Book Validation of Numerical Simulations by Digital Scanning of 3D Sheet Metal Objects

Download or read book Validation of Numerical Simulations by Digital Scanning of 3D Sheet Metal Objects written by Samir Lemeš and published by Univerza v Ljubljani, Fakulteta za strojništvo. This book was released on 2010-06-23 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Validation is the subjective process that determines the accuracy with which the mathematical model describes the actual physical phenomenon. This research was conducted in order to validate the use of finite element analysis for springback compensation in 3D scanning of sheet metal objects. The measurement uncertainty analysis was used to compare the digitized 3D model of deformed sheet metal product with the 3D model obtained by simulated deformation. The influence factors onto 3D scanning and numerical simulation processes are identified and analysed. It is shown that major contribution to measurement uncertainty comes from scanning method and deviations of parts due to manufacturing technology. The analysis results showed that numerical methods, such as finite element method, can successfully be used in computer aided quality control and automated inspection of manufactured parts.

Book Material Forming Processes

Download or read book Material Forming Processes written by Bouchaib Radi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturing industries strive to improve the quality and reliability of their products, while simultaneously reducing production costs. To do this, modernized work tools must be produced; this will enable a reduction in the duration of the product development cycle, optimization of product development procedures, and ultimately improvement in the productivity of design and manufacturing phases. Numerical simulations of forming processes are used to this end, and in this book various methods and models for forming processes (including stamping, hydroforming and additive manufacturing) are presented. The theoretical and numerical advances of these processes involving large deformation mechanics on the basis of large transformations are explored, in addition to the various techniques for optimization and calculation of reliability. The advances and techniques within this book will be of interest to professional engineers in the automotive, aerospace, defence and other industries, as well as graduates and undergraduates in these fields.

Book Risk Surprises and Black Swans

Download or read book Risk Surprises and Black Swans written by Terje Aven and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-08-13 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Risk, Surprises and Black Swans provides an in depth analysis of the risk concept with a focus on the critical link to knowledge; and the lack of knowledge, that risk and probability judgements are based on. Based on technical scientific research, this book presents a new perspective to help you understand how to assess and manage surprising, extreme events, known as ‘Black Swans’. This approach looks beyond the traditional probability-based principles to offer a broader insight into the important aspects of uncertain events and in doing so explores the ways to manage them. This book recognises the fundamental issues surrounding risk assessment and risk management to help you to understand and prepare for black swan events. Complete with international examples to illustrate ideas and concepts Integrates risk management and resilience based thinking Suitable for a variety of applications including engineering, finance and security.

Book Mechanics of Sheet Metal Forming

Download or read book Mechanics of Sheet Metal Forming written by D. Koistinen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-10-12 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume records the proceedings of an international symposium on "ME CHANICS OF SHEET METAL FORMING: Material Behavior and Deformation Analysis." It was sponsored and held at the General Motors Research Labora tories on October 17-18, 1977. This symposium was the twenty-first in an annual series. The objective of this symposium was to discuss the research frontiers in experimental and theoretical methods of sheet metal forming analysis and, also, to determine directions of future research to advance technology that would be useful in metal stamping plants. Metal deformation analyses which provide guide lines for metal flanging are already in use. Moreover, recent advances in computer techniques for solving plastic flow equations and in measurements of material parameters are leading to dynamic models of many stamping operations. These models would accurately predict the stresses and strains in the sheet as a function of punch travel. They would provide the engineer with the knowledge he needs to improve die designs. The symposium papers were organized into five sessions: the state of the art, constitutive relations of sheet metal, role of friction, sheet metal formability, and deformation analysis of stamping operations. We believe this volume not only summarizes the various viewpoints at the time of the symposium, but also pro vides an outlook for materials and mechanics research in the future.

Book Engineered in Japan

Download or read book Engineered in Japan written by Jeffrey K. Liker and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1995 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineered in Japan presents a unique and comprehensive examination of technology management in the most successful Japanese companies: unique in that all chapters go beyond superficial descriptions of stylized practices to look in depth at particular issues, often contradicting or qualifying the conventional wisdom; comprehensive in that it covers the entire technology life cycle from basic R&D, to development engineering, to manufacturing processes, to learning from the Japanese. Each chapter is based on original research by noted scholars in the field, and identifies technology management practices that have become a major source of competitive advantage for highly successful Japanese companies. Engineered in Japan documents the best practices from such companies as Toyota, Hitachi, Toshiba, and Nippondenso, and discusses how these technology management practices can be usefully adopted in other cultural contexts. Going beyond past observations, the authors all delve below the surface of Japanese management approaches. They look more closely than has been done before at how particular methods are applied, and they identify some new practices that have not yet been highlighted in books on Japanese methods. Presenting recent data that contradict some conventional thinking about U.S.-Japanese differences, they look at old techniques from a new perspective. "U.S. managers can perhaps learn more from the process of creation in Japan and the organizational structures that support innovation," say the editors in their introduction, "than from the particular approaches, tools, and technologies created." A running theme throughout the book is that Japanese managers and engineers tend to think in terms of systems, focusing not just on the parts but on the connections between them. Engineered in Japan is must reading for technology managers and engineers, along with anyone interested in Japanese business, engineering, and management.
