Download or read book If You Got the Guts Run Baby Run written by Joan Santoro and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-05-30 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story involves my daring venture to invade into in a mans world as a labor unions leader. It was an enlightening experience as I gained a valuable amount of knowledge from all types of people. Taking over, as head of a labor organization is a huge responsibility and certainly not a position to be taken lightly. Few women have had those experiences or traveled to the areas where I campaigned. The probability of becoming famous was never an issue with me. The enormous responsibilities of settling individual grievances, negotiating various types of labor contracts, attending conventions and seminars keeping abreast of the ever-changing laws, mentioning just a few of the many important factors of the position I challenged. Several well-qualified people on labor issues were ready and willing to work with me. The hurtful traumas that transpired during this era finally disappeared as writing things down. I later realized that it was important therapy to write about my struggles in a book. Of course at this time of my life, I would not be so naive about a lot of things but life constantly teaches us valuable lessons. Life is different now, as women handle mens tough, demanding important positions. Perhaps I was just born too soon. My interest as a concerned people person is still prevalent in my daily endeavors and thankful of the road I took. Id do it all over again despite all the extreme hardships, as I understand the political arena much more than before.

For wealthy Alison James, moving with her family to her hometown of Farmington presents more than a case of relocation jitters. Fifteen years ago, she fled town, eloping with her best friend's boyfriend. Now, blessed with three children, but uneasy in her marriage, she wonders if that decision led her away from the life she was meant to lead. Catherine Ashley, broke, the mother of two and almost divorced, can't help but wonder the same thing. Although she's content with her children, she finds herself returning again and again to those few weeks fifteen years ago when she fell deeply in love, only to be betrayed by her most trusted friend. Now, once more living in the same town, Alison and Catherine are about to find out just how different their lives could still be. But this time around they are adults, and while their own happiness is at stake, so is their children's. Wise and warmhearted, Another Mother's Life will make you laugh and cry -- and think about what you would do when confronted by some of life's most difficult choices.

Called 'a threat to the sport' and 'not woman enough', she found herself at the centre of the debate around the newly drawn line between gender and sport. Throughout the intense speculation, harmful rumours and long legal battle she has remained quiet, letting her running do the talking until she was banned from competing and defending her Olympic title in 2020. Now, Caster is ready to own her story and tell it in full. In this book, Caster speaks openly about growing up in a loving family and community that never regarded her as different, just Caster; of her early years understanding her agency, sexuality and athletic ability; and of her infectious spirit and tenacity to be the best. Told with conviction and humour, The Race To Be Myselfis the story of a life lived in the spotlight, a manifesto for acceptance and change for all. This is the unforgettable story of one of the most recognisable athletes in the world, and of a woman's journey to run free. 'A story that makes us all interrogate our humanity and the world we build with our actions every day.' Trevor Noah

Book excerpt: From the author of the bestseller Eat and Run, a thrilling memoir about his grueling, exhilarating, and immensely inspiring 46-day run to break the speed record for the Appalachian Trail. Scott Jurek is one of the world's best known and most beloved ultrarunners. Renowned for his remarkable endurance and speed, accomplished on a vegan diet, he's finished first in nearly all of ultrarunning's elite events over the course of his career. But after two decades of racing, training, speaking, and touring, Jurek felt an urgent need to discover something new about himself. He embarked on a wholly unique challenge, one that would force him to grow as a person and as an athlete: breaking the speed record for the Appalachian Trail. North is the story of the 2,189-mile journey that nearly shattered him. When he set out in the spring of 2015, Jurek anticipated punishing terrain, forbidding weather, and inevitable injuries. He would have to run nearly 50 miles a day, every day, for almost seven weeks. He knew he would be pushing himself to the limit, that comfort and rest would be in short supply -- but he couldn't have imagined the physical and emotional toll the trip would exact, nor the rewards it would offer. With his wife, Jenny, friends, and the kindness of strangers supporting him, Jurek ran, hiked, and stumbled his way north, one white blaze at a time. A stunning narrative of perseverance and personal transformation, North is a portrait of a man stripped bare on the most demanding and transcendent effort of his life. It will inspire runners and non-runners alike to keep striving for their personal best.
