Book Ian McKeever Against Architecture

Download or read book Ian McKeever Against Architecture written by Ian McKeever and published by . This book was released on 2024-05-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: British artist Ian McKeever has been working on the international stage for more than five decades. This, his latest publication, documents Against Architecture - an exhibition that had its first incarnation, curated by Robin Klassnik, at Matt's Gallery, London (5 February to 19 March 2017) before being reconceived and presented as Against Architecture, Remodelled at TheGallery, Arts University Bournemouth (3 November 2023 to 18 January 2024), curated by Violet M McClean as part of TheGallery's twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations. McKeever was made an AUB Honorary Fellow in 2002 and launched TheGallery's text + work program in 2004. The exhibition was McKeever's first foray into installation art, seeking to explore the relationships between his photo/painted panels and the physical spaces in which they are presented. For this, along with a team of helpers and student volunteers, he built a structure with 3 x 2-inch stud walling timbers and sheets of plasterboard comprising myriad walls, passageways, openings, ledges, and platforms, challenging the conventional white cube gallery space and bringing the viewer's body into heightened dialogue with both their surroundings and the artworks. The works, a series of the acclaimed artist's abstract paintings combined with ostensibly abstract photographs, pose formal and theoretical questions about perception, visual languages and modes of representation--ideas explored in an essay by Berlin-based English arts writer Mark Prince. The publication features numerous other text contributions: an introduction by Professor Paul Gough, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, AUB; Sue Hubbard, poet, novelist, and art critic; Violet M McClean, Curator at TheGallery, AUB; photography graduate Eliza Naden; interior architecture and design graduate Milly Louise Harvey; Associate Professor Dominic Shepherd, AUB; and Ian McKeever himself. Along with illustrations of the artist's past exhibitions and examples of his works of art, special attention is given to documentation of both iterations of the Against Architecture exhibition, including newly commissioned photographs of Against Architecture, Remodelled at TheGallery by Eliza Naden. The publication, which has been edited by Violet M McClean and Millie Lake, and designed by Warin Wareesangtip, has been produced in an edition of 1000 copies.

Book excerpt: imprint #1 is dedicated to Ian McKeever and provides a rare opportunity to be fully immersed in the dynamic first two decades of a long and distinguished career, and a fascinating prism through which to view the years that followed; the continuous evolution of structure, scale, and intent, with an unwavering engagement and purpose. The dialectical method of Ian McKeever is examined in depth, along with the wider context of contemporary art made during this period: the relationship between early conceptual art of the 60's and 70's, modernism and post-modernism, refracted by the long history of traditional British Landscape Art; the role of landscape as a pretext for a process, rather than as subject or object, and the tension between the differing modes of representation and material qualities of photography, painting and drawing.

Book Philosophy and the Visual Arts

Download or read book Philosophy and the Visual Arts written by Andrew Harrison and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of papers given to the Royal Institute of Philos ophy Conference on 'Philosophy and the Visual Arts: Seeing and Abstracting' given at the University of Bristol in September 1985. The contributors here come about equally from the disciplines of Philosophy and Art History and for that reason the Conference was hosted jointly by the Bristol University Departments of Philosophy and History of Art. Other conferences sponsored by the Royal Institute of Philosophy have been concerned with links between Philosophy and related disciplines, but here, with the generous support of South West Arts and with the enthusiastic co-operation of the staff of the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol we were able to attempt even more in the way of bridge building; not only were we able to hold some of our meetings in as possible to the general the Gallery, thus making them as accessible public, but we were also privileged in having our discussions supported by two exhibitions of contemporary painting that together presented contrasting aspects of the abstracting enterprise. One, featuring works by Ian McKeever, and drawings and painting by Frank Auerbach, some of which are discussed and illustrated in the present volume, was about the painterly exploration of 'abstracting from' images in nature and in painting itself. The other, curated by Waldemar Januszczak, while showing some figurative works, was concerned with the 'pure' power of colour perceived 'abstractly, in its own right.

Book excerpt: When you find yourself in the constant commotion of our world, wouldnt it be nice to reach back to the "simple" of life? What could be simpler than to love and be loved? If this appeals to you, it is because you are an integral part of a large, growing movement toward a revival of love. This is not the wrenching, candy-hearts love, but a first love of who we are and why we came here to be. Our lives are so very full and yet, at the end of the day, at the end of a goal, or at the end of a rope, we innately desire to retrace and feel a different fullness, the fullness of love. Fusing inspiration with beautiful, moving and colorful words, Patricia McKeever takes us on a Revival of Love, and reminds us of the original intent of our existence, to love.

Book Theory of Thermoluminescence and Related Phenomena

Download or read book Theory of Thermoluminescence and Related Phenomena written by Reuven Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the authors give an up-to-date account of thermoluminescence (TL) and other thermally stimulated phenomena. Although most recent experimental results of TL in different materials are described in some detail, the main emphasis in the present book is on general processes, and the approach is more theoretical. Thus the details of the possible processes which can take place during the excitation of the sample, and during its heating, are carefully analysed. The methods for analysing TL glow curves are critically discussed, and recommendations as to their application are made. Also discussed is the expected behavior of these phenomena as functions of the experimental parameters, for example, dose of excitation. The consequences of the main applications of TL (for example, radiation dosimetry) are also discussed in detail as are the similarities and dissimilarities of other thermally stimulated phenomena, and the simultaneous measurements of the latter and TL.

Book PhotographyDigitalPainting

  • Author : Carl Robinson
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2020-08-11
  • ISBN : 1527557960
  • Pages : 250 pages

Download or read book PhotographyDigitalPainting written by Carl Robinson and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-11 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology explores the connections between photography, the digital, and painting in contemporary art practices. While there is much research being undertaken into the mediums under discussion as discrete concerns in the digital age, there is little investigation into these in combination. As photography, the digital, and painting frame the contemporary visual discourse, a rigorous investigation into this relationship is much needed. This book, which continues the investigations begun with PaintingDigitalPhotography, undertakes this by leading the research into questions of medium-fluidity in contemporary visual art practices. The contributors here are renowned artists, senior academics, theorists, and younger researches contributing to the field of study. Their essays address a wide range of interrelated topics, including AI generation of digital imagery, hyperreal photographic visions of the world, the embodied experience of the painter, and art practice that synthesises the three mediums, amongst others. This book will be of particular interest to scholars, academics, and researchers studying the associations of these mediums in the digital age.
