Book excerpt: The study of maintenance related events reported to the IAEA/OECD/NEA Incident Reporting System database between January 20006 and September 2008 have been conducted by the European Clearinghouse on Nuclear Power Plant Operational Experience Feedback. 60 reports among the 211 reports were identified as maintenance related by using the guide words and the search tool of the IRS database, and the information available in the reports. The causes of maintenance related events and their impact on nuclear safety were analysed. Particular attention was focused on the impact of external staff on event occurrence, and the availability and use of operational experience feedback. This paper presents the main insights arising from the detailed analysis. Lessons learned and recommendations regarding NPP maintenance, and the main conclusions derived from the analysis are introduced.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Reporting System for Operating Experience (IRS) is an essential element of the international operating experience feedback system for nuclear power plants. Its fundamental objective is to contribute to improving safety of commercial nuclear power plants which are operated worldwide. IRS reports contain information on events of safety significance with important lessons learned which assist in reducing recurrence of events at other plants. This sixth publication, covering the period 2012 - 2014, follows the structure of the previous editions. It highlights important lessons based on a review of the approximately 240 event reports received from the participating countries over this period.

Book Nuclear Law

    Book Details:
  • Author : International Atomic Energy Agency
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2022
  • ISBN : 9462654956
  • Pages : 333 pages

Download or read book Nuclear Law written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book traces the journey of nuclear law: its origins, how it has developed, where it is now, and where it is headed. As a discipline, this highly specialized body of law makes it possible for us to benefit from the life-saving applications of nuclear science and technology, including diagnosing cancer as well as avoiding and mitigating the effects of climate change. This book seeks to give readers a glimpse into the future of nuclear law, science and technology. It intends to provoke thought and discussion about how we can maximize the benefits and minimize the risks inherent in nuclear science and technology. This compilation of essays presents a global view in discipline as well as in geography. The book is aimed at representatives of governments -- including regulators, policymakers and lawmakers -- as well representatives of international organizations and the legal and insurance sectors. It will be of interest to all those keen to better understand the role of law in enabling the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technology around the world. The contributions in this book are written by leading experts, including the IAEA's Director General, and discuss the four branches of nuclear law -- safety, security, safeguards and nuclear liability -- and the interaction of nuclear law with other fields of national and international law.

Book Operating Experience Feedback for Nuclear Installations

Download or read book Operating Experience Feedback for Nuclear Installations written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A robust operating experience programme prevents or minimizes the risk of future events by learning from events that have already occurred. This Safety Guide provides recommendations for establishing, implementing, assessing and continuously improving an operating experience programme for nuclear installations. The publication is primarily aimed at operating organizations and regulatory bodies responsible for nuclear installation and describes their roles and responsibilities in the overall operating experience programme. However, this publication is also of relevance to other organizations involved in the design, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of nuclear installations, including technical support organizations, vendor companies, research establishments and universities.

Book Managing Counterfeit and Fraudulent Items in the Nuclear Industry

Download or read book Managing Counterfeit and Fraudulent Items in the Nuclear Industry written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Counterfeit and fraudulent items (CFls) are of increasing concern in the nuclear industry and generally throughout the industrial and commercial supply chains. Experience has shown that a lack of control of the processes involved in the sourcing, receipt, use and/or disposal of items can lead to the introduction of counterfeit or fraudulent items into a nuclear facility. This publication is designed to assist Member State organizations to prevent, detect and address CFIs on an ongoing basis. It provides users with recognized good practices for the introduction of a programme to effectively manage CFIs in the nuclear industry.

Book Nuclear Fuel Cycle Simulation System VISTA

Download or read book Nuclear Fuel Cycle Simulation System VISTA written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Simulation System (VISTA) is a simulation system which estimates long term nuclear fuel cycle material and service requirements as well as the material arising from the operation of nuclear fuel cycle facilities and nuclear power reactors. It is a scenario based simulation tool which can model several nuclear fuel cycle options including existing nuclear power reactor types and future possible reactor types. The past operations of the power reactors and fuel cycle facilities can be modelled in the system, in order to estimate the current amount of spent fuel stored or total Pu in stored spent fuel. It can also accept future projections for nuclear power and other scenario parameters in order to predict future fuel cycle material requirements. The model has been designed to be an optimum mixture of simplicity, speed and accuracy. It does not require too many input parameters if the purpose is just to compare the requirements for selected scenarios. Furthermore, the accuracy of the system can be improved by introducing more detailed and correct sets of input parameters.
