Book Unsteady Effects in Droplet Evaporation and Combustion

Download or read book Unsteady Effects in Droplet Evaporation and Combustion written by Antonio Crespo and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An asymptotic analysis is presented for the problem of droplet vaporization in a stagnant atmosphere taking into account the unsteady effects in the gas phase. The ratio of the densities of the ambient gas and of the liquid is considered as a small parameter. The results of the classical quasi-steady theories are recovered in the first approximation, and corrections due to unsteady effects are obtained for the vaporization rate and for the droplet lifetime. The analysis is entended to cover the cases when the vaporization rate is enhanced by a fast irreversible reaction between the fuel vapor and an oxidizer in the ambient gas. The ratio of flame radius to droplet radius is found in many practical cases to vary significantly with time in agreement with experimental results. (Modified author abstract).

Book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media

Download or read book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media written by L. P. Yarin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion of Two-Phase Reactive Media addresses the complex phenomena involved in the burning of solid and liquid fuels. In fact, the multiplicity of phenomena characteristic of combustion of two-phase media determine the contents. The three parts deal with: the dynamics of a single particle; combustion wave propagation in two-phase reactive media; and thermal regimes of combustion reactors. The book generalizes the results of numerous investigations into the ignition and combustion of solid particles, droplets and bubbles, combustion wave propagation in heterogeneous reactive media, the stability of combustion of two-phase media, as well as the thermal regimes of high-temperature combustion reactors. It merges findings from the authors’ investigations into problems of two-phase flows and material from graduate-level courses they teach at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Book Ignition and Extinction of a Monopropellant Droplet in an Inert Atmosphere

Download or read book Ignition and Extinction of a Monopropellant Droplet in an Inert Atmosphere written by Ashwani K. Kapila and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Response curves of vaporization rate versus Damkohler number are examined in the limit of large activation energy, so as to determine their weak-and strong-decomposition branches. A recipe is given for locating the ignition point at the end of the former, when there is one; and an explicit formula is derived for the extinction or ignition/extinction point at the end of the latter, when there is one.

Book Propulsion Re Entry Physics

Download or read book Propulsion Re Entry Physics written by Michał Lunc and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propulsion Re-Entry Physics deals with the physics of propulsion re-entry and covers topics ranging from inductive magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) propulsion systems to launch systems and orbiting maneuvering systems. Problems of re-entry aerodynamics are considered, along with interaction problems in hypersonic fluid dynamics. Comprised of 31 chapters, this volume begins with a detailed account of the quasi-steady adiabatic vaporization and subsequent exothermic decomposition of a pure monopropellant spherical droplet in the absence of free and forced convection. The discussion then turns to results of calculations on MPD machines working in the intermittent and in the continuous mode; inductive plasma accelerators with electromagnetic standing waves; and spherical rocket motors for space and upper stage propulsion. Subsequent chapters focus on pulsed plasma satellite control systems; drag and stability of various Mars entry configurations; hypersonic laminar boundary layers around slender bodies; and effects of an entry probe gas envelope on experiments concerning planetary atmospheres. This book will appeal to students, practitioners, and research workers interested in propulsion re-entry and the accompanying physics.

Book Rotary Kilns

Download or read book Rotary Kilns written by Akwasi A. Boateng and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2015-11-13 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rotary Kilns—rotating industrial drying ovens—are used for a wide variety of applications including processing raw minerals and feedstocks as well as heat-treating hazardous wastes. They are particularly critical in the manufacture of Portland cement. Their design and operation is critical to their efficient usage, which if done incorrectly can result in improperly treated materials and excessive, high fuel costs. This professional reference book will be the first comprehensive book in many years that treats all engineering aspects of rotary kilns, including a thorough grounding in the thermal and fluid principles involved in their operation, as well as how to properly design an engineering process that uses rotary kilns. This new edition contains an updated CFD section with inclusion of recent case studies and in line with recent developments covers pyrolysis processes, torrefaction of biomass, application of rotary kilns in C02 capture and information on using rotary kilns as incinerators for hydrocarbons. Provides essential information on fluid flow, granular flow, mixing and segregation, and aerodynamics during turbulent mixing and recirculation Gives guidance on which fuels to choose, including options such as natural gas versus coal-fired rotary kilns Covers principles of combustion and flame control, heat transfer and heating and material balances New edition contains information on pyrolysis processes with low temperatures and torrefaction of biomass. It also covers calcination of petcoke, how rotary kilns are used as incinerators for chlorinated hydrocarbons. Includes updated material on CFD simulation of kiln gas and solids flow with a selection of recent case studies.
