Book Identification of Pathogenic Social Media Accounts

Download or read book Identification of Pathogenic Social Media Accounts written by Hamidreza Alvari and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sheds light on the challenges facing social media in combating malicious accounts, and aims to introduce current practices to address the challenges. It further provides an in-depth investigation regarding characteristics of “Pathogenic Social Media (PSM),”by focusing on how they differ from other social bots (e.g., trolls, sybils and cyborgs) and normal users as well as how PSMs communicate to achieve their malicious goals. This book leverages sophisticated data mining and machine learning techniques for early identification of PSMs, using the relevant information produced by these bad actors. It also presents proactive intelligence with a multidisciplinary approach that combines machine learning, data mining, causality analysis and social network analysis, providing defenders with the ability to detect these actors that are more likely to form malicious campaigns and spread harmful disinformation. Over the past years, social media has played a major role in massive dissemination of misinformation online. Political events and public opinion on the Web have been allegedly manipulated by several forms of accounts including “Pathogenic Social Media (PSM)” accounts (e.g., ISIS supporters and fake news writers). PSMs are key users in spreading misinformation on social media - in viral proportions. Early identification of PSMs is thus of utmost importance for social media authorities in an effort toward stopping their propaganda. The burden falls to automatic approaches that can identify these accounts shortly after they began their harmful activities. Researchers and advanced-level students studying and working in cybersecurity, data mining, machine learning, social network analysis and sociology will find this book useful. Practitioners of proactive cyber threat intelligence and social media authorities will also find this book interesting and insightful, as it presents an important and emerging type of threat intelligence facing social media and the general public.

Book Detection of pathogenic infections in neurological disorders through recycling of gene expression data

Download or read book Detection of pathogenic infections in neurological disorders through recycling of gene expression data written by Anna-Maria Liebhoff and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-06-21 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For increasing the knowledge about small RNA an online platform was built in this thesis, homogenizing the analysis of sequencing data from over 4,000 samples collected in different laboratories worldwide from various organisms. Consequentially, tissue and disease specific biomarkers were detected and evidence was found for bacterial and viral infections of the sequenced tissues. This motivated the development of an algorithm for analyzing non-host RNA sequencing reads for detecting pathogenic abundance in the host. Focusing on neurological diseases, bacterial presence is suggested in brains of dementia patients. The platform and the algorithm can help scientists to add important leads to their own studies.

Book Detection characterization and management of plant pathogens

Download or read book Detection characterization and management of plant pathogens written by Islam Hamim and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-02-20 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant pathogens cause significant economic losses and endanger agricultural sustainability. The emergence of new plant diseases is caused primarily by international trade, climate change, and pathogens' ability to evolve quickly. Rapid and accurate identification of plant pathogens is critical for disease management. The diversity and distribution of plant pathogens, on the other hand, can significantly impede disease management and diagnostic efforts. Plant pathogens employ a number of strategies that result in diversity, transmission, and host adaptation. Plant pathogens have been observed interacting with a wide range of host species such as plants, endophytes, insects, pollinators, and other plant pathogens. However, the transmission and evolution of plant pathogens in hosts, as well as the impact of pathogens on different hosts, are often unknown.

Book Studies on the Social Construction of Identity and Authenticity

Download or read book Studies on the Social Construction of Identity and Authenticity written by J. Patrick Williams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-03 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As identity and authenticity discourses increasingly saturate everyday life, so too have these concepts spread across the humanities and social sciences literatures. Many scholars may be interested in identity and authenticity but lack knowledge of paradigmatic or disciplinary approaches to these concepts. This volume offers readers insight into social constructionist approaches to identity and authenticity. It focuses on the processes of identification and authentication, rather than on subjective experiences of selfhood. There are no attempts to settle what authentic identities are. On the contrary, contributors demonstrate that neither identities nor their authenticity have a single or fixed meaning. Chapters provide exemplars of contemporary research on identity and authenticity, with significant diversity among them in terms of the identities, cultural milieu, geographic settings, disciplinary traditions, and methodological approaches considered. Contributors introduce readers to a number of established and emerging identity groups from sites around the world, from yogis and punks to fire dancers and social media influencers. Their conceptual work stretches from the micro-analytic to the ethno-national as authors employ a variety of qualitative methods including ethnographic fieldwork, interviewing, and the collection and analysis of naturally-occurring interactions. Several of the chapters look directly at identification and authentication while others focus on the social and cultural backdrops that structure these practices – what unites them is the adoption of social constructionist sensibilities. This book will appeal to anyone interested in understanding identity and authenticity.

Book Health Security Intelligence

Download or read book Health Security Intelligence written by Michael S. Goodman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-19 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health Security Intelligence introduces readers to the world of health security, to threats like COVID-19, and to the many other incarnations of global health security threats and their implications for intelligence and national security. Disease outbreaks like COVID-19 have not historically been considered a national security matter. While disease outbreaks among troops have always been a concern, it was the potential that arose in the first half of the twentieth century to systematically design biological weapons and to develop these at an industrial scale, that initially drew the attention of security, defence and intelligence communities to biology and medical science. This book charts the evolution of public health and biosecurity threats from those early days, tracing how perceptions of these threats have expanded from deliberately introduced disease outbreaks to also incorporate natural disease outbreaks, the unintended consequences of research, laboratory accidents, and the convergence of emerging technologies. This spectrum of threats has led to an expansion of the stakeholders, tools and sources involved in intelligence gathering and threat assessments. This edited volume is a landmark in efforts to develop a multidisciplinary, empirically informed, and policy-relevant approach to intelligence-academia engagement in global health security that serves both the intelligence community and scholars from a broad range of disciplines. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal, Intelligence and National Security.
