Download or read book Time Out Venice written by Editors Out and published by Time Out. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Venice conjures images of gondolas drifting along misty canals and pigeon-feeding visitors dwarfed by the splendor of St. Mark’s. For tourists seeking these typical Venetian icons, this magical city will never disappoint. But for a more rounded experience, the longtime residents and experts who have contributed to Time Out Venice take readers down backstreets and into campi and calli where few tourists tread: to hidden churches with hidden artworks; to architectural and sculptural gems in concealed courtyards; and to districts where the everyday life of Venice goes on in time-honored, washing-festooned, market-haggling fashion. Included is a wealth of practical information on escaping the menu turistico to discover authentic eateries; hiring a gondola and coping with acqua alta; finding budget digs in a city of haute hotels; and traveling beyond the Venetian lagoon to the magnificent cities — Padua, Verona, Vicenza, Treviso — and countryside of the mainland Veneto region.
Download or read book The Great European Stage Directors Volume 6 written by Clare Finburgh Delijani and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-07 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the work of Joan Littlewood, Giorgio Strehler and Roger Planchon, demonstrating how these 3 directors take up key aesthetic prompts from earlier innovators – Stanislavski, the modernist avant-garde and not least Brecht – and thereby prepare the ground for contemporary, politically-engaged 'directors' theatre'. It argues that, in creating their major productions in the prosperous 'glorious decades' that followed the devastation of the Second World War, they represent a first expressly 'European' generation of theatre directors. Revisiting works from the classical dramatic canon by drawing on popular theatre traditions, and reaching out to spectators beyond the educated middle-class elite, they put theatre in the service of uniting a traumatized continent. This study posits that for Littlewood, Strehler and Planchon, theatre has the capacity to create communities.
Download or read book Il palazzo magnifico written by Simonetta Merendoni and published by Allemandi. This book was released on 2009 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
