Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1997, this volume provides the reader from a common law background with an introduction to the Legal System and basic private law institutions of contemporary Italy. It aims to afford a basic understanding, rather than a detailed presentation, of Italian law, through an appreciation of its historical development within the civil law tradition and its place in that family of legal systems descended from Roman law. Having described Italy’s place in European legal history and identified the main features of civil law systems generally, it examines the structure of the modern Italian State, its legislative process. Constitution, legal professions and systems of civil, criminal and administrative justice. The last third is devoted to private law, in particular the law relating to the family, property, contracts and civil wrongs, particular attention being paid to differences between the civil and common law approaches to these subjects. It is a readable, lucid and systematic account of its subject.

Book Andronikos Kallistos a Byzantine Scholar and His Manuscripts in Italian Humanism

Download or read book Andronikos Kallistos a Byzantine Scholar and His Manuscripts in Italian Humanism written by Luigi Orlandi and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interest in Andronikos Kallistos, a leading personality among the Greek émigrés who participated in Italian Humanism, arose at the end of the nineteenth century within the frame of the studies on Byzantine scholars of the Renaissance. Researchers have only glimpsed the depth of Kallistos' erudite personality. To date, nearly 130 manuscripts have been found bearing evidence of his work as a copyist and philologist. However, research into both his scribal and scholarly activity remains fragmented into many isolated contributions, mainly concerning specific chapters of the manuscript tradition of classical Greek authors. Adopting a synergistic approach to historical, philological, codicological, and paleographic data within this framework, this monograph study aims to fulfil the following tasks: outlining an updated biography; defining Kallistos' scribal activity better by means of a thorough examination of all surviving manuscript sources; attempting to reconstruct the development of his book collection; acknowledging Kallistos' scholarly activity both as a teacher and philologist; making an inventory of all the manuscripts which bear traces of his writing; and, finally, publishing Kallistos' works.

Book Teachers Students and Schools of Greek in the Renaissance

Download or read book Teachers Students and Schools of Greek in the Renaissance written by Federica Ciccolella and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-03-06 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The beginning of the Greek revival in the West is generally attributed to the teaching of the Byzantine scholar Manuel Chrysoloras in Florence between 1397 and 1400. Causes, aspects, and consequences of this important cultural phenomenon still need to be analyzed in depth. The essays collected in this volume examine the development of the study of Greek from the fifteenth to the early sixteenth century, reconstructing its spread and impact on early modern literatures, philosophy, and visual arts. An analysis of the methods and tools used to teach and learn Greek sheds light on the complex cultural relationships between Byzantium and the West and enlarges the traditional picture of the Greek revival in early modern Europe. Contributors are: Lilia Campana, Federica Ciccolella, Mariarosa Cortesi, Francesco G. Giannachi, Fevronia Nousia, Kalle Lundahl, Erika Nuti, Denis Robichaud, Antonio Rollo, Luigi Silvano, David Speranzi, and Paola Tomé.

Book Cobras E Son

Download or read book Cobras E Son written by Stephen Parkinson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2000 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 13th-Century (Cantiagas de Santa Maria) were composed and set to music at the court of King Alfonso X of Castille. They were songs in praise of the Virgin Mary, composed in the Galican-Portugese language. While there has been long-standing debate over the musical notations, only recently scholors have become aware of textual problems demanding a close study of all manyscript components, paticuarly the relation between the poetry (Cobras) and music (Son). This volume consists mainly of papers given at an international colloquium held in Oxford in 1994. The meeting discussed textual, musical, palaeographical and iconographical problems of the Cantiagas de Santa Maria, questioning many views about the relationships between the manuscripts, the evolution of the collections, the source of the music and the place of the collections in relation to artistic and scriptorial developments in Europe. Contributors include: Stephen Parkinson, Manuael Pedro Ferreira, David Wulston, Mary O'Neill, Ana Dominguez Rodriguez, Susana Zapke, Valeria Bertolucci Pizzorusso, Jesus Montoya Martinez, Martha Schaffer.
