Book The Toxic War on Masculinity

Download or read book The Toxic War on Masculinity written by Nancy R. Pearcey and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2023-06-27 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Why Can't We Hate Men?" asks a headline in the Washington Post. A trendy hashtag is #KillAllMen. Books are sold titled I Hate Men, The End of Men, and Are Men Necessary? How did the idea arise that masculinity is dangerous and destructive? Bestselling author Nancy Pearcey leads you on a fascinating excursion through American history to discover why the script for masculinity turned toxic--and how to fix it. Pearcey then turns to surprising findings from sociology. Religion is often cast as a cause of domestic abuse. But research shows that authentically committed Christian men test out as the most loving and engaged husbands and fathers. They have the lowest rates of divorce and domestic violence of any group in America. Yes, domestic abuse is an urgent issue, and Pearcey does not mince words in addressing it. But the sociological facts explode the negative stereotypes and show that Christianity has the power to overcome toxic behavior in men and reconcile the sexes--an unexpected finding that has stood up to rigorous empirical testing.

Book Wronged and Dangerous

Download or read book Wronged and Dangerous written by Karen Lee Ashcraft and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2022-10-18 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is populism fueled by a feeling of manhood under attack? If gender is its driving force, are there better ways to respond? COVID-19 delivers a stark warning: the global surge of populism endangers public health. Wronged and Dangerous introduces “viral masculinity” as a novel way to meet that threat by tackling the deep connection of our social and physical worlds. It calls us to ask not what populism says, but how it spreads. Leading with gender without leaving socioeconomic forces behind, it upends prevailing wisdom about populist politics today. You do not need to know or care about gender to get invested. You only need to be concerned with our future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masculinity in America has never been under attack the way it is today. We have reached the point where the term itself is considered toxic or offensive to many. American men are conflicted as to what their role is in society. The consistent message that has proliferated in our nation is that masculinity, by nature, is bad and is the root cause of many of the problems plaguing our society. Everything from racism to pedophilia has been blamed on “toxic masculinity.” Some colleges and universities are now offering classes on how to overcome or be delivered from this very “threatening” phenomenon called “masculinity.” If men take up biblical mandates ordained by their Creator—no matter their color, nationality, station, upbringing, or education—a new vision can be cast and executed that will restore a civil and prosperous America for all.

Book For the Love of Men

Download or read book For the Love of Men written by Liz Plank and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nonfiction investigation into masculinity, For The Love of Men provides actionable steps for how to be a man in the modern world, while also exploring how being a man in the world has evolved. In 2019, traditional masculinity is both rewarded and sanctioned. Men grow up being told that boys don’t cry and dolls are for girls (a newer phenomenon than you might realize—gendered toys came back in vogue as recently as the 80s). They learn they must hide their feelings and anxieties, that their masculinity must constantly be proven. They must be the breadwinners, they must be the romantic pursuers. This hasn’t been good for the culture at large: 99% of school shooters are male; men in fraternities are 300% (!) more likely to commit rape; a woman serving in uniform has a higher likelihood of being assaulted by a fellow soldier than to be killed by enemy fire. In For the Love of Men, Liz offers a smart, insightful, and deeply-researched guide for what we're all going to do about toxic masculinity. For both women looking to guide the men in their lives and men who want to do better and just don’t know how, For the Love of Men will lead the conversation on men's issues in a society where so much is changing, but gender roles have remained strangely stagnant. What are we going to do about men? Liz Plank has the answer. And it has the possibility to change the world for men and women alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Make no mistake, masculinity is in crisis. The modern-day male is lost in a sea of expectations, definitions, roles, and false narratives of which we can never seem to live up. The gap between God's original plan for man and the modern-day definitions of what it means to be a man seems to be widening. Due to this gap, the term "toxic" has been permanently associated with masculinity by our society. Now more than ever, we need God's perspective on manhood. Unapologetically Masculine seeks to redefine toxic masculinity from a biblical perspective and exposes negative male behaviors that are degrading spiritual, family, and societal structures. It also uses the life experiences of the writer to give the reader strategies to obtain and maintain a godly masculine identity.

Book Is Masculinity Toxic The Big Idea Series The Big Idea Series

This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely title weighs masculinity’s capacity for good against its potential for destruction in the context of contemporary debates on the topic. In the wake of the MeToo movement and the upsurge in both feminist and men’s rights activism, traditional masculinity has become the topic of impassioned debate. Is Masculinity Toxic? interrogates the myths surrounding modern manhood, asking whether—and how—we need to change our attitudes toward masculinity in the twenty-first century. Therapist Andrew Smiler addresses the topic of masculinity in four chapters: “Evolving Understandings of Masculinity,” which examines the history of ideas about masculinity, “Male Power to Harm,” which dissects the societal impacts of “toxic” masculinity, including bullying behavior, rape culture, and early male mortality; “Men and Interpersonal Relationships,” discusses how men are encouraged not to express their feelings, the sexual objectification of women, and male attitudes toward fatherhood; and “Changing Face of Masculinity Today,” which details the ways in which masculinity might adapt to the last century’s sweeping changes in gender roles. Is Masculinity Toxic? revisits all sides of the debate, recognizing the positive impact of some of today’s models of masculinity while acknowledging the failures and limitations of others.

Book Christian Masculinity and God s Purpose for Men

Download or read book Christian Masculinity and God s Purpose for Men written by Grady L. Throneberry, Ph.d. and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-12 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The truth is that the spiritual failures of men as a group are manifesting themselves in almost all areas of life. One need only peruse the daily news to realize that nearly all crime – murder, rape, burglary, robbery, child and spouse abuse, and drunk driving, as examples – is committed by men. In numerical terms, it is men who dominate politics and the corporate world where moral collapse and scandals of various types erupt almost daily. Few churches can boast of the attendance and participation of their male members. View the sanctuary of nearly any church in America and it is glaringly apparent that men are outnumbered, sometimes two to one, by women. And sadly, the men who are present in church worship are rarely engaged by what is happening. The church must realign itself or reposition itself if it is going to reach men for Christ. The church of today, in terms of appeal to men, is very much unlike the church founded and nurtured by men – Christ and His disciples. Even though Christ clearly appealed to women and discipled women, the early church drew men to itself. The early church had everything that men needed and still need. Christ himself was the strong and determined leader, and the church movement of the time offered men much of what men need – risk, adventure, challenge, and even conflict. But the church of today seems much less masculine in its direction and determination. The church of today has been called “feminized”, a place of safety and nurturing and predictability. The church of today is a place of hugs and tears and tissues. And while this type of church is good and necessary, there must be an integration of masculinity in the overall programs and functions of the church. The challenge for the contemporary church is how to retain the “warm and fuzzy” feeling, the nurturing and safety, while re-masculinizing itself. How can the church effectively disciple men when men have, for the most part, “checked out”? How can the contemporary church reach men with a sense of adventure and risk-taking, a call to arms, and boldness that is an ever-present component of the male spirit? The church that was founded and nurtured by men must be revitalized by men if it is going to survive and reclaim its role in society and culture. The church, to be effective in spreading the Gospel to the nations, must disciple men to be the husbands, fathers, community and church leaders that they should.
