Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive and richly illustrated catalogue focuses on the finest illustrated manuscripts produced in Europe during the great epoch in Flemish illumination. During this aesthetically fertile period – beginning in 1467 with the reign of the Burgundian duke Charles the Bold and ending in 1561 with the death of the artist Simon Bening – the art of book painting was raised to a new level of sophistication. Sharing inspiration with the celebrated panel painters of the time, illuminators achieved astonishing innovations in the handling of color, light, texture, and space, creating a naturalistic style that would dominate tastes throughout Europe for nearly a century. Centering on the notable artists of the period – Simon Marmion, the Vienna Master of Mary of Burgundy, Gerard David, Gerard Horenbout, Bening, and others – the catalogue examines both devotional and secular manuscript illumination within a broad context: the place of illuminators within the visual arts, including artistic exchange between book painters and panel painters; the role of court patronage and the emergence of personal libraries; and the international appeal of the new Flemish illumination style. Contributors to the catalogue include Maryan W. Ainsworth, curator of European paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; independent scholar Catherine Reynolds; and Elizabeth Morrison, assistant curator of manuscripts at the Getty Museum. Illuminating the Renaissance is published in conjunction with an exhibition organized by the Getty Museum, the Royal Academy of Arts, London, and the British Library to be held at the Getty Museum from June 17 to September 7, 2003, and at the Royal Academy of Arts from November 25, 2003 to February 22, 2004.

Book excerpt: In a cosmos where the physical constants of nature are fine tuned to unimaginable precision to permit the existence of life, the giant US/Chinese radio telescope on the far side of the moon detects no technological civilizations. Why? Fantasies of space travel to the stars and cheap limitless energy have, by the mid-21st century, proven to be just that. Fantasies. Upon this stage appears an American Indian woman in the grip of a delusion that her son is Quetzalcoatl, an ancient Meso-American God whom she has pursued in devotion across the centuries. A teacher at the shabby Apache Indian reservation elementary school recognizes the boy as probably the greatest mathematical genius in human history. A shaman senses in the man the reality of myth and fulfillment of ancient prophecy. None comprehend the staggering dimensions of his true destiny. The Light is a psychedelic adventure of a genius who must choose between surrender to delusion, or freedom from superstition and madness to fall in love and live his own life as the greatest particle physicist of his age. In so doing he unleashes forces that give substance to ancient myths and challenge the limits of human imagination.

Book I Thought I Was Doing Well Until

Download or read book I Thought I Was Doing Well Until written by Miah Williams and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I gave the book the title “I thought I was doing well, until...” because, from the age of five years old, that was how I felt until I faced the reality that I was living a lie. My story started on April 28, 1996, when unexpectedly and supernaturally, Jesus appeared to me and touched me! When Jesus said: “Follow me,” I followed Him without any hesitation and converted from Islam to Christianity. The book is a synthesis of my journey of discovering the Trinity, the Godhead. You will walk with me through the steps which my studying of the Bible took me to know God as a Father, the divinity of Jesus as God and Man, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. There was never a dull moment in my journey during which I witnessed how God worked miracles in my life, how He showed me that there is a beauty in brokenness and how took me from a place of despair and hatred to hope and love. One of the significant outcomes of my studies is the shifting of my perspectives from seeing life from my own human finite microscopic lenses to GOD’s infinite telescopic lenses.

Book Illuminating the Narrow Gate

Download or read book Illuminating the Narrow Gate written by Karl R. Luther and published by Peerseen Truth Publishing. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apocalyptic end times have finally arrived. What is coming to an end, though, is not what you have been led to believe. Do you desire the truth about God, our foremost religions, the purpose of life and the future of our planet? Are you ready to challenge the religious powers that be to learn what most would rather not know? If so, this revolutionary book will help you transcend the darkness on your eternal journey home to a God of pure, unconditional love (a God who has no cause or need to ever judge or condemn anybody). Illuminating the Narrow Gate reveals the flaws of the mainstream Western religions as it guides and empowers its readers to embrace an enlightened spirituality. Brimming with astonishing insights and revelations, it will shock the world by debunking the “fire and brimstone” theology of mainstream Christianity. It primarily accomplishes this by unraveling the apocalyptic prophecies of Daniel, the gospels and Revelation in their entirety. In fact, they contain hidden spiritual messages that contradict what has been confidently preached for all these centuries. Like a challenging riddle that cannot be solved, the answer is obvious in hindsight. Only the blinding power of a paradigm can explain how we missed it for so long. The revelations will strike with devastating force because the book first arrives at the same conclusion through more traditional means. It convincingly describes how Jesus had come to uproot Judaism, but the version of Christianity that developed in his wake failed to make the paradigm shift. Erroneous tenets that should have been discarded were instead institutionalized in both theology and authority. The book also blazes a third independent trail to the same destination by showing how this ancient religious tree bore its poisonous fruit in both the Holocaust and the abomination of slavery that fathered the Civil War. Furthermore, the book illuminates the nature of evil and its well-cloaked ways, which is essential for unraveling the prophecies. This wisdom yields a new and astonishing interpretation of the Book of Job that delivers a quantum leap in insight over the prevailing understanding. As the first devout Christian to read this interpretation commented, “It rocked my apple cart to the core.” In addition, it presents an array of scientific evidence for the spiritual realm’s existence that complements its amazing demonstration that long-range prophecy is truly possible. It thus shows the atheistic religion of scientism is also doomed. Meanwhile, the book proves Jesus was the “Anointed One” (Messiah) with a telescoping trio of prophecies (from Daniel) that foretold the onset of his ministry to the reign of the Roman Empire, to its first ten emperors in the 1st century CE and to 27–34 CE. Most Christians will thus either fearfully denounce the book as a satanic assault upon their religion or courageously embrace it as the inevitable completion of the Reformation. The great spiritual awakening will soon be kicking into high gear, which is exactly what the apocalyptic prophecies long ago foretold and the spiritual realm has long been awaiting. As Jesus and a group of angels informed an atheist during his near-death experience in 1985, “The world is at the beginning of a major transformation. It will be a spiritual revolution that will affect every person in the world.” Can you handle the truth? Are you ready to awaken? If so, this world-changing book is at your service. * You only have to purchase Vol. I to get the book’s core insights and revelations. A PDF document of the Endnotes, Bibliography, Index, et al. (published in Vol. II) can be downloaded for free from the book’s website to make Vol. I a self-standing book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illuminating Counsel: How the Least Holy Books of the Hebrew Bible Explore Life’s Most Important Issues is a study of eleven books of the Hebrew Bible, known collectively as the Ketuvim, or “Writings.” Judaism considers these books to be less holy than the other books of the Hebrew Bible. Most people don’t even know the Jewish order of the books of the Hebrew Bible is different than the Christian order. Many people seem to think the Hebrew Bible is antiquated and has little relevance to modern life. Even Christians, who value the Hebrew Bible as “Holy Scripture,” tend to favor the New Testament. Herein it is argued that the least holy books of the Hebrew Bible are life-changing pieces of literature. Their poetry and prose cover virtually every emotion, every behavior, and every aspect of the human condition. They are as relevant to the committed nonreligious as they are to the religious. So, if you want to plunge the depths of literary sublimity; if you want to explore what it means to be human, to struggle with your mortality, to go through death’s dark valley and come out on the other side, to confront your pain and in so doing find healing, then I invite you to read on and discover how the Hebrew Bible illuminates counsel.
