This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 1036 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The comprehensive guide for large turbo-generator operation and maintenance The Handbook of Large Turbo-Generator Operation and Maintenance is an expanded 3rd edition of the authors’ second edition of the same book. This updated revision covers additional topics on generators and provides more depth on existing topics. It is the ultimate resource for operators and inspectors of large utility and industrial generating facilities who deal with multiple units of disparate size, origin, and vintage. The book is also an excellent learning tool for students, consulting and design engineers. It offers the complete scope of information regarding operation and maintenance of all types of turbine-driven generators found in the world. Based on the authors' ver eighty combined years of generating station and design work experience, the information presented in the book is designed to inform the reader about actual machine operational problems and failure modes that occur in generating stations and other types of facilities. Readers will find very detailed coverage of: Design and construction of generators and auxiliary systems Generator operation and control, including interaction with the grid Monitoring, diagnostics, and protection of turbo-generators Inspection practices for the stator, rotor, and auxiliary systems Maintenance testing, including electrical and non-destructive examination Ideas on maintenance strategies and life cycle management Additional topics on uprating of generators and long term storage are also included The Handbook of Large Turbo-Generator Operation and Maintenance comes packed with photos and graphs, commonly used inspection forms, and extensive references for each topic. It is an indispensable reference for anyone involved in the design, construction, operation, protection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of large generators in generating stations and industrial power facilities.

Book Power System Restoration

Download or read book Power System Restoration written by M. M. Adibi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-06-22 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "At a time when bulk power systems operate close to their design limits, the restructuring of the electric power industry has created vulnerability to potential blackouts. Prompt and effective power system restoration is essential for the minimization of downtime and costs to the utility and its customers, which mount rapidly after a system blackout. Power System Restoration meets the complex challenges that arise from the dynamic capabilities of new technology in areas such as large-scale system analysis, communication and control, data management, artificial intelligence, and allied disciplines. It provides an up-to-date description of the restoration methodologies and implementation strategies practiced internationally. The book opens with a general overview of the restoration process and then covers: * Techniques used in restoration planning and training * Knowledge-based systems as operational aids in restoration * Issues associated with hydro and thermal power plants * High and extra-high voltage transmission systems * Restoration of distribution systems Power System Restoration is essential reading for all power system planners and operating engineers in the power industry. It is also a valuable reference for researchers, practicing power engineers, and engineering students." Sponsored by: IEEE Power Engineering Society

Book Transformer Design Principles Third Edition

Download or read book Transformer Design Principles Third Edition written by Robert Del Vecchio and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the newest edition, the reader will learn the basics of transformer design, starting from fundamental principles and ending with advanced model simulations. The electrical, mechanical, and thermal considerations that go into the design of a transformer are discussed with useful design formulas, which are used to ensure that the transformer will operate without overheating and survive various stressful events, such as a lightning strike or a short circuit event. This new edition includes a section on how to correct the linear impedance boundary method for non-linear materials and a simpler method to calculate temperatures and flows in windings with directed flow cooling, using graph theory. It also includes a chapter on optimization with practical suggestions on achieving the lowest cost design with constraints.

Book Geomagnetically Induced Currents from the Sun to the Power Grid

Download or read book Geomagnetically Induced Currents from the Sun to the Power Grid written by Jennifer L. Gannon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to geomagnetic storms and the hazards they pose at the Earth’s surface Geomagnetic storms are a type of space weather event that can create Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) which, once they reach Earth’s surface, can interfere with power grids and transport infrastructure. Understanding the characteristics and impacts of GICs requires scientific insights from solar physics, magnetospheric physics, aeronomy, and ionospheric physics, as well as geophysics and power engineering. Geomagnetically Induced Currents from the Sun to the Power Grid is a practical introduction for researchers and practitioners that provides tools and techniques from across these disciplines. Volume highlights include: Analysis of causes of geomagnetic storms that create GICs Data and methods used to analyze and forecast GIC hazard GIC impacts on the infrastructure of the bulk power system Analysis techniques used in different areas of GIC research New methods to validate and predict GICs in transmission systems

Book Sixty Years Of Double Beta Decay From Nuclear Physics To Beyond Standard Model

Download or read book Sixty Years Of Double Beta Decay From Nuclear Physics To Beyond Standard Model written by Hans Volker Klapdor-kleingrothaus and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-04-30 with total page 1313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear double beta decay is one of the most promising tools for probing beyond-the-standard-model physics on beyond-accelerator energy scales. It is already now probing the TeV scale, on which new physics should manifest itself according to theoretical expectations. Only in the early 1980s was it known that double beta decay yields information on the Majorana mass of the exchanged neutrino. At present, the sharpest bound for the electron neutrino mass arises from this process. It is only in the last 10 years that the much more far-reaching potential of double beta decay has been discovered. Today, the potential of double beta decay includes a broad range of topics that are equally relevant to particle physics and astrophysics, such as masses of heavy neutrinos, of sneutrinos, as SUSY models, compositeness, leptoquarks, left-right symmetric models, and tests of Lorentz symmetry and equivalence principle in the neutrino sector. Double beta decay has become indispensable nowadays for solving the problem of the neutrino mass spectrum and the structure of the neutrino mass matrix — together with present and future solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillation experiments. Some future double beta experiments (like GENIUS) will be capable to be simultaneously neutrino observatories for double beta decay and low-energy solar neutrinos, and observatories for cold dark matter of ultimate sensitivity. This invaluable book outlines the development of double beta research from its beginnings until its most recent achievements, and also presents the outlook for its highly exciting future.
