Book I Remember Gospel

Download or read book I Remember Gospel written by Minister Gene D. Viale and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Gene, you are going to go places you never dreamt of seeing and you will minister to people you never could imagine you would reach. Don't be afraid. I will be your seal of approval and, as long as you yield to My will, I will be with you. " This was the word given to an unlikely recipient, a self conscious young boy who was awaiting such a word to bring direction to his future. That prophetic message would begin a journey which has spanned over forty years and taken him from storefront churches and concert halls in the sixties, as part of one of America's first integrated Gospel groups, to ministry opportunities (to this day) both in the United States and abroad. Within the pages of this book, Gene, chronicles that journey in a frank, intimate and inspiring manner. He shares as an encouragement to his readers, the way God took a willing ordinary vessel and used it in unimaginable ways.

Book The Gospel for the Person Who Has Everything

Download or read book The Gospel for the Person Who Has Everything written by Will Willimon and published by Paraclete Press. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secure, content, competent, reasonably happy and fulfilled, such persons of strength go their own way without any apparent discomfort at having missed the benefits of the Christian faith. . . . What do you say to the person who says, through his or her neglect of the faith, "Thanks, but I don’t need it"? —from the book Bishop William Willimon brings the Gospel of Jesus Christ to life for the person who has everything – happy, fulfilled human beings, who don’t feel the same level of need expressed by the downcast, the outcast, the brokenhearted, and the miserable. Willimon says that the church’s message to the wretched and sad must not exclude the strong and the joyous. In nine concise, inspired chapters, he discusses these ideas: • Must one be sad, depressed, wallowing in sin and degradation, immature, and childishly dependent in order truly to hear the Good News? (See chapters 1 and 2.) • “What do we say to the strong?” (See chapters 3 and 4.) • Speaking to the strong and to the people who are weak and want to be stronger: a particular kind of evangelistic message. They have their sins, but these sins are not the sins of the weak (chapter 5). • Worship which takes God’s strong love seriously (chapter 6) • Ethics which arise out of our response to that love (chapter 7) • Church as a place of continual growth and widening responsibility (chapters 8 and 9)

Book Living in the Company of Jesus

Download or read book Living in the Company of Jesus written by Philip J. Harak and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-11-16 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At this critical time of despair, divisiveness, systemic oppression, wealth disparity and poverty, global pandemic, climate crisis, and looming nuclear annihilation, readers searching for Jesus amidst these crises will (re)discover a loving, welcoming, compassionate, nonviolent God who wants us and our world healed. This book helps discern and employ those healing actions. Firmly rooted in the Ignatian spiritual practices of imaginative immersion into Jesus, Philip applies his professional teaching and learning perspectives to his late Jesuit brother's profound and inspiring scriptural meditations to provide a variety of effective, practical ways to develop a deeper, more engaging, and unifying discipleship. Readers are urged to consider the kingdom as Jesus reveals it, and to heed Pope Francis' revolutionary call to "make active nonviolence our way of life." Clergy and lay people will more deeply appreciate the essential ways in which Jesus' words and actions counter our kingdoms' ubiquitous employment of divisiveness, hatred, vengeance, and violence. Our book helps people act with greater certainty in creatively applying effective solutions to today's pressing problems, based upon Jesus' modeling of loving care and service to all people and creation.

Book Reading Mark s Gospel as a Text from Collective Memory

Download or read book Reading Mark s Gospel as a Text from Collective Memory written by Sandra Huebenthal and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did the Gospel of Mark come to exist? And how was the memory of Jesus shaped by the experiences of the earliest Christians? For centuries, biblical scholars examined texts as history, literature, theology, or even as story. Curiously absent, however, has been attention to processes of collective memory in the creation of biblical texts. Drawing on modern explorations of social memory, Sandra Huebenthal presents a model for reading biblical texts as collective memories. She demonstrates that the Gospel of Mark is a text evolving from collective narrative memory based on recollections of Jesus’s life and teachings. Huebenthal investigates the principles and structures of how groups remember and how their memory is structured and presented. In the case of Mark’s Gospel, this includes examining which image of Jesus, as well as which authorial self-image, this text as memory constructs. Reading Mark’s Gospel as a Text from Collective Memory serves less as a key to unlock questions about the historical Jesus and more as an examination of memory about him within a particular community, providing a new and important framework for interpreting the earliest canonical gospel in context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The skepticism holding sway in our public society practically screams that one cannot be serious and also be Christian. This work exposes the lie to such skepticism. This book adopts the scientific method to demonstrate the underlying facts recorded in the Gospels. The arguments rely solely upon reason and objective criteria to substantiate their conclusions. This fast-paced work by a nuclear engineering executive with more than thirty-five years of experience will defy expectations. Rigorous and systematic, this apologetic work is curated with verve, energy, and wit. It will pique the interests of academics and lay audience alike by answering these questions: •Why is the resurrection a necessary but not sufficient condition for the rise of Christianity? •Who founded Christianity? Hint: it was not Saint Paul, as many suppose. •Why did the church retain all of the Hebrew Bible, even though only a small fraction pertains directly to the New Testament? •How does the church rectify the necessity of justice with the virtue of mercy? •Why did his first followers call Jesus the Christ while fully aware that he did not satisfy the expectations of the Christ in the Hebrew Bible? At the end of the book, readers will ask the same question about Jesus that Jesus asked of the apostles, “Who do you say that I am?”
