Book Cassetto dei ricordi Memories in a box

Download or read book Cassetto dei ricordi Memories in a box written by Biancamaria Valeri and published by Aletti Editore. This book was released on 2024-06-25 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. (dalla prefazione di Giuseppe Aletti) By reading the poems included in this collection, we will easily witness how important the relationship with the Other is, and how this contact should be longed for and attained sooner or later. This contact is often eased off by rites, traditions, feasts. As I once said: ‘good habits are like those friends you pay visit to, to spend some good time together’. So, I meant Christmas, New Year’s Eve and all those times that allow us to take stock of where we are and where we have gotten. As a matter of fact, in the time that goes by can be found all it takes and all that is part of our life: ambitions, expectations, regrets and new objectives for the next year. Another topic that gains momentum in this collection is wistfulness. When we reach happiness and we can feel at ease with ourselves and our world, this feeling can start to peep out at us. It links our soul with the places where we used to feel good. This feeling can be found in this book so many times, gaining the shape of a beacon that can guide us through the night. Our wistfulness can act as a compass able to guide and show us how to either go away or to get back to the place where we used to live and feel best. All these shades can take on different colors but they all find in love the real and only power able to connect wo(men) with the most intimate part of their soul. All images offered by Valeri are based on this power. Memories in a box is a valuable gift for readers, whom we ask to carefully read her poems, with a feeling of gratitude. (foreword by Giuseppe Aletti)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While most work on Dionysus is based on Greek sources, this collection of essays examines the god’s Roman and Italian manifestations. Nine contributions address Bacchus’ appearance at the crossroads of Greek and Roman cultures, tracing continuities and differences between literary and archaeological sources for the god. The essays offer coverage of Dionysus in Roman art, Italian epigraphy; Latin poetry including epic, drama and elegy; and prose, including historiography, rhetorical and Christian discourse. The introduction offers an overview of the presence of Dionysus in Italy from the archaic to the imperial periods, identifying the main scholarly trends, with treatment of key Dionysian episodes in Roman history and literature. Individual chapters address the reception of Euripides’ Bacchae across Greek and Roman literature from Athens to Byzantium; Dionysus in Roman art of the archaic and Augustan periods; the god’s relationship with Fufluns and Liber in the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE; Dionysian associations; Bacchus in Cicero; Ovid’s Tristia 5.3; Bacchus in the writings of Christian Latin writers. The collection sheds light on a relatively understudied aspect of Dionysus, and will stimulate further research in this area.

Book excerpt: The family book, a kind of diary written by and about the family for its various members, was established by scholars as a genre in Italy in the 1980s. Although initially regarded as an Italian genre, the family book can also be found in other parts of Europe. Nevertheless, the genre can be traced back to Florence, where it first emerged and consequently flourished with the lavish production of such documents. This abundance springs from the social structure of the city, where such texts were essential for establishing and cultivating the basis for the social promotion of Florentine families. This book presents a reconstruction of the evolution and persistency of Tuscan family books, as well as a study of several aspects of social history, including: reading and private libraries, domestic devotion, and the memory of historical events. Starting with the Renaissance, the investigation then broadens to the 17th-18th centuries and considers other forms of memory, such as private diaries and autobiographies. A final section is dedicated to the issue of memory in the egodocuments of early modern Europe. This book was translated by Susan Amanda George.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Works of Giuseppe Verdi is the first critical edition of the composer’s oeuvre. Together with his operas, the series presents his songs, his choral music and sacred pieces, and his string quartet and other instrumental works. This edition of Messa da Requiem is based on Verdi’s autograph score and other original sources. The appendices include two pieces from the compositional history of the Requiem: an early version of the Libera me, composed in 1869 as part of a collaborative work planned as a memorial to Rossini; and the Liber scriptus, which in the original score of the Manzoni memorial Requiem was composed as a fugue for chorus. The introduction to the score traces the complex compositional and performance histories of the Requiem and discusses the work’s problems of instrumentation and notation, while the critical commentary gives a full description of the sources and an account of all editorial decisions.
