Light Baptist church for more than five years doing all that God calls him to do. Rev. McKisic is a father of three and a loving husband who realizes the need for prayer in maintaining the family unit. He is a man of God who knows that it is God who is to receive all of the glory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The visionary nature of the Apocalypse—the biblical book of Revelation—along with its detailed descriptions of the end of the world have long made it ideal for illustration. Illuminated texts of the Apocalypse were particularly popular in thirteenth-century England, and the copy in the collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, with its lively narrative miniatures, stands as a testament to the artistic heights achieved during that period. In this richly illustrated book, all eighty-two of the manuscript's images are reproduced in color for the first time. They are accompanied by a full commentary. A general introduction to the history of thirteenth-century English illustrated Apocalypse manuscripts is followed by a succinct study of the artistic context of the Getty's manuscript, as well as a consideration of its style and date. The rest of the commentary is devoted to a stylistic and iconographic analysis of the manuscript's images; there is also a complete translation of the text.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Biblical Tour of our Past Present and Future Have you ever thought about the big picture of life regarding origins, conflicts, and destiny? How does it all fit together? What is it all about? Can we truly understand the historical treasure map found in Genesis 1 through Revelation 22? This book brings into harmony the practical truths and Biblical truths in order to dispel dangerous deceptions and distortions. By connecting the dots of truth and pulling back the veil of mystery and confusion in this extraordinary puzzle we call life, the portrait of reality is revealed. We can discover our purpose and potential to fulfill our destiny. Revealed are opportunities to realize and apply transforming information essential to making wise decisions. You will be empowered with keys to unlock your personal success and endless treasures. I think you will find this book enlightening, thought provoking, and well documented in the authority of scripture. The truth revealed in the coming pages is the result of many questions I had years ago. Finding there were no common or consistent answers to them, I went to my Creator, the source of truth. In God’s word, I have found many amazing and consistent insights that have stood the test of time. Over the years, I have found these answers and insights have not only given me peace of mind, but have also enabled me to see many miraculous things. I believe the information contained in this book will be interesting, relevant, and useful to at least four types of people. To the Skeptic: The honest doubter can see how the Bible has logical and reasonable answers to the problems in our world. It reveals the causes and effects we see all around us, as well as the reasonable conclusions, we often don’t see in time. (Galatians 6:7) To the Truth Seeker: You may be looking at all the different religions of the world with their isolated and disconnected ideas that promote contradictions. It is important to know how to test them to find out if they have true lasting treasure or are just an illusion that temporarily makes you feel good. (John 8:32) To the Believer: It gives a foundation for our belief, connecting the facts between the origins of Genesis 1 to the destiny of Revelation 22. By examining the details and illustrating the sequences of events, we can see and understand how redemption works, as well as the many benefits available. (Acts 1:8) To the Spiritual Leader: It encourages and challenges us with truth, exposing the Deceivers’ strategy. It gives Biblical insight to the mysteries and questions of life. It helps us to envision our future rewards, reflect on our present position, and take a closer look at our past traditions and assumptions in the light of our ultimate authority, the Word of God. (Romans 16:24-27)

Book excerpt: Is there a book of the Bible more often discussed and yet less understood than the Book of Revelation? The "seven seals." The "dragon." The "beast." The "sea of glass." The fantastic imagery found in the Book of Revelation has long captivated Christians but remains mysterious to many. In the midst of so much discussion about the end times, what does Revelation teach us about living in the present moment, with our eyes focused on the heavenly Jerusalem? Michael Barber's Coming Soon explores these questions by taking a detailed look at Revelation and its rich tapestry of prophecy, history, and biblical allusion. Barber explores the profound link between the Mass celebrated here on earth and the eternal reality of heaven, demonstrating that the Apocalypse reveals truth that has practical implications for today and points to a firm hope in tomorrow. Coming Soon is a verse-by-verse commentary on the Book of Revelation using the Revised Standard Version: Catholic Edition of the Bible. Barber provides a Catholic interpretation, which sees the liturgical background of this book of Scripture-a perspective missing in many Protestant commentaries.

Book excerpt: We live in a visual culture. Today, people increasingly rely upon visuals to help them understand new and difficult concepts. The rise and stunning popularity of the Internet infographic has given us a new way in which to convey data, concepts and ideas. But the visual portrayal of truth is not a novel idea. Indeed, God himself used visuals to teach truth to his people. The tabernacle of the Old Testament was a visual representation of man's distance from God and God's condescension to his people. Each part of the tabernacle was meant to display something of man's treason against God and God's kind response. Likewise, the sacraments of the New Testament are visual representations of man's sin and God's response. Even the cross was both reality and a visual demonstration. As teachers and lovers of sound theology, Challies and Byers have a deep desire to convey the concepts and principles of systematic theology in a fresh, beautiful and informative way. In this book, they have made the deepest truths of the Bible accessible in a way that can be seen and understood by a visual generation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of God's general revelation has in our day aroused agitated and even violent discussions, and the time when Reformed theology could take the distinction between general and special revelation for granted appears to be gone forever, according to the author. Does the distinction between general and special revelation do justice to the unique and "once-for-all" character of the redemptive revelation in Jesus Christ? Does the confession of a general or universal revelation owe its existence to a flight, perhaps unconscious, from the sufficiency and absoluteness of the revelation in Christ? And is Christ to be regarded as but a special illustration of the general revelation of God in the world, a revelation richer and broader than simply that revelation in Christ? These decisive questions, involving as they do the claims of natural theology and the radical character of the history of religion since the nineteenth century, are given here a trenchant and detailed analysis.

Download or read book Godsends written by William Desmond and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Godsends is William Desmond’s newest addition to his masterwork on the borderlines between philosophy and theology. For many years, William Desmond has been patiently constructing a philosophical project—replete with its own terminology, idiom, grammar, dialectic, and its metaxological transformation—in an attempt to reopen certain boundaries: between metaphysics and phenomenology, between philosophy of religion and philosophical theology, between the apocalyptic and the speculative, and between religious passion and systematic reasoning. In Godsends, Desmond’s newest addition to his ambitious masterwork, he presents an original reflection on what he calls the “companioning” of philosophy and religion. Throughout the book, he follows an itinerary that has something of an Augustinian likeness: from the exterior to the interior, from the inferior to the superior. The stations along the way include a grappling with the default atheism prevalent in contemporary intellectual culture; an exploration of the middle space, the metaxu between the finite and the infinite; a dwelling with solitudes as thresholds between selving and the sacred; a meditation on idiot wisdom and transcendence in an East-West perspective; an exploration of the different stresses in the mysticisms of Aurobindo and the Arnhem Mystical Sermons; a dream monologue of autonomy, a suite of Kantian and post-Kantian variations on the story of the prodigal son; a meditation on the beatitudes as exceeding virtue, in light of Aquinas’s understanding; and culminating in an exploration of Godsends as telling us something significant about the surprise of revelation in word, idea, and story. Godsends is written for thoughtful persons and scholars perplexed about the place of religion in our time and hopeful for some illuminating companionship from relevant philosophers. It will also interest students of philosophy and religion, especially philosophical theology and philosophical metaphysics.
