Book Europe Space for Transcultural Existence

Download or read book Europe Space for Transcultural Existence written by Martin Tamcke and published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen. This book was released on 2013 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Europe - Space for Transcultural Existence? is the first volume of the new series, Studies in Euroculture, published by Göttingen University Press. The series derives its name from the Erasmus Mundus Master of Excellence Euroculture: Europe in the Wider World, a two year programme offered by a consortium of eight European universities in collaboration with four partner universities outside Europe. This master highlights regional, national and supranational dimensions of the European democratic development; mobility, migration and inter-, multi- and transculturality. The impact of culture is understood as an element of political and social development within Europe. The articles published here explore the field of Euroculture in its different elements: it includes topics such as cosmopolitanism, cultural memory and traumatic past(s), colonial heritage, democratization and Europeanization as well as the concept of (European) identity in various disciplinary contexts such as law and the social sciences. In which way have Europeanization and Globalization influenced life in Europe more specifically? To what extent have people in Europe turned 'transcultural'? The 'trans' is understood as indicator of an overlapping mix of cultures that does not allow for the construction of sharp differentiations. It is explored in topics such as (im)migration and integration, as well as cultural products and lifestyle. The present economic crisis and debt crisis have led, as side-result, to a public attack on the open, cosmopolitan outlook of Europe. The values of the multicultural and civil society and the idea of a people's Europe have become debatable. This volume offers food for thought and critical reflection.

Book Economic and Social Perspectives on European Migration

Download or read book Economic and Social Perspectives on European Migration written by Francesca Fauri and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses a wide range of migration-related issues in the European context and examines the socioeconomic consequences of migratory flows throughout Europe, focusing on a number of emblematic European countries. The book is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the tension between migrants and their integration processes in the receiving country, which is deeply influenced by the attitude of the local population and the different approach to highly and less skilled immigrants. The second part analyses the impact of migration on the economic structure of the receiving country, while the third part explores the varying degree of immigrants’ socioeconomic integration in the country of destination. The book offers an essential interdisciplinary contribution to the issue of migration and provides readers with a better understanding of the effects that different forms of migration have had and will continue to exert on economic and social change in host countries. It also examines migration policy issues and builds on historical and empirical case studies with policy recommendations on labour market, integration and welfare policy issues. The book is addressed to a wide audience, including researchers, academics and students of economics, sociology, politics and history, as well as government/EU officials working on migration topics.

Book La dimension sociale du droit international priv

Download or read book La dimension sociale du droit international priv written by A. Bucher and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-04-25 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Politics of Multilingualism

Download or read book The Politics of Multilingualism written by Peter A. Kraus and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a multidisciplinary assessment of the impact of complex diversity on language politics and policies, analysing how the legacies of the old interact with the challenges of the new. Its main focus is on the interplay of multilingualism on the one hand, and the dynamics of transnationalism, globalisation, and Europeanisation on the other. This interplay confronts contemporary societies with unprecedented questions, as they face the need to come to grips with increasingly varied and pervasive manifestations of linguistic and cultural diversity. This volume develops an integrative approach that identifies the key social and political dimensions at hand, offering an innovative contribution to the ongoing conversation on the manifestations and management of multilingualism.

Book The Languages of Politics La politique et ses langages Volume 1

This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Languages of Politics/La politique et ses langages provides a multifaceted view of major approaches to the study of political discourse from an interdisciplinary perspective. To date, most contributions to the analysis of political discourse have come from the fields of rhetoric, (critical) discourse analysis, cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, lexicology, lexicography, and, more recently, multimodal discourse analysis. The papers in this volume build their investigations on these perspectives, and provide new and diversified insights into this vast area of research. Besides considering multiple approaches, the book also adds to the current debate on the languages of politics by combining a range of theoretical and methodological considerations, and by featuring contributions in both English and French.

  • Author : Antonio Lo Faro
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2000-04-01
  • ISBN : 1847310818
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Regulating Social Europe written by Antonio Lo Faro and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2000-04-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A large part of the legal debate about European social integration has been focussed on social dialogue, and in particular on the role of European collective agreements, as formerly regulated by the Maastricht Agreement on Social Policy, but now incorporated into the Amsterdam Treaty. In this volume, an attempt is made to conceptualise the function of European collective bargaining, based on an analysis of the Treaty provisions specifically dealing collective bargaining, but going beyond the Treaty in several respects. Taking an inter-disciplinary approach, the book seeks to broaden the analysis of European collective bargaining, placing it within the broader institutional context of the phenomenon usually referred to as "EC regulatory deficit". Against this background the author gives proper recognition to the different factors - legal, theoretical, institutional, political and industrial-relations oriented - which converge in the field of European collective bargaining. The author concludes that in the overall context of a general redefinition of Community regulatory strategies, European collective bargaining should be viewed not as evidence of an incomplete supranational legal pluralism but rather as a construction of Community law.
