Book excerpt: May 2018: I am happy to report that I am thankful, grateful and rather excited that Ileostomy Top Tips for Women has been accepted into The British Medical Association lending Library. Reaching out to more. Thanks to all at the B.M.A.Updated for 2018 with two new tips, inspired by my twitter followers. Thank you for your support.I have written this guide to assist you in living with your ostomy; be it ileostomy, colostomy, stoma or indeed any other type of ostomy. An ostomy is where a small part of the large or small intestine is pulled out to assist with defecation with a bag attached over and around the ostomy as the large bowl (the colon) or the small intestine (ileum) are not working correctly. The journey to any ostomy is a bumpy one and is sometimes sprung on people who wake from surgery with no idea of what or how to manage life with an ostomy.I was lucky enough to have the choice of an ileostomy or an internal 'J' pouch. I can happily say I choose 'Harry' my (ileostomy). I have lived with Harry for 7 years now as I write this for you in 2018.As you read this, I want you to know I am with you. Now, let's start with what is your ostomy called?-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Nic Gee: "This guide is a must have tips for all new ostomates."Carla Wright : "A funny and realistic outlook on life with a stoma, this book made me feel I could live life to the fullest again."

Her memoir mines the deepest levels of anguish and devotion as she struggles to come to terms with her body’s betrayal and the frightful protocols of contemporary medicine. She finds solace in the abiding love of her husband, children, and friends while she searches for understanding in works of literature, visual art, and the testimonies of others who suffer with various forms of cancer. Ovarian cancer remains an incurable disease for most of those diagnosed, even those lucky enough to find caring and skilled physicians. Memoir of a Debulked Woman is both a polemic against the ineffectual and injurious medical responses to which thousands of women are subjected and a meditation on the gifts of companionship, art, and literature that sustain people in need.
