Book Art on the Cutting Edge

Download or read book Art on the Cutting Edge written by Lea Vergine and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The concept of the beautiful has undergone profound changes during the last half of the twentieth century, as has our way of considering everything that is called art. We need a new key to help us "know how to see" so that we can stay attuned to what is going on in the contemporary world of art where new aesthetic styles are appearing and being challenged one after the other." "This book by Lea Vergine, which discusses seventeen different art movements in separate chapters, offers, within the panorama of contemporary art criticism books, a blend between a handy art-history manual and an assessment of a cultural adventure that has passed through and overturned the parameters of taste of the last forty years. The clear and incisive writing style guides the reader, student or specialist, whatever his or her specific interests and curiosities, like an essential travel kit for understanding today's reality, grasping its raison d'etre, and above all, plunging into its multiple mutations." From the Trade Paperback edition.

Book Jannis Kounellis exhibition Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago October 18 1986 to January 4 1987

Download or read book Jannis Kounellis exhibition Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago October 18 1986 to January 4 1987 written by Jannis Kounellis and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1969, Greek-born Jannis Kounellis famously exhibited 11 live horses at Rome's Galleria l'Attico. Kounellis, who has been living in Rome since the beginning of his career, is a pioneer of the Arte Povera movement, which originated in Italy in the mid-60s and is characterized by antiestablishment media (like street theater) and antielitist materials (like rope, rocks and discarded metal). Kounellis preferred dirt, fire, gold, burlap sacks, smoke and coffee grounds--to name a few of the substances that gradually appeared in his sculptures and installations. In 2002, Kounellis created his masterwork, "Labyrinth," a monumental installation composed of 143 eight-foot-tall vertical iron panels surrounded by a layer of coal. Viewers can walk through to encounter traces of Kounellis' past pieces: burlap sacks, an iron cot, coffee grounds. Like a trip through "Labyrinth," this comprehensive monograph contributes richly to the understanding of Kounellis' influential 40-year career.

Download or read book Modern Etruscans written by Chiara Zampieri and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2023-10-16 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “L’Étrurie est à la mode”, French archaeologist Salomon Reinach bluntly stated in 1927. Since the beginning of the nineteenth century, Etruria had not only been attracting the attention of archaeologists and specialists of all sorts, but it had also been a fascinating and, in some cases, captivating destination for poets, novelists, painters and sculptors from all over Europe. This volume deals with the impact of the constantly expanding knowledge on the Etruscans and their mysterious civilisation on Italian, French, English, and German literature, arts and culture, with particular regard to the modernist period (1890–1950). The volume brings a distinctive point of view to the subject by approaching it from an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective, and by looking at a quite diverse range of topics and artefacts, which includes, but is not limited to, the study of drawings, art works, travel essays, novels, cooking recipes, schoolbooks, photographs, and movies. By exploring a new paradigm to understand ancient cultures, beyond the traditional ideas and models of “reception of the classics”, and by challenging the alleged fracture between the so-called “two cultures” of humanities and natural sciences, Modern Etruscans will be of interest to scholars from various disciplines. Designed as a learning tool for university courses on the interplay between literature and science in the twentieth century, it is suited as recommended reading for students in the humanities.

Book L artista viaggiatore

Download or read book L artista viaggiatore written by Claudio Spadoni and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
