Book Ignition of Metals in Oxygen

Download or read book Ignition of Metals in Oxygen written by E. L. White and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report deals with the ignition of metals in oxygen and oxygen- containing atmospheres. The ignition of metals is reviewed from the viewpoints of (1) methods that have been used to study behavior, (2) experimental values that have been obtained, and (3) the status of theories that permit the calculation of ignition temperatures. A number of experimental methods have been used to determine the ignition temperature of solid metals and alloys in oxygen gas, air, various mixtures of inert gases with oxygen, and liquid oxygen. In addition to the input of energy from heat sources, the effects of electrical- energy input, and various types of mechanical-energy input on the ignition temperature have also been reported. Experimental values of ignition temperature are discussed for alloys of titanium, aluminum, copper, nickel, iron, cobalt, magnesium, tin, and lead; stainless steels, silver and silver solders, and other metals and alloys are also discussed.

Book A Study of Spontaneous Ignition of Metals

Download or read book A Study of Spontaneous Ignition of Metals written by Fred E. Littman and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a study of the reactions occurring in the spontaneous ignition of zirconium and titanium (and their alloys), with emphasis on the former. Conditions required for spontaneous ignition, including the effects of certain impurities, surface conditions, and composition of the atmosphere around the metal were investigated. In addition, the mechanism of ignition was studied by following the thermal history of the reactions during the first few milliseconds.

Book The Oxidation of Metals and Alloys

Download or read book The Oxidation of Metals and Alloys written by Erich Scheil and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews the various types of oxidation processes occurring with pure metals and gives explanations for the varying time-temperature-oxidation rate relations that exist for copper, tungsten, zinc, cadmium, and tantalum. The effect of shape and crystal structure on oxidation is discussed. Principles derived are applied to the oxidation of alloys.

Book Initiation and Flame Propagation in Combustion of Gases and Pyrophoric Metal Nanostructures

Download or read book Initiation and Flame Propagation in Combustion of Gases and Pyrophoric Metal Nanostructures written by Nikolai M. Rubtsov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents new data on combustion processes for practical applications, discussing fire safety issues in the development of flame arresters and the use of noble metals in hydrogen recombiners for nuclear power plants. It establishes the basic principles of production of metal nanostructures, namely nanopowders of metals and compact products made of them, with the preservation of the unique properties of nanoproducts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This newly reissued debut book in the Rutgers University Press Classics Imprint is the story of the search for a rocket propellant which could be trusted to take man into space. This search was a hazardous enterprise carried out by rival labs who worked against the known laws of nature, with no guarantee of success or safety. Acclaimed scientist and sci-fi author John Drury Clark writes with irreverent and eyewitness immediacy about the development of the explosive fuels strong enough to negate the relentless restraints of gravity. The resulting volume is as much a memoir as a work of history, sharing a behind-the-scenes view of an enterprise which eventually took men to the moon, missiles to the planets, and satellites to outer space. A classic work in the history of science, and described as “a good book on rocket stuff…that’s a really fun one” by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, readers will want to get their hands on this influential classic, available for the first time in decades.
