Book IKEA s Globalization Strategies and Its Foray in China

Download or read book IKEA s Globalization Strategies and Its Foray in China written by Senthil Kumar and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The case discusses in length about Sweden- based IKEA's globalization strategies and its foray in the Chinese furniture market. The basic assumption behind IKEA's global strategy was 'one-design-suits-all,' which meant that the company did not adapt to the local markets. The case presents how IKEA was forced to change some of the elements of its global strategy in the culturally diverse Chinese market. It highlights the importance of striking a balance between the implementation of global polices and the need for higher degree of localization for IKEA to be successful in markets like China. The interrelationship between IKEA's culture, structure and strategy and its responsiveness to the needs of local markets are also highlighted.

Book Global Strategies in Retailing

Download or read book Global Strategies in Retailing written by John Dawson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large and medium sized retailers have increased their international operations substantially over the last 25 years. This is evident in: the number of countries to which these retailers expand; the growing international sales of retailers; and the heightening of the level of commitment of retailers to their international activity – a trend that is likely to continue over the next decade as general globalization in the service industries increases. The managerial implications of the moves to become global are considerable. Different retailers are pursuing different approaches, to varying degrees of success and are no longer simply multi-national, but are also multi-continental. Consequently, existing concepts and theories of international business fit uneasily in explanations of international retailing, so new corporate strategies need to be explored. Featuring in-depth studies of seven retailers, by international scholars from Japan, the UK and Sweden, Global Strategies in Retailing explores recent developments in strategy that are related to international retailing and in particular, the emergence of a Global Portfolio Strategy. As such, this book will be important reading for all international business and retailing students and academics researching in these areas.

Book International Business Strategy Ikea s Foreign Expansion Into the Chinese Market

Download or read book International Business Strategy Ikea s Foreign Expansion Into the Chinese Market written by Alex Bremann and published by . This book was released on 2017-10-09 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,7, University of applied sciences, Munich, language: English, abstract: Having only operated in the western culture, the Chinese market was one that IKEA had little to no experience of. Changing dynamics of consumer behavior and strong heterogeneity in terms of customers made it difficult for IKEA's managers to predict future market trends in China. Before entering the Chinese market, IKEA had to consider, high import taxation, complex government regulations, complex consumer buying behaviors, and strong competition. The paper will evaluate IKEA's market entry strategies, routines & firm specific-advantages. Using Verbekes model to identify IKEA's early expansion into foreign markets will give the reader a clearer overview of IKEAs international operations. Looking into the Chinese market with the use of Porters Diamond model, while considering IKEA's various approaches to become successful in such an economically strong market, will give the reader some practical insights of the difficulties that can arise while expanding into foreign markets.

Book It s IKEA s World A Growth Strategy Based on Cost Leadership

Download or read book It s IKEA s World A Growth Strategy Based on Cost Leadership written by Viktoria Klima and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1,3, International School of Management, Hamburg Campus, language: English, abstract: This case study provides information about Ikea’s growth strategy which is based on a cost leadership with high degrees of standardization and only a few local adaptations. Applying growth drivers, marketing mix and internationalization strategy, the case gives profound insights into the company’s success and how it was achieved. Key value of the case involves critical assessment of Ikea’s internationalization and recommendations to maintain growth. Outcome of the study was that Ikea is dependent on certain growth drivers that include company values, prices, product range, places of distribution and advertisement on the internal side of the company and governmental actions, growth of the population, mergers and sustainability on the external side of the company. Ikea’s growth strategy seems to be very successful. Nevertheless, the company has to face several challenges regarding its internationalization process. Through governmental regulations, too superficial market research and different tastes of customers that lead to a necessary adaptation to local circumstances, Ikea needs to avoid being outperformed by its competitors.

