Book excerpt: I See Myself in Your Eyes has evolved from author Joanne De Stefanos early writings reflecting on her childhood experiences into an illustrated collection of poetry and prose that explores the entirety of her lifes experiences. At one time or another, we all consider the events of our childhood and hopefully find encouragement in what we have become as a result of it. Regardless of where we come from, we all face good times and challenging times, and we grow from those experiences. We are on a journey to be instrumental in whatsoever state we are in as we share our stories that depict both our struggles and our victories. De Stefano has dedicated this collection to the many wonderful women who have come into our lives who share in the same struggles, joys, and victories. They have affected and influenced our lives greatly. Although she lost her mother at birth, she has had the restorative blessings of having many relatives, specifically special aunts and cousins who have cared for her beyond measure. An endearing collection that conveys the emotional bond between women, I See Myself in Your Eyes will rekindle the memories of childhood that we all hold so near and dear.

Book When You Can t Believe Your Eyes

Download or read book When You Can t Believe Your Eyes written by Hannah Fairbairn and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2019-07-05 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was first projected in 2004, when Author Hannah Fairbairn was teaching interpersonal skills at the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, Massachusetts. The experiences of her adult students—and her own experience of sight lost—convinced her that everyone losing vision needs access to good information about the process of adjustment to losing sight and practical ways to use assertive speech. When You Can’t Believe Your Eyes is intended for anyone going through vision loss, their friends, and families. It will inform readers how to get expert professional help, face the trauma of loss, and navigate the world using speech more than sight. Each of the twelve chapters in the book contain many short sections and bullet-point lists, intended to facilitate access to the right information. It begins where you begin—at the doctor’s office or the hospital. Since vision loss takes many forms, there are suggestions for questions you might ask to get a clear diagnosis and the best treatment. Part One also has a description of legal blindness and possible prevention, advice about your job, and tips for life at home. Part Two is about believing in yourself as you deal with the loss, the anger, and the fear before you come up for air and consider training. Parts Three and Four describe using assertive speech and action in all kinds of settings as your independence and confidence increase. Part Five gives detailed information about everything from dating, and caring for babies to senior living, volunteering, and retaining your job. It is hoped that by reading and trying out the suggestions, the reader will recover full confidence, become a positive, assertive communicator, and lead a satisfying life. Because vision loss happens mostly in older years, the book is written with seniors particularly in mind. Professionals will also find it to be a useful resource for their patients.

Book Trivialities About Me and Myself

Download or read book Trivialities About Me and Myself written by Yeng Pway Ngon and published by Epigram Books. This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected by Asiaweek as one of the 10 Best Chinese Novels of 2006 Winner, Singapore Literature Prize for Chinese 2008 Selected by The Business Times as one of the Best Books of 2014 The Chinese protagonist of Cultural Medallion recipient Yeng Pway Ngon's novel, Trivialities about Me and Myself, is a journalist turned entrepreneur who possesses a split personality. “Me” is a figure consumed by greed and sexual desire, two impulses that undermine his careers, his two marriages, and his relationship with his son. Throughout the novel he engages in a dialogue with his other identity, the moralistic “Myself”, whose principled stances try but usually fail to win over his other half. The protagonist’s lifetime, from childhood to his dying days in a rest home, parallels the modern history of Singapore itself and its evolution from a colonised city to a consumer-oriented nation, one in which an English-language educational system and commercial interests suppress indigenous languages and traditions. While the meticulously described action takes place in the city, the real setting is within the psyche of the narrator, whose two halves are engaged in an epic struggle for dominance.

This book was released on 2023-09-24 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists mostly of my mother’s notes of the metaphysical classes she taught as well as her massage classes, and other classes she took. A few parts were channeled. Do your own research to verify facts. My mom told me after she graduated to heaven “let go” in my dream. I thought it meant to release the past and memories of her but then I realized after a year when I did let go, I got closer to her Spirit and received a deeper connection. This book is in honor of my mom who graduated to heaven and is still alive. Her greatest desire was to help as many people as possible. She wanted to write this book to let others know her story of pain, and how she got through her pain. By doing this, she felt it would inspire others in their journey of life to push through their pain and find the meaning of life by finding themselves and truly loving themselves.

