Book Identity Formation and Leadership Training for Members in the Salvation Army Churches

Download or read book Identity Formation and Leadership Training for Members in the Salvation Army Churches written by Peter Kim and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this project is to establish the identity of The Salvation Army and to demonstarate its strategy through their Leadership Training Program. The study focuses on the strategic process for the establishment of The Salvation Army's view on salvation. This project is also intended to analyze and evaluate the current situation of The Salvation Army Grace Church based on responses from interviews on the Leadership Training Program. These interviews were conducted and examined, focusing on The Salvation Army's view on salvation. The leadership Training Program for this project was successfully managed and directed to train small group leaders who would obtain the qualities of servant leadership as shepherds in order to devote themselves to build the identity of The Salvation Army. Finally, the results of this study suggest that those who participated in the Leadership Training Program have achieved a great stock of knowledge about church and society, the doctrine of The Salvation Army, the concept of The Salvation Army, The Salvation Army’s view on salvation, and the biblical and theological understanding of salvation. The writer found that the small group leaders who participated in the Leadership Training Program were very satisfied with the program and were happy to be the members of The Salvation Army Grace Church.

Book Leadership in The Salvation Army

Download or read book Leadership in The Salvation Army written by Harold Hill and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2006-10-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Leadership in The Salvation Army' is a review and analysis of Salvation Army history, focused on the process of clericalisation. The Army provides a case study of the way in which renewal movements in the church institutionalise. Their leadership roles, initially merely functional and based on the principle of the 'priesthood of all believers', begin to assume greater status. the adoption of the term 'ordination' for the commissioning of The Salvation Army's officers in 1978, a hundred years after its founding, illustrates this tendency. The Salvation Army's ecclesiology has been essentially pragmatic and has developed in comparative isolation from the wider church, perhaps with a greater role being played by sociological processes than by theological reflection in its development. The Army continues to exhibit a tension between its theology, which supports equality of status, and its military structure, which works against equality, and both schools of thought flourish within its ranks.

Book Rites of Ordination and Commitment in the Churches of the Nordic Countries

Download or read book Rites of Ordination and Commitment in the Churches of the Nordic Countries written by Hans Raun Iversen and published by Museum Tusculanum Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique situation exists in the Nordic countries where there is a Lutheran majority living in ecumenical cooperation with other churches and ecclesiastical communities. This book attempts to shed light on what the churches have discovered they hold in common and on areas where they recognise that there are divergencies between them, both in relation to ordination and ministry, and in particular to the theology and terminology of ordination. The book brings together the research and insights of 23 researchers from all the Nordic countries studying more than 200 different kinds of 'ordination' rites from the Orthodox and Roman Catholic as well as Lutheran and non-Lutheran protestant traditions. After an introduction to the churches in the Nordic countries, the book presents 19 case studies from the Nordic countries. The last part includes some general ecumenical and liturgical perspectives on ordination and rites presented by international researchers.

Download or read book Lutheran Salvationists written by Gudrun Maria Lydholm and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of a state religion is seldom connected to religious freedom and liberal, modern, and democratic states. However, such a situation existed in Norway until 2012, when the Lutheran Church was the state church of Norway. A large majority of the population belonged to the church, even though the percentage in 2013 had fallen to well over seventy-five. The relationship between the church and minority religious movements demanded adaptation and compromises from the minority churches. The Salvation Army's enculturation and accommodation during its 128-year history in Norway illustrates such a situation. The book examines how The Salvation Army accommodated itself both doctrinally as well as practically to the situation of a dominant state church. The study reveals such a close affiliation of Salvationists to the Norwegian Church as a state institution, that it raises the question of whether a concept of civil religion was implicitly present in Salvationists' view of the state church and their own adherence to the church. This situation also raises the question of what constitutes a real church. The book indicates the tension between Lutheran and Salvationist ecclesiology as well as the influence from the Lutheran Church.

Book Biblical Principles for the Retention of Officers in the Salvation Army Southern Africa

Download or read book Biblical Principles for the Retention of Officers in the Salvation Army Southern Africa written by Marieke Venter and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is an investigation into the sustainability of Salvation Army officership as a lifelong career. An empirical study based on questionnaires and interviews, was conducted to identify the pressure points, which are experienced by former and active officers of the Salvation Army in Southern Africa. The top twelve pressure points were identified in both categories. A Biblical survey was conducted to discover principles of leadership based on Old and New Testament leaders, as well as the leadership model of Jesus. This was followed by a literature study on Christian leadership, revealing some common tests for leadership and the problem of power in the context of the church. The literature study also reveals the distinctive structure of Salvation Army leadership, and traces the process of how this came about. Finally, the study proposes Biblical guidelines for prevention strategies and counselling for helping of officers in the Salvation Army in Southern Africa to deal with each of the pressure points identified in the survey. It also outlines Biblical guidelines for spiritual formation as part of formal training of the Salvation Army officer, mentorship as an ongoing tool of life, and stress management at different levels--from summary.

Book The Elephant in the Boardroom

Download or read book The Elephant in the Boardroom written by Carolyn Weese and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One way or another, every church will eventually lose its pastor or minister, yet few congregations prepare for this dramatic event. The pastor's departure evokes a range of reactions and problems--sorrow and grief, uncertainty, loss of mission and momentum, power struggles--yet no one wants to talk about this elephant in the church boardroom. Carolyn Weese and J. Russell Crabtree--experts in the field of church leadership--have written a nuts-and-bolts guide to developing a succession plan for smooth pastoral transitions. Filled with strategies and solid advice, this handy resource is based in solid research and the authors' many years of experience working with churches in a wide variety of denominations. Weese and Crabtree clearly show that leadership succession should be part of every church's planning process. Using assessment tools and quizzes, the book walks church leaders through the process of identifying their particular church's culture type and creating a succession plan that will meet their congregation's needs. Firmly rooted in biblical principles and the best management thinking, The Elephant in the Boardroom puts the focus on health, asset building, and resiliency. Its many examples from real-life situations and solid explanations offer elders, deacons, board members, and other lay leaders a how-to manual for planning, preparing, and executing a leadership transition.