Book IKEA Success and Problems of a Swedish Concept

Download or read book IKEA Success and Problems of a Swedish Concept written by Manja Ledderhos and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2003-03-12 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: very good, Mälardalen University (Institution of Economics), course: Strategies and the New Economy, language: English, abstract: 1.1. Background Information IKEA is a well known Swedish company where almost every European person under 30 has purchased something from to decorate their flats. In only a few decades the company “went from the woods of southern Sweden to 31 countries around the world”1 and has become a large Multinational cooperation (MNC) with an interorganisational network.2 Higher tariffs, transport costs and the loss of economies of scale in domestic production further encourage production abroad.3 The Swedish market is comparably small and IKEA had to expand in order to keep their steady growth rates. The success came as a surprise to many since the furniture business is originally a local business.4 IKEA is the only company in their field, that has been able to expand so widely. The company seems to offer something that is unique to people and that appeals to them as something preferable. The background of the company seems to play a role in managing this uniqueness where Swedish influence on leadership, corporate culture and product offer leads towards the successful “IKEA spirit”. While the internationalisation of IKEA is one of the reasons for their great success, it seems that it is also the source of trouble. It seems that today’s “game of global strategy [is] increasingly ... a game of coordination”5. The difficulties that IKEA faces is to keep their unique “IKEA spirit” and still be successful around the world. 1.2. Aim of the Paper The aim of the paper is to look at the sources for IKEAs success where special emphasis will be given to the Swedish impact on leadership, corporate culture and product offer and the success they have with it. Internationalisation puts challenges on the above success areas and those need to be evaluated, as well. 1.3. Delimitations IKEA is a very complex company and I couldn’t concentrate on all of the given information. For example, I did not write about the purchasing network and relationships to suppliers. Also, customer contacts are not dealt with in depth. 1 http://www.IKEA.com/about_IKEA/timeline/splash.asp, (21.02.03). 2 Forgens/Holm/Thilenius (1997). p.477. 3 Buckley/ Casson (1998). p. 555. 4 Grol/Schoch (1998), p.

Book Developing a Successful Subsidiary Strategy

Download or read book Developing a Successful Subsidiary Strategy written by Paul Lyons and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-09-18 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books on business strategy approach the subject from a corporate perspective, covering topics such as the vision for the business, the marketplace, competition and differentiation. However, the reality is that most managers work in sub-units or subsidiaries of the business and they are not involved in corporate strategy formulation. Their strategic concerns are with the positioning and future trajectory of their own units within the complex internal ecosystem in which they exist. If these units are to survive and grow, the middle managers responsible for them must plan their future, maximise their value-add and compete for resources within the internal market of their corporations. Such internal markets are becoming increasingly volatile due to general economic conditions but also given the questioning of globalisation and increasing corporate concerns about the frailties of international supply chains as brought into sharp focus by the COVID-19 crisis and the war in Ukraine. This book provides practical perspectives for these business unit managers and a step-by-step toolkit that can be used by management teams to develop a successful subsidiary strategy that acknowledges these challenges while maximising their contribution to corporate objectives. It is based on the author’s 30 years of experience as an executive in a complex multinational (IBM) organisation, supplemented by academic study at Master’s and PhD levels. The material covered has been verified through workshops over a 3-year period with the senior leadership teams of over 30 multinational subsidiaries operating from Ireland.

Book Good Strategy Bad Strategy

Download or read book Good Strategy Bad Strategy written by Richard Rumelt and published by Currency. This book was released on 2011-07-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good Strategy/Bad Strategy clarifies the muddled thinking underlying too many strategies and provides a clear way to create and implement a powerful action-oriented strategy for the real world. Developing and implementing a strategy is the central task of a leader. A good strategy is a specific and coherent response to—and approach for—overcoming the obstacles to progress. A good strategy works by harnessing and applying power where it will have the greatest effect. Yet, Rumelt shows that there has been a growing and unfortunate tendency to equate Mom-and-apple-pie values, fluffy packages of buzzwords, motivational slogans, and financial goals with “strategy.” In Good Strategy/Bad Strategy, he debunks these elements of “bad strategy” and awakens an understanding of the power of a “good strategy.” He introduces nine sources of power—ranging from using leverage to effectively focusing on growth—that are eye-opening yet pragmatic tools that can easily be put to work on Monday morning, and uses fascinating examples from business, nonprofit, and military affairs to bring its original and pragmatic ideas to life. The detailed examples range from Apple to General Motors, from the two Iraq wars to Afghanistan, from a small local market to Wal-Mart, from Nvidia to Silicon Graphics, from the Getty Trust to the Los Angeles Unified School District, from Cisco Systems to Paccar, and from Global Crossing to the 2007–08 financial crisis. Reflecting an astonishing grasp and integration of economics, finance, technology, history, and the brilliance and foibles of the human character, Good Strategy/Bad Strategy stems from Rumelt’s decades of digging beyond the superficial to address hard questions with honesty and integrity.
