The S.P.D., swift and efficient, but can it do its job when a majority of the city doesn’t want it done? An explosion? No, not a blast as from Semtex or nitroglycerine. Far worse, it is three old men, each nearing the end of his life, each no longer willing to compromise, banded together for the most bizarre vigilante activity the West has seen. She fears she will spend the rest of her days growing old, lonely, and bitter. But all of that is about to change when she is introduced to Theo van Gogh. When Theo sweeps Johanna off her feet with his cosmopolitan Parisian lifestyle, she eventually agrees to be his wife. After she enters the avant-garde world of art and modernism in France, she soon comes in contact with his troubled brother, Vincent, who resents her new place in his family. Johanna believes Theo needs to stop spending so much time and resources supporting his struggling artist brother whose mental instability continually sabotages his big ideas and career. When tragedy strikes, Johanna realizes her place in both Theo’s and Vincent’s lives, and makes decisions that forever transform the art world, and her into the most important woman the art world ever forgot. The Van Gogh Woman is a captivating story of love, passion, and genius as a woman saves Vincent van Gogh from obscurity and brings his art to the world.

Book The Young Professional s Survival Guide

Download or read book The Young Professional s Survival Guide written by C. K. Gunsalus and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine yourself in your new job, doing your best to make a good impression—and your boss asks you to do something that doesn’t feel right, like fudge a sales report, or lie to a customer. You have no idea how to handle the situation, and your boss is hovering. When you’re caught off guard, under pressure from someone more powerful, it’s easy to make a mistake. And having made one, it’s easier to rationalize the next one. The Young Professional’s Survival Guide shows how to avoid these traps in the first place, and how to work through them if you can’t avoid them. Many of the problems that arise in the workplace are predictable. C. K. Gunsalus, a nationally recognized expert on professional ethics, uses short, pungent real-world examples to help people new to the work world recognize the situations that can lead to career-damaging missteps—and prevent them. Gunsalus offers questions to ask yourself (and others) to help you recognize trouble and temptation, sample scripts to use to avoid being pressured into doing something you’ll regret, and guidance in handling disputes fairly and diplomatically. Most of all, she emphasizes, choose your mentors for their characters as well as their titles and talents. You can’t control the people around you, but you can control what you do. Reliance on a few key habits and a professional persona, Gunsalus shows, can help you advance with class, even in what looks like a “casual” workplace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As biblical hermeneutics moves increasingly toward the inclusion of vernacular approaches to the text—understandings of the Bible based on culture, context, and human experience—many communities of faith around the world are contributing their voices to the conversation of global Christianity. This volume explores reading methods and text interpretations of believers in South Africa, the Caribbean, Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, India, Kenya, Fiji, Japan, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Nigeria—revealing the ways various faith communities read the Bible contextually. Essays in this volume also illustrate the impact of the biblical text in people’s lives—on their understandings of oppression, identity, the plight of refugees, decline and loss, the relationship between church and society, imperialism, homelessness, restorative justice, bodily experiences of the Holy Spirit, and time and the future. Together, these writings provide an in-depth sense of how global Christians read the Bible through the lens of their own tradition or culture, as well as how the Bible informs all aspects of their lives as they read the world biblically.

Book Research as Worship in the Company of God

Download or read book Research as Worship in the Company of God written by Martine Adeoud and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-04-28 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed primarily for a multidisciplinary and Christian student audience, this book uses the metaphor of the biblical tabernacle to show that scientifi research is really service to and worship of God. (…) Christian researchers will realize that the approach advocated by this book in its fist fie chapters is similar to the “problem, literature, methodology, result, and discussion” style, but laid out in a very innovative way, adding an aspect that is lacking in many works aligned with this classic model that has become woefully inadequate in many contexts. Apart from the metaphorical approach of the work, another innovative aspect is the importance it places on the solution of the real problem to give life. This vitalist approach is to be emphasized! The last two chapters reflct this, speaking respectively of the metaphor of preparation for the fial offering and that of the duty to dwell in the presence of God. This is the apotheosis of the innovative contribution of this book, which I would like to see in any library where the promotion of holistic scientifi research is on the agenda. Book House of Commons Business Innovation and Skills Committee Open Access HC 99 I

Download or read book House of Commons Business Innovation and Skills Committee Open Access HC 99 I written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Business, Innovation and Skills Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government's commitment to increasing access to published research findings and its desire to achieve full open access are welcomed in this report from the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee. However, whilst Gold open access - where authors publish their articles in an open access journal that provides free immediate open access to all of its articles on the publisher's website - is a desirable ultimate goal, focusing on it during the transition to a fully open access world is a mistake. The Government and Research Council UK should reconsider their preference for Gold open access during the five year transition period, and give due regard to the evidence of the vital role that Green open access and repositories have to play as the UK moves towards full open access. (Authors opting for Green open access publish in any subscription journal, and then make their peer-reviewed final draft freely accessible online by self-archiving or depositing the article in a repository (either institutional or disciplinary) upon acceptance for publication.) Other recommendations include: promotion of standardisation and compliance across subject and institutional repositories; mitigation against the impact on universities of paying Article Processing Charges out of their own reserves; introduce a reduced VAT rate for e-journals; non-disclosure clauses should not be used in publishing contracts that include the use of public funds; BIS must review its consultation processes to ensure that lessons are learned from the lack of involvement of businesses, particularly SMEs, in the formation of open access policy
