Book Enhancing Professional Practice

Download or read book Enhancing Professional Practice written by Charlotte Danielson and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2007-02-08 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The framework for teaching is a research-based set of components of instruction that are grounded in a constructivist view of learning and teaching. The framework may be used for many purposes, but its full value is realized as the foundation for professional conversations among practitioners as they seek to enhance their skill in the complex task of teaching. The framework may be used as the foundation of a school's or district's recruitment and hiring, mentoring, coaching, professional development, and teacher evaluation processes, thus linking all those activities together and helping teachers become more thoughtful practitioners. The actions teachers can take to improve student learning are clearly identified and fall under four domains of teaching responsibility: Planning and Preparation, the School Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities. Within the domains are 22 components and 76 descriptive elements that further refine our understanding of what teaching is all about. The framework defines four levels of performance (Unsatisfactory, Basic, Proficient, and Distinguished) for each element, providing a valuable tool that all teachers can use. This second edition has been revised and updated and also includes frameworks for school specialists, such as school nurses, counselors, library and media specialists, and instructional coaches. Comprehensive, clear, and applicable to teaching across the K-12 spectrum, the framework for teaching described in this book is based on the PRAXIS III: Classroom Performance Assessment criteria developed by Educational Testing Service and is compatible with INTASC standards.

Book excerpt: Chroniclers have deemed the University of Idaho "The Beacon for Mountain and Plain" and "This Crested Hill"--both are apt monikers for Idaho's land grant and comprehensive research university. For over 125 years, the University of Idaho has served the people of Idaho, the nation, and the world. Among the institution's more than 100,000 graduates are US senators, members of Congress, and Idaho governors; Olympic gold medalists, professional athletes, and coaches; the country's first Native American astronaut; writers, journalists, and filmmakers; educators; and business and community leaders. Extension offices in 42 of 44 counties and three regional centers bring the University of Idaho to every corner of the state; the institution's economic impact tops $1 billion per year. As the state's first university, the University of Idaho looks to a bright future of serving students and contributing to economic and social progress for Idaho and beyond. This book commemorates the proud heritage and innovative spirit of students, faculty, and staff who have shaped the history of the University of Idaho, featuring images from the library's extensive Special Collections and Archives department.

Book Exploring Idaho Through Project Based Learning

Download or read book Exploring Idaho Through Project Based Learning written by Carole Marsh and published by Gallopade International. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Idaho through Project-Based Leaning includes 50 well-thought-out projects designed for grades 3-5. In assigning your students projects that dig into IdahoÕs geography, history, government, economy, current events, and famous people, you will deepen their appreciation and understanding of Idaho while simultaneously improving their analytical skills and ability to recognize patterns and big-picture themes. Project-based learning today is much different than the craft-heavy classroom activities popular in the past. Inquiry, planning, research, collaboration, and analysis are key components of project-based learning activities today. However, that doesnÕt mean creativity, individual expression, and fun are out. They definitely arenÕt! Each project is designed to help students gain important knowledge and skills that are derived from standards and key concepts at the heart of academic subject areas. Students are asked to analyze and solve problems, to gather and interpret data, to develop and evaluate solutions, to support their answers with evidence, to think critically in a sustained way, and to use their newfound knowledge to formulate new questions worthy of exploring. While some projects are more complex and take longer than others, they all are set up in the same structure. Each begins with the central project-driving questions, proceeds through research and supportive questions, has the student choose a presentation option, and ends with a broader-view inquiry. Rubrics for reflection and assessments are included, too. This consistent framework will make it easier for you assign projects and for your students to follow along and consistently meet expectations. Encourage your students to take charge of their projects as much as possible. As a teacher, you can act as a facilitator and guide. The projects are structured such that students can often work through the process on their own or through cooperation with their classmates. Book Return on Postsecondary Education Investment

Download or read book Return on Postsecondary Education Investment written by Jeri S. Midgley and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this ex-post facto quantitative study was to evaluate the benefits of professional technical postsecondary education in Idaho. Human capital theory formed the basis of understanding the importance of acquiring education beyond high school, both for the individual and society. Interactions between entry earnings and cost of attending college determined the return on investment (ROI) of a college education, which compared an applied associates degree and baccalaureate degree within seven occupational areas ( N =175). Relationships between credits earned in postsecondary schools and entry wages were assessed (N =248). Data were gathered from the Division of Professional Technical Education of Idaho, individual colleges and universities in Idaho, and the Idaho Department of Labor. Descriptive data were presented from Kruskal-Wallis tests, conducted to investigate the relationships between area of interest and degree and wages. Similarly, the relationships between ROI, field of study, and entry wages were sought. In addition, a regression analysis was performed to determine if an accurate prediction could be made on entry wages based on credits earned. The research demonstrated when comparing only entry wages for baccalaureate degrees and applied associates degrees, all fields showed a higher wage for baccalaureate degrees. When considering the tuition costs, all seven industries illustrated higher return on investment for applied associate degrees over baccalaureate degrees. This study provides statistical information for the Division of Professional Technical Education, the Idaho Department of Labor, and future postsecondary students in Idaho.