  • Author : Andy Cook
  • Publisher : Andy & Kelly Cook
  • Release : 2013-02-25
  • ISBN : 1482576805
  • Pages : 138 pages

Download or read book Myth of Myself written by Andy Cook and published by Andy & Kelly Cook. This book was released on 2013-02-25 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Myth of Myself" is a collaborative work by poets, writers, artists and musicians, Andy & Kelly Cook. Each author attempts to Express the Inexpressible through artwork, dreams, and stream of consciousness writings - Andy through his poems, and Kelly through her story, "Daughter of Dionysus". By turning the inward out, they explore the questions: What have we knowingly or unknowingly believed about ourselves, and each other? What will we pass on to future generations? ..... "Myth of Myself" is by two artists---in the broadest sense of the word---who are living their own dream with guts and character. In this book they visit intellectual and psychic realms, bringing back a collaborative essence of The Divine as only two people deeply in love with Life can do. This is a chapter in an ambitious project that is playing out in their writing, visual art and music, and it will certainly be appreciated as such." D. Minton, author of "Monk Without a Church" ..... "Andy and Kelly Cook are an artistic dynamic duo hailing from the fertile, artistic goldmine known as Kentucky. Andy, the multi-instrumentalist, poet, artist; and Kelly, the prolific writer and photographer. This is a deeply personal tome that makes us pause, reflect and take notice. It is a testament of their collective genius. Bravo!" Frank Messina, The New York Mets Poet ..... "Andy & Kelly Cook are two exceptionally gifted Multi-Artists. When two creative minds join together the 3rd Mind arises...Enjoy the Ride." Michael Dean Odin Pollock, Sonic Shaman/Poet/World Citizen ..... "Knowledge, from the inception of Modernism and through postmodernism to The Ocean of Consciousness, is reorganized, redefined through literature, art, music, film. The genres are changing, the canons are exploding, as is culture. The mythopoetics, the privileged sense of sight, of modern, contemporary, avant-garde poets, musicians, artists, filmmakers, are examples of art forms of a society, a culture, a civilization, a world, in which humanity lives, not securely in cities nor innocently in the country, but on the apocalyptic, simultaneous edge of a new realm of being and understanding. The mythopoet, female and male, Kelly and Andy Cook, returns to the role of prophet-seer by creating myths that resonate in the minds of readers, myths that speak with the authority of the ancient myths, myths that are gifts from the shadow." Ron Whitehead, The Storm Generation Poet

Book Forgiveness

  • Publisher : Hay House, Inc
  • Release : 2013-11-05
  • ISBN : 1401943802
  • Pages : 291 pages

Download or read book Forgiveness written by Iyanla Vanzant and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Peace from Broken Pieces Liberate yourself and embrace the future, with the 21-Day Forgiveness Plan. Too many of us feel trapped in stagnant romantic, family, or workplace relationships. Weighed down by toxic thoughts and emotions, we might be quick to judge and slow to pardon, and self-righteous about our feelings as we dwell on memories of what we or others did (or failed to do). Iyanla Vanzant challenges us to liberate ourselves from the wounds of the past and to embrace the new power of forgiveness. With Iyanla’s 21-Day Forgiveness Plan, you’ll explore relationship dynamics with your parents, children, friends, partners, co-workers, bosses, yourself, and even God. With journaling work and Emotional Freedom Techniques (also known as "tapping"), you’ll learn to live with more love; gain new clarity on your life, lessons, and blessings; and discover a new level of personal freedom, peace, and well-being. Forgiveness doesn’t mean agreeing with, condoning, or even liking what has happened. Forgiveness means letting go and knowing that—regardless of how challenging, frightening, or difficult an experience may seem—everything is just as it needs to be in order for you to grow and learn. When you focus on how things "should" be, you deny the presence and power of love. Accept the events of the past, while being willing to change your perspective on them. As Iyanla says, "Only forgiveness can liberate minds and hearts once held captive by anger, bitterness, resentment, and fear. Forgiveness is a true path to freedom that can renew faith, build trust, and nourish the soul."

Book The Event of Postcolonial Shame

Download or read book The Event of Postcolonial Shame written by Timothy Bewes and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-22 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a postcolonial world, where structures of power, hierarchy, and domination operate on a global scale, writers face an ethical and aesthetic dilemma: How to write without contributing to the inscription of inequality? How to process the colonial past without reverting to a pathology of self-disgust? Can literature ever be free of the shame of the postcolonial epoch--ever be truly postcolonial? As disparities of power seem only to be increasing, such questions are more urgent than ever. In this book, Timothy Bewes argues that shame is a dominant temperament in twentieth-century literature, and the key to understanding the ethics and aesthetics of the contemporary world. Drawing on thinkers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Frantz Fanon, Theodor Adorno, and Gilles Deleuze, Bewes argues that in literature there is an "event" of shame that brings together these ethical and aesthetic tensions. Reading works by J. M. Coetzee, Joseph Conrad, Nadine Gordimer, V. S. Naipaul, Caryl Phillips, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, and Zoë Wicomb, Bewes presents a startling theory: the practices of postcolonial literature depend upon and repeat the same structures of thought and perception that made colonialism possible in the first place. As long as those structures remain in place, literature and critical thinking will remain steeped in shame. Offering a new mode of postcolonial reading, The Event of Postcolonial Shame demands a literature and a criticism that acknowledge their own ethical deficiency without seeking absolution from it.
