Book Power and Authority in Internet Governance

Download or read book Power and Authority in Internet Governance written by Blayne Haggart and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-14 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power and Authority in Internet Governance investigates the hotly contested role of the state in today's digital society. The book asks: Is the state "back" in internet regulation? If so, what forms are state involvement taking, and with what consequences for the future? The volume includes case studies from across the world and addresses a wide range of issues regarding internet infrastructure, data and content. The book pushes the debate beyond a simplistic dichotomy between liberalism and authoritarianism in order to consider also greater state involvement based on values of democracy and human rights. Seeing internet governance as a complex arena where power is contested among diverse non-state and state actors across local, national, regional and global scales, the book offers a critical and nuanced discussion of how the internet is governed – and how it should be governed. Power and Authority in Internet Governance provides an important resource for researchers across international relations, global governance, science and technology studies and law as well as policymakers and analysts concerned with regulating the global internet.

Book The Thermohaline Finestructure of the Ocean

Download or read book The Thermohaline Finestructure of the Ocean written by K. N. Fedorov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Thermohaline Finestructure of the Ocean is a five-chapter text that describes the fine-scale stratification phenomenon in the ocean and the physical processes that participate in its formation and govern its evolution. After an introduction to the concept of thermohaline finestructure of the ocean, this book goes on presenting some methodological aspects in connection with the finestructure measurements in the ocean. The next chapters examine the complex interrelations between the fine-scale stratification of the ocean water. The remaining chapters explore several important physical processes, such as molecular diffusion, convection, turbulence, internal gravity waves, inertial motions, and mean currents. This book is written for physical oceanographers and specialists in other related branches of research.

Book Small Scale Turbulence and Mixing in the Ocean

Download or read book Small Scale Turbulence and Mixing in the Ocean written by J.C.J. Nihoul and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1988-05-01 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 19th International Liège Colloquium on Ocean Hydrodynamics, the programme of which focused on the relationships between small-scale mixing and large-scale features, transports and processes. The presentation of papers on various methods of parameterization of small-scale turbulent mixing for numerical ocean models was particularly encouraged and this resulted in more than a third of the papers presented at the Colloquium dealing in one way or another with the parameterization problems; many of these papers demonstrate the direct results of modelling. These proportions are well reflected in this volume of proceedings and thus emphasize once more the importance of small-scale turbulence research for such vital practical applications as ocean modelling and forecasting.

Book Convection in Rotating Fluids

Download or read book Convection in Rotating Fluids written by B.M. Boubnov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spatial inhomogeneity of heating of fluids in the gravity field is the cause of all motions in nature: in the atmosphere and the oceans on Earth, in astrophysical and planetary objects. All natural objects rotate and convective motions in rotating fluids are of interest in many geophysical and astrophysical phenomena. In many industrial applications, too (crystal growth, semiconductor manufacturing), heating and rotation are the main mechanisms defining the structure and quality of the material. Depending on the geometry of the systems and the mutual orientation of temperature and gravity field, a variety of phenomena will arise in rotating fluids, such as regular and oscillating waves, intensive solitary vortices and regular vortex grids, interacting vortices and turbulent mixing. In this book the authors elucidate the physical essence of these phenomena, determining and classifying flow regimes in the space of similarity numbers. The theoretical and computational results are presented only when the results help to explain basic qualitative motion characteristics. The book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in fluid mechanics, meteorology, oceanography and astrophysics, crystallography, heat and mass transfer.

Book The Near Surface Layer of the Ocean

Download or read book The Near Surface Layer of the Ocean written by Konstantin Nikolaevich Fedorov and published by VSP. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats the structure and variability of basic physical fields in a thin near-surface layer which responds quickly to all short-term and local fluctuations of atmospheric forcing and of radiative solar energy flux. The book contains up-to-date information on different phenomena and processes in this layer based on research conducted over the last ten years. The following topics are treated in detail: basic types of vertical thermal structure of near-surface layers; anomalous phenomena on the ocean surface; thermal and haline boundary layers, its structures and relations to convection; diurnal thermocline and cycle nature of related processes; effects of precipitation on near-surface salinity and thermal structure; peculiarities of near-surface ocean currents; coherent (organized) forms of non-stationary currents (mushroom currents or vortex dipoles, transversal jets in coastal upwellings, vortices and jets in marginal ice zones); some aspects of effectiveness of remote sensing of the ocean by aerospace technique.
