Book I Think Therefore I Am Wrong

Download or read book I Think Therefore I Am Wrong written by Howard Rankin and published by . This book was released on 2019-10-24 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Human beings aren't logical, they're psychological, with the emphasis on the psycho," wrote Howard Rankin in his book Power Talk; The Art of Effective Communication. In I Think Therefore I Am Wrong, Dr Rankin explores the various processes of thinking and shows how for the most part, we are not logical but rationalizers, story-tellers interested in consistency and emotional comfort than the truth. The book takes us through the latest information in cognitive neuroscience, told with Rankin's uncanny knack of making scientific ideas easy to grasp and wrapping the details in humor. Who would have thought cognitive neuroscience could be that funny! The overall message also has some dark undertones as Rankin shows how and why, the conventional and social media have major influences on thoughts and beliefs and how that impacts us in the present and the future of civilization. Rankin explores traditional concepts of defense mechanisms and relates them to the many cognitive biases that have been identified, as we march to an ever more narcissistic view of 'reality'. These biases effect every aspect of life and Rankin explores how they influence key institutions like healthcare, the law, education as well as relationships. Rankin also offers suggestions and tools on how we can as individuals improve emotional control -- a critical component for more critical and objective thinking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The worst thing about food science, the elephant in the room, is that it's not just the opinions that are changing—but the 'facts' themselves shift too." Did you know that the great philosophers were the original foodies? To eat or not to eat? That’s an easy question to answer. But what to eat? That’s a deep and profoundly difficult one. Doctors and nutritionists often disagree with each other, while celebrities and scientists keep pitching us new recipes and special diets. No one thought to ask the philosophers—those rational souls devoted to truth, ethics, and reason—what they think. Until now.

Book I Think Therefore I Orgasm

Download or read book I Think Therefore I Orgasm written by Sylvain Bosselet and published by Max Milo. This book was released on 2023-08-22 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In their search for truth and happiness, the classical philosophers overlooked one of the most important facets of our lives—sexuality. The author rectifies this error by questioning this field of knowledge and practice: What is "good" coitus? What is a "nice" ass? What is a "legal" sexual act? What is universally "true" in sexuality? Who is "perverse?" Does sex represent a momentary pleasure, or could it embody a foundation for happiness? Using concrete examples, Sylvain Bosselet deconstructs the preconceptions that hinder our freedom and hinder sexual happiness. He seeks to lay the foundations for a philosophy of sex. Sylvain Bosselet has a degree in philosophy and a doctorate in psychology. He has directed a seminar on the Freudian critique of philosophy at the Collège international de philosophie.

He had always had a love of poetry, but didn't have the time to pursue this endeavor. He learned early on that he had an aptitude for poetic writing. He was encouraged by his wife and many close friends who read some of his first poems. These poems cover a large range of events which could be encountered in life. The poems are encompassing enough that people from many cultural and ethnic backgrounds should be able to find them quite interesting. They are not based in totality on any specific occurrences which the author encountered. His life as an Afro- American, growing up in the South during the era of Segregation and during the Great Depression did have a great influence on his writing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume to focus on the trope of racial passing in novels, memoirs, television, and films published or produced between 1990 and 2010, Passing Interest takes the scholarly conversation on passing into the twenty-first century. With contributors working in the fields of African American studies, American studies, cultural studies, film studies, literature, and media studies, this book offers a rich, interdisciplinary survey of critical approaches to a broad range of contemporary passing texts. Contributors frame recent passing texts with a wide array of cultural discourses, including immigration law, the Post-Soul Aesthetic, contemporary political satire, affirmative action, the paradoxes of "colorblindness," and the rhetoric of "post-racialism." Many explore whether "one drop" of blood still governs our sense of racial identity, or to what extent contemporary American culture allows for the racially indeterminate individual. Some essays open the scholarly conversation to focus on "ethnic" passers—individuals who complicate the traditional black-white binary—while others explore the slippage between traditional racial passing and related forms of racial performance, including blackface minstrelsy and racial masquerade.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Tell me," Wittgenstein once asked a friend, "why do people always say, it was natural for man to assume that the sun went round the earth rather than that the earth was rotating?" His friend replied, "Well, obviously because it just looks as though the Sun is going round the Earth." Wittgenstein replied, "Well, what would it have looked like if it had looked as though the Earth was rotating?” What would it have looked like if we looked at all sciences from the viewpoint of Wittgenstein’s philosophy? Wittgenstein is undoubtedly one of the most influential philosophers of the twentieth century. His complex body of work has been analysed by numerous scholars, from mathematicians and physicists, to philosophers, linguists, and beyond. This volume brings together some of his central perspectives as applied to the modern sciences and studies the influence they may have on the thought processes underlying science and on the world view it engenders. The contributions stem from leading scholars in philosophy, mathematics, physics, economics, psychology and human sciences; all of them have written in an accessible style that demands little specialist knowledge, whilst clearly portraying and discussing the deep issues at hand.

Download or read book Wisdom in Color written by Adelaide K. Anderson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I bought the book Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder, which is a novel about the history of philosophy, for my daughter. I ended up reading the book myself. It was a wonderful story about Western-world philosophers who became famous because they asked questions and wrote down their thoughts and views about life and their society. “What is a thought and how does a thought transform into wisdom?” A thought either remains hidden in the mind or is expressed through the written or expressed word. Are the words on this page a stream of consciousness, or have they become a thought? Like a body of water, maybe our minds are always ¿lled with thoughts, feelings, and dreams. Are thoughts similar to a pool of water, with movements seen and felt only when a breeze or current lets the light reÀect on the water’s surface? It seems that thoughts are either at the mind’s edge—like the water’s shoreline, lying just below the water’s surface in the mind’s consciousness—or are submerged in the depths of the mind’s subconscious. Thoughts are inÀuenced by the amount of light or inspiration in our lives. The tides of times and famous philosophers inÀuenced who we are in society, what we think about, and how we might be inspired to ask more questions about just about anything. I thought about when man ¿rst started to dream and ask questions about the world. Maybe I could learn about philosophy while riding through history in a goat-drawn chariot or on the back of a giant tortoise.
