Download or read book The Return of the Magnificent Five written by Roy D Perkins and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of five talking dogs, all deceased. The story deals with how these five canines raise hell while they are alive by stealing food, wrecking stuff, chasing other animals, and skinny-dipping and then pulling the same shenanigans after they die. Four of the five dogs were abused by humans when they were alive. Now that they are dead, the tides have changed. The dogs are telling the humans what to do. In hell, the dogs become correction officers over the humans. In hell, the dogs come face-to-face with those humans who abused them. It’s bad enough for the humans to be hell’s prisoners; it’s much worse with the dogs being the prison wardens. In heaven, the Almighty assigns the dogs tasks to carry out on earth. They accomplish their tasks without regard to pride, ego, vanity, anger, prejudice, or greed. The dogs can’t be bought or conned by any of the humans they meet during their assignments. They carry out their assignments with total objectivity. The dogs will do anything that the Almighty tells them to do. They know that, during and after their assignments, there are banquets for pigging out, items to wreck, critters to chase, and heated swimming pools. Having immortal bodies, the thrill of being injured, killed, or captured and executed is not there anymore; however, the Almighty sometimes improvises for them. The main characters are five dogs: Runner, a greyhound, the philosopher; Danny, a greyhound, the spiritual leader; Vinney, a whippet, a risk-taking lunatic; Doggie, a treeing walker coonhound and cocker spaniel mix that will chase anything; and Peanut Butter, a puggle, who is naive with four months of college. This is a sequel to The Human World from a Canine Point of View.

Download or read book Dirt The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth written by William Bryant Logan and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2007-01-17 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A gleeful, poetic book…Like the best natural histories, Dirt is a kind of prayer." —Los Angeles Times Book Review "You are about to read a lot about dirt, which no one knows very much about." So begins the cult classic that brings mystery and magic to "that stuff that won't come off your collar." John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Saint Phocas, Darwin, and Virgil parade through this thought-provoking work, taking their place next to the dung beetle, the compost heap, dowsing, historical farming, and the microscopic biota that till the soil. Whether William Bryant Logan is traversing the far reaches of the cosmos or plowing through our planet’s crust, his delightful, elegant, and surprisingly soulful meditations greatly enrich our concept of "dirt," that substance from which we all arise and to which we all must return.

Book excerpt: On Labor Day, 1938, close to Breesvort Castle, the huge and legendary home of the spawling, tumultuous, and quarrelsome Breesvort family, whose forebears tore thousands of acres of the Hudson River Valley away from the Indians in the seventeenth century, a terrible crime takes place. A beautiful young woman is hunted down through the woods by night, slain with a knife, stripped, skinned like a doe, and hung by her heels from the tree like a flayed and butchered animal. Now thirty years later, as the Breesvort family gathers in the wake of a funeral for a family celebration, the unsolved murder continues to haunt them and may indeed be repeated, as the same cast of characters gathers once again.

Download or read book Girl Alone written by Rupa Gulab and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2005-02-21 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Men may come and men may go, but cough syrup goes on forever . . .' Cough-syrup junkie, emotionally insecure intellectual snob (she's an English literature graduate from Calcutta University), faithful advocate of the 'Why me?' brigade, Arti believes that rock bands help her get centred better than shrinks. And that large doses of D.H. Lawrence and Woody Alien dilute the emotional neediness coursing through her veins. In Bombay now, on her domineering mother's orders to get a job or else marry a loser hand-picked from the matrimonial columns, Arti's one objective (apart from bombing her Super-Bitch Boss's office) is to keep alive her unrelenting search for the man with whom she can live happily ever after. But Arti has the unique talent of always falling for the wrong men. And as she stumbles from one disastrous relationship to the next, she realizes the potency of that all-important, universal truth: men only want you when you don't want them any more . . . An irresistible blend of satiric wit, romance (not of the mushy kind) and saucy tips on surviving single in the city, Girl Alone is a rollicking read from start to finish.
Download or read book Infernal Providence written by J. Armand and published by J. Armand. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inevitable has arrived. Civilizations across the globe have begun to collapse under the insurmountable pressure exerted by the invasions from Hell, and there is no going back. All attempts to staunch the hemorrhaging of mortal lives have produced anemic results at best. As populations and resources are depleted in a steady downward spiral, the skeletal remains of governments worldwide close their borders and abandon international aid treaties in favor of riding out the storm alone in their own dark corners. While humanity trembles and death tolls soar, the gods and their supernatural allies continue fighting to stymie the ever-advancing Infernal hordes. Each divinity has staked their claim in certain locations to foster relations with the survivors there, be it a modest abbey or multinational empire. Dorian, the Ascended One, and his Alabaster Order have fought without pause for months to tip the delicate balance of peace and chaos ever so slightly in their favor, but it is Dorian’s champion, Nathaniel, who has made the greatest impact on both sides. Known throughout the world as a bringer of hope to the innocent and a foe to demons rivaling the gods themselves, Nathaniel has thrived under his master’s tutelage. But as the already frenetic pace of demonic invasions accelerates further, no amount of hope or divine might will prepare Earth’s forces for what is about to blow the doors off on its way to total domination.
