Il volume, è completato da una sezione documentaria, con brevi descrizioni, in forma di glossario, delle principali tecniche analitiche e diagnostiche non distruttive per lo studio, il restauro e il recupero dell’architettura esistente.

Book excerpt: Sebbene indagato da ricercatori e tecnici da almeno un ventennio, il tema del restauro dell'architettura moderna e contemporanea conserva a tutt'oggi immutata la sua attualità in ambito internazionale. Molto eterogene et sono infatti le posizioni teoriche ed ideologiche rispetto al patrimonio ed all'architettura moderna in ambito internazionale. Spesso contraddette da una pratica operativa troppo frettolosamente orientata verso soluzioni di ripristino dello stato originario, esse oscillano fra la linea dell' unita di metodo, per l'intervento tanto sia sul patrimonio antico che sul moderno, e quella della diversificazione specialistica, giustificata da una serie di caratteristiche e di fattori peculiari di volta attribuiti all'architettura del Novecento. In questo variegato panorama internazionale particolarmente interessante ci è sembrata la posizione francese, caratterizzata da un lungo processo di maturazione attraverso il quale è stata infine predisposta una precisa strategia di tutela e di valorizzazione dell'architettura del XX secolo. L'analisi della pratica del restauro dell'architettura del XX secolo in Francia, nel suo aspetto tecnico e metodologico, constituisce infatti il contributo centrale e originale di questo lavoro, concepito come una dettagliata indagine sul terreno attraverso l'esperienza concreta e attuale di undici cantieri di restauro condotti, fra la line degli anni Novanta e l'anno corrente. L'obiettivo di questo contributo è di fornire il supporto di conoscenze e di elementi indispensabili alla formulazione di considerazioni critiche sulla pratica francese del restauro del patrimonio recente.

Il volume propone un’analisi dedicata ad esperienze condotte in territorio italiano che hanno goduto di grande fortuna critica, tracciando un dialogo a più voci fatto di parole, disegni ed immagini, con l’obiettivo di fornire un contributo utile nel delineare intenzioni e prassi dell’intervento contemporaneo per il costruito. Il progetto di restauro costituisce un progetto unitario d’architettura i cui temi salienti vengono articolati, nella trattazione, secondo un’esposizione tripartita: il progetto, l’architettura come realtà costruita, la divulgazione dei contenuti dell’intervento. Ad emergere è una significativa eterogeneità negli orientamenti di metodo e nelle modalità d’espressione del progetto: da atto che si concretizza con una dichiarata presa di distanza dall’antico, a nuova fase del processo di sedimentazione in continuità con la materia e con le forme del tempo. Ciononostante, la capacità di governare il dettaglio esprime, in ciascun ambito, la possibilità di conservare il manufatto anche attraverso una chiara definizione dell’interfaccia compresa tra nuovo e antico. L’autonomia espressiva dell’architettura contemporanea dedicata alle preesistenze storiche sembra risiedere, infatti, proprio nelle relazioni e nei rapporti sintattici instaurati, a diverse scale, attraverso i contributi che incidono e si interpolano con il destino delle testimonianze materiali del passato. SARA DI RESTA, architetto e dottore in Storia e Conservazione dei Beni Architettonici e Ambientali, è ricercatore di Restauro Architettonico nel DACC Dipartimento di Architettura Costruzione Conservazione dell’Università Iuav di Venezia. Dottore di Ricerca (PhD) in Conservazione dei Beni Architettonici, è autrice di contributi e saggi dedicati ai temi del progetto di architettura per le preesistenze storiche ed alla conservazione delle architetture del XX secolo. È membro della società scientifica SIRA onlus, Società Italiana per il Restauro Architettonico.
