Book Theoretical Reaction Cross Sections for Alpha Particles with an Optical Model

Download or read book Theoretical Reaction Cross Sections for Alpha Particles with an Optical Model written by and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transmission coefficients T/sub l/ and total reaction cross sections sigma /sub R/ for alpha particles from 0 to 46 Mev interacting with twenty target nuclei with atomic numbers from 10 to 92 are calculated with optical model program in which a previously determined complex nuclear potential is utilized. The dependence of the T/sub l/ values, and hence of sigma /sub R/, on the Woods- Saxon parameters is investigated as a function of projectile energy. The optical model reaction cross sections are compared with those derived from a square-well potential and a model which approximates the real optical model potential barrier by a parabola and makes use of the Hill-Wheeler penetration formula for a parahelic potential. Book excerpt: This book describes the Proceedings of the International Conference on Nuclear Data for Science and Technology held at Jillich in May 1991. The conference was in a series of application oriented nuclear data conferences organized in the past under the auspices of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Nuclear Data Committee (NEANDC) and with the support of the Nuclear Energy Agency-Committee on Reactor Physics (NEACRP). It was the fIrst international conference on nuclear data held in Germany, with the scientific responsibility entrusted to the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry of the Research Centre Jillich. The scientific programme was established by the International Programme Committee in consultation with the International Advisers, and the NEA and IAEA cooperated in the organization. A total of 328 persons from 37 countries and fIve international organizations participated. The scope of these Proceedings extends to a wide range of interdisciplinary topics dealing with measu rement, calculation, evaluation and application of nuclear data, with a major emphasis on numerical data. Both energy and non-energy related applications are considered and due attention is given to some fundamental aspects relevant to the understanding of nuclear data.

Book Swift Ion Beam Analysis in Nanosciences

Download or read book Swift Ion Beam Analysis in Nanosciences written by Denis Jalabert and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-08-28 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Swift ion beam analysis (IBA) of materials and their surfaces has been widely applied to many fields over the last half century, constantly evolving to meet new requirements and to take advantage of developments in particle detection and data treatment. Today, emerging fields in nanosciences introduce extreme demands to analysis methods at the nanoscale. This book addresses how analysis with swift ion beams is rising to meet such needs. Aimed at early stage researchers and established researchers wishing to understand how IBA can contribute to their analytical requirements in nanosciences, the basics of the interactions of charged particles with matter, as well as the operation of the relevant equipment, are first presented. Many recent examples from nanoscience research are then explored in which the specific analytical capabilities of IBA are emphasized, together with the place of IBA alongside the wealth of other analytical methods.

Book Measurement of Cross Sections for Alpha induced Reactions on 197Au and Thick target Yields for the alpha gamma Process on 64Zn and 63Cu

Download or read book Measurement of Cross Sections for Alpha induced Reactions on 197Au and Thick target Yields for the alpha gamma Process on 64Zn and 63Cu written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have measured the cross sections for the 197Au([alpha], [gamma])2°1Tl and 197Au([alpha],2n)199Tl reactions in the 17.9- to 23.9-MeV energy range, and 197Au([alpha], n)2°°Tl reaction in the 13.4- to 23.9-MeV energy range using an activation technique. Thick-target yields for the 64Zn([alpha], [gamma])68Ge (7- to 14-MeV) and 63Cu([alpha], [gamma])67Ga (7-MeV) reactions were measured. For all measurements, natural elements were bombarded with He beams from the 88'' Cyclotron at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Irradiated samples were counted using a g-spectrometry system at LBNL's Low Background Facility. Measured 197Au([alpha], [gamma])2°1Tl cross-sections were compared with the NON-SMOKER theoretical values. The thick-target yields for the 64Zn([alpha], [gamma])68Ge and 63Cu([alpha], [gamma])67Ga reactions are also compared with the theoretical yield, calculated numerically using the energy dependent NON-SMOKER cross section data. In both cases, measured values are found to follow a trend of overlapping the predicted value near the alpha nucleus barrier height and fall below with a slowly widening difference between them in the sub barrier energy points.

Book Cross Sections for the Reaction alpha alpha He He

Download or read book Cross Sections for the Reaction alpha alpha He He written by Jonathan M. Fetter and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of cross sections for the reaction Îł(Îł,^3He)^5He at an incident energy of 118.0 MeV. This provides a sensitive test of the theory of unbound stripping reactions, since the standard approximations are constructed for heavy-ion reactions. Preliminary predictions are found to be lower than the measurement by factors of two at lower angles, and by factors of up to 8.5 at angles near 90℗ʻ. Work continues on refining the predictions; newer predictions are greater than the measurement roughly by factors of two at low angles.

Book Atomic Defects in Metals Atomare Fehlstellen in Metallen

Download or read book Atomic Defects in Metals Atomare Fehlstellen in Metallen written by H. Ullmaier and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991-09-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atomic or point defects are disturbances of the periodicity of the crystal lattice extending over only a few atomic distances. Many physical and mechanical properties of solids are sensitive to their presence. Furthermore other defects which are crucial to material behaviour are influenced by their interaction with atomic defects. A detailed knowledge of production mechanisms and properties of point defects is therefore essential for assessing and for understanding the atomistic as well as the macroscopic behaviour of materials. As a result of the use of new research methods in recent years, such information is now available for almost all pure metals, for many dilute alloys and for some concentrated alloys. However, a critical and comprehensive collection of these data has so far been missing. The aim of the present volume is to close this gap by sifting, evaluating and compiling data on vacancies and self-interstitial atoms in solid metals. A chapter on the element helium is included because of the exeptional position of He as an "alloying" element and its role in radiation damage phenomena.
