Book excerpt: *This is a true tale of bombs, guns, lawyers, patriots, philosophers, revolutionaries, and scholars. It concerns a little known part of the history of India's long struggle for independence. *A large Victorian house stands in a residential street in the north London suburb of Highgate. Between 1905 and 1910, it was known as ?India House?, and was a meeting place and hostel for Indian students, many of whom wished to help liberate India from centuries of British domination. *In the 19th and 20th centuries before India's independence, many young Indians came to England to be educated. This is the story of a few of them, who came to Britain in the early 20th century, and then risked sacrificing their freedom, prospects, and lives by becoming involved in India's freedom struggle. *This book describes the true adventurous exploits of members of Highgate's India House (including VD Savarkar, Madan Lal Dhingra, and VVS Aiyar) and its history.

This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an easy reading biography of the amazing life of Scott J. Harden and how he survived being shot at as a child because his mother was one of the first female union presidents, and again later in life in a second attempt against him by a mad woman. It tells of his living in the forest in a Girl Scout camp as a child, then later living with people like the president of a European country, then becoming a merchant marine officer sailing in the oceans, dropping bombs from helicopters on secret targets, and helping the communist empire to fall. All these are part of his biography and life. He also built the first US satellites that went into space, and he secretly put his autographs inside so they would be there two thousand years later for someone to see and wonder about when the first US spacecraft will finally fall to Earth.

Book Bombs Bullets and Bread

Download or read book Bombs Bullets and Bread written by Michael Kemp and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2018-08-23 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a wave of political violence swept across the globe, causing widespread alarm. Described by the media of the day as “propaganda of the deed,” assassinations, bombings and assaults carried out by anarchists—both individuals and conspirators—were intended to incite revolution and established the precedents of modern terrorism. Much has been written about these actions and the responses to them yet little attention has been given to the actors themselves. Drawing on wide range of sources, the author profiles numerous insurgents, their deeds and their motives.

Book Bombs Bullets and Politicians

Download or read book Bombs Bullets and Politicians written by Christophe Chowanietz and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the weeks following the 9/11 attacks, the mainstream political elite in Washington, DC acquiesced to every major decision taken by George W. Bush's administration while partisan politics in Congress ceased. As a nation and its representatives rallied around their leader, the diversity of opinions and the role of political opposition seemed suddenly less vital. A similar unity materialized in the aftermath of the attacks on Charlie Hebdo in January 2015, as millions marched across Paris and the "Marseillaise" resonated throughout France. Emphasizing France's distinctive struggle against terrorism between 1980 and 2016, Bombs, Bullets and Politicians presents a comparative analysis of how political elites react to terrorist attacks in five western democratic states. Demonstrating that the magnitude and frequency of terrorist acts determines whether political elites rally around the flag or rail against the government, Christophe Chowanietz formulates hypotheses on the likely impact of various patterns of terrorist actions. He first tests these hypotheses quantitatively in relation to an existing database of incidents, and then qualitatively in the effects that terrorist attacks have had in France. Shedding light on the difference in reactions between mainstream, radical, right-wing, and left-wing parties, Chowanietz argues that terrorism never fails to disrupt the political game. In an age when the news is dominated by terrorist threats and debates on what to do about them, Bombs, Bullets, and Politicians offers a pertinent analysis of the relationship between terrorism and the conduct of the West’s party politics.

Book Bombs Bullets and the Border

Download or read book Bombs Bullets and the Border written by Patrick Mulroe and published by Irish Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bombs, Bullets and the Border examines Irish Government Security Policy and the role played by the Gardaí and Irish Army along the Northern Irish border during some of the worst years of the Troubles. Mulroe knits together an impressive range of sources to delve into the murky world occupied by paramilitaries and those policing the border. The ways in which security forces under Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael governments secretly cooperated with the British Army and the RUC, exacerbating tensions with republican groups in the border counties, are meticulously examined. Mulroe also reveals the devastating consequences of this approach, which left a loyalist threat unheeded and the 26 counties open to attack. The findings of the Smithwick Tribunal and the upheaval of Brexit have kept the issue of Irish border security within the public eye, but without a complete awareness of its consequences. Bombs, Bullets and the Border is vital reading in understanding what a secure border entails, and how it affects the lives of those living within its hinterland.

Book Bombs Bullshit and Bullets Roughly in That Order

Download or read book Bombs Bullshit and Bullets Roughly in That Order written by Peter Richards and published by New Generation Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'As the explosions drew nearer, the customary shit was flying all over the place with a vengeance, and I was hugging that piece of Eterville ground with more fervour than I ever hugged a woman. Sheer willpower was pushing me towards the Earth's centre. Surely the sixth shell had now been expended? But no, the final bomb of the salvo found a target: my right leg.' With an uncommon frankness and sense of humour, Peter Richards recalls his early experiences of the London Blitz, his unremitting military training and action in the battle for Normandy, and finally his convalescence in hospital following the serious injury in Eterville - a small town near the strategic centre of Caen - that ended his military career. He arrived home just in time to enjoy the victory celebrations, and participate in the historic general election of 1945. His journey is one of both personal and political development, which sees him turn from a young man with little understanding of politics into a fully-fledged member of the Communist Party and later the Labour Party, combining anecdotes of his life with reflection upon the complex politics of the conflict. Above all, this is an account that is modest, poignant and thankful, both for the author's own luck in having lived to see peacetime and for the sacrifice of those who did not.

Download or read book Brown Bag Lessons written by Don Alexander and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2012 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brown Bag Lessons, The Magic of Bullet Writing centers on effective bullet writing and guarantees immediate improvement. Skillful writing doesn't have to be difficult. No other book approaches writing the way this book does, and no other book teaches these techniques. After reading this book, you will fully understand how to write strong bullets and "why" every word matters. In 2003 the author created a seminar to teach a fair and consistent process to evaluate recognition packages. This seminar transformed an entire organization within six months. Since then, the techniques have decisively transformed the writing, recognition, and promotions of every organization applying them. The practices in this book continue to positively impact the Air Force and sister services through professional military education. In addition, the concepts have helped transitioning service members and college students better communicate acquired capabilities and competencies on their résumés. Read on to discover the "magic" and open your eyes to a brand new way to look at writing. The US Air Force promotion system emphasizes the importance of documenting your very best accomplishments. Under this system, promotion comes from the most recent performance reports, so Airmen must communicate the best accomplishments and not just words that fill the white space. This Magic of Bullet Writing will ensure you know how to articulate not just what you are doing but also convey your strongest competencies and capabilities so the promotion board can fully assess your readiness for promotion. Training materials that correspond to the lessons in this book are available for free download at http: //www.brownbaglessons.com. Are you ready for the magic?
