Book Identification of Common Aspergillus Species

Download or read book Identification of Common Aspergillus Species written by Maren A. Klich and published by Centraalbureau Voor Schimmelcultures. This book was released on 2002 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This useful new book provides a morphologically based system for the identification of the more common Aspergillus species as well as several uncommon species, which the author has included to demonstrate the breadth of variability in the genus. The species descriptions are based on new information obtained by recording morphological observations on approximately five isolates of each species. These data was combined with previously published information to create a comprehensive species description. Species descriptions are arranged alphabetically by species name and include colony diameters, colony colors and textures, microscopic characteristics, distinguishing features, taxonomic references, habitats, and, where applicable, common synonyms and major mycotoxins. On the page opposite each species description are photos of the colonies, conidial heads, conidia, and other distinctive features. Scanning electron micrographs are included to give a more three dimensional view of the conidia. -- Morphologically based system for the identification of Aspergillus species -- Over 270 photographs and electron micrographs -- Comprehensive descriptions based on new information obtained by recording morphological observations and previously published information

Book Identification of Pathogenic Fungi

Download or read book Identification of Pathogenic Fungi written by Colin K. Campbell and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-25 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first edition of Identification of Pathogenic Fungi, there has been incredible progress in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of fungal diseases: new methods of diagnosis have been introduced, and new antifungal agents have been licensed for use. However, these developments have been offset by the emergence of resistance to several classes of drugs, and an increase in infections caused by fungi with innate resistance to one or more classes. Identification of Pathogenic Fungi, Second Edition, assists in the identification of over 100 of the most significant organisms of medical importance. Each chapter is arranged so that the descriptions for similar organisms may be found on adjacent pages. Differential diagnosis details are given for each organism on the basis of both colonial appearance and microscopic characteristics for the organisms described. In this fully updated second edition, a new chapter on the identification of fungi in histopathological sections and smears has been added, while colour illustrations of cultures and microscopic structures have been included, and high quality, four colour digital images are incorporated throughout.

Book Aspergillosis from diagnosis to prevention

Download or read book Aspergillosis from diagnosis to prevention written by Alessandro Comarú Pasqualotto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-03-03 with total page 1027 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aspergillosis is an infection or allergic response caused by the fungus Aspergillus. Aspergillus conidia are widely dispersed in the environment and can easily reach human lungs and/or paranasal sinuses: most people inhale Aspergillosis spores every day! The label Aspergillosis is used for several diverse clinical conditions. For instance, invasive Aspergillosis typically affects severely immunocompromised patients such as those with prolonged neutropenia or receiving therapy with steroids. On the other hand, allergic forms of Aspergillosis cause exuberant clinical syndromes that mostly affect patients with asthma and cystic fibrosis. Slowly destructive lung diseases may also occur in the apparently immunocompentent host, especially in the context of previous damage to the lung architecture. These are difficult-to-diagnose infections, and diagnostic tests perform differently depending on the specific scenario. This book summarizes the current knowledge about Aspergillosis, covering: Epidemiology Pathogenesis Clinical manifestations Diagnosis Treatment Prevention Written by internationally respected authors, the information presented in this book adds for a better understanding of Aspergillosis by providing a comprehensive and clear overview of all aspects associated with this complex disease.

Book Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis

Download or read book Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis written by Gauri Mankekar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Incidence of invasive fungal sinusitis has been increasing over the years. The understanding of its pathophysiology has improved with newer serological tests and diagnostic methods helping in earlier diagnosis and reducing patient morbidity. It was believed earlier that invasive fungal sinusitis is seen only in immune compromised patients but clinical reports suggest otherwise. More anti-fungal drugs are being added to improve incidence of patient survival. This book aims to compile all practical information about invasive fungal sinusitis into a single volume. Therefore, busy clinicians would not have to perform exhaustive literature studies to diagnose invasive fungal sinusitis. The book aims to provide an overview of diseases which could be mistaken for invasive fungal sinusitis and discuss how the management is different. Book sections consist of clinical, microbiological, serological, pathological, radiological and pharmacological features of the disease and its management. Each section is important in today’s context as it dynamically alters the management of the patient. Early clinical suspicion and rapid microbiological, pathological and radiological diagnosis with aggressive treatment with surgical debridement and medical therapy leads to favorable outcomes.
