Book I m Not the Only One

Download or read book I m Not the Only One written by George Galloway and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political firebrand, bete noir of the right-wing tabloids and thorn in the side of New Labour, George Galloway is one of the most iconoclastic figures in public life today. He's been threatened, smeared and branded a traitor for his stand against the war in Iraq, yet refuses to be gagged and remains a fearless activist for peace and social justice worldwide. In I?m Not the Only One he continues his campaign, speaking out for the millions of citizens who feel powerless and disenfranchised in today's political vacuum. In the era of Tory Blair and a New Labour that's betrayed its socialist roots, attacked civil liberties and swallowed the corporate lie, it's time, he argues, for an alternative. Here Galloway outlines his compelling vision of a new political movement: a coalition that speaks for all those people - whether Muslim or Christian, black or white, pensioner or student - locked out of the current system, who took to the streets to protest against war and injustice - and who want their country back.

Book You re not the only one on this Planet

Download or read book You re not the only one on this Planet written by Dr. John E. Mayer and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-05-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a clever satire with a serious social message: How poorly we treat each other in society and how this poor behavior weakens us personally and as a nation. The book critiques a wide array of everyday social behaviors and offers solutions on how to correct our uncivilized behavior. Dr. Mayer proposes a new social disorder (illness) he calls, Center Of the World Syndrome. Those who suffer from this he labels as COWS. He terms the solutions offered as: Tipping the Cows. John Mayer on: The Universal sign of friendship: Does this really mean anything anymore? When someone flips you off, do we really care? Tipping the Cow:…Blow fellow motorists a “kiss” when they salute you with that harmless finger…try it…you’ll get a bigger reaction. Conversation: Do ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ just not exist anymore? I don’t know where they went, but, poof! they disappeared right out of the English language. if you want to visit them they reside in dictionaries like sitting in a museum. Tipping the Cow: We have to stop responding to people who don’t request things from us in a civil manner. Parenting:… parents (who) place their needs and expectations before the children’s. They are Cow parents. why don’t children do things the way we want them to do them? Because they are children!… they are not finished products by definition. Mental Health Professionals: The Mental Health Field is a big, ripe grazing pasture for Cows. Parenting: it is absolutely uncivilized behavior of a society to allow such large numbers of youth to use drugs… How do we not allow our kids to drink and drug? we talk to them, we control them, model for them, mentor them and we punish (Ooops! not supposed to say that word, punish, now-a-days.) them for unacceptable behavior…talk to your kids…don’t let drugs be an unmentionable secret around the house--we need to let them know what dire consequences we will inflict upon them if they use drugs or drink.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desire to write this book was at first born out of frustration of yet another failed relationship. In the midst of this frustration, I attempted to explain what I felt love really was, to someone who I thought at that moment to not have a clue. From this relationship, I began to explore my mind and remember how love first found me. From there, this book was born. In no way am I professing to be an authority on love or relationships. I have no degrees or licenses which can validate it. I am only sharing my most intimate experiencesallowing you to be there and hopefully feel what I felt and see through my eyes, my life as it existed in those moments. To say that I'm a hopeless romantic is a very accurate description of a huge part of me. I believe in the truth of love, because love is responsible for our very existence. If not for our father in heaven, non of us would exit. My hope is that, you will be inspired by my story and that you will avoid many of the situations I encountered by cherishing yourself and the essence of love. If you do this, then I will have accomplished my goal. May love live on in you.

Book High School

Download or read book High School written by Sara Quin and published by Simon & Schuster. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES AND NATIONAL BESTSELLER First loves, first songs, and the drugs and reckless high school exploits that fueled them—meet music icons Tegan and Sara as you’ve never known them before in this intimate and raw account of their formative years. High School is the revelatory and unique coming-of-age story of Sara and Tegan Quin, identical twins from Calgary, Alberta, growing up in the height of grunge and rave culture in the ’90s, well before they became the celebrated musicians and global LGBTQ icons we know today. While grappling with their identity and sexuality, often alone, they also faced academic meltdown, their parents’ divorce, and the looming pressure of what might come after high school. Written in alternating chapters from both Tegan’s point of view and Sara’s, the book is a raw account of the drugs, alcohol, love, music, and friendships they explored in their formative years. A transcendent story of first loves and first songs, it captures the tangle of discordant and parallel memories of two sisters who grew up in distinct ways even as they lived just down the hall from one another. This is the origin story of Tegan and Sara.

Book You re the Only One I Can Tell

Download or read book You re the Only One I Can Tell written by Deborah Tannen and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2017-05-02 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This warm, wise exploration of female friendship from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of You Just Don’t Understand will help women lean into these powerful relationships. A WASHINGTON POST NOTABLE BOOK • “Celebrates friendship in its frustrations and its rewards and, above all, its wonderful complexity.”—The Atlantic Best friend, old friend, good friend, bff, college roommate, neighbor, workplace confidante: Women’s friendships are a lifeline in times of trouble and a support system for daily life. A friend can be like a sister, daughter, mother, mentor, therapist, or confessor—or she can be all of these at once. She’s seen you at your worst and celebrates you at your best. Figuring out what it means to be friends is, in the end, no less than figuring out how we connect to other people. In this illuminating and validating new book, #1 New York Times bestselling author Deborah Tannen deconstructs the ways women friends talk and how those ways can bring friends closer or pull them apart. From casual chatting to intimate confiding, from talking about problems to telling what you had for dinner, Tannen uncovers the patterns of communication and miscommunication that affect friendships at different points in our lives. She shows how even the best of friends—with the best intentions—can say the wrong thing, and how words can repair the damage done by words. Through Tannen’s signature insight, humor, and ability to present pitch-perfect real-life dialogue, readers will see themselves and their friendships on every page. The book explains • the power of women friends who show empathy, give advice—or just listen • how women use talk to connect to friends—and to subtly compete • how “Fear of Being Left Out” and “Fear of Getting Kicked Out” can haunt women’s friendships • how social media is reshaping communication and relationships Drawing on interviews with eighty women of diverse backgrounds, ranging in age from nine to ninety-seven, You’re the Only One I Can Tell gets to the heart of women’s friendships—how they work or fail, how they help or hurt, and how we can make them better. “At a time when the messages we give and get have so many more ways to be misconstrued and potentially damaging, a book that takes apart our language becomes almost vital to our survival as friends.”—The Washington Post

A residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC–Chapel Hill seems like the perfect escape—until Bree witnesses a magical attack her very first night on campus. A flying demon feeding on human energies. A secret society of so called “Legendborn” students that hunt the creatures down. And a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw. The mage’s failure unlocks Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory with a hidden connection: the night her mother died, another Merlin was at the hospital. Now that Bree knows there’s more to her mother’s death than what’s on the police report, she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth, even if that means infiltrating the Legendborn as one of their initiates. She recruits Nick, a self-exiled Legendborn with his own grudge against the group, and their reluctant partnership pulls them deeper into the society’s secrets—and closer to each other. But when the Legendborn reveal themselves as the descendants of King Arthur’s knights and explain that a magical war is coming, Bree has to decide how far she’ll go for the truth and whether she should use her magic to take the society down—or join the fight.

Book You re the Only One I ve Told

Download or read book You re the Only One I ve Told written by Meera Shah and published by Chicago Review Press. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Moving, multifaceted, and deeply human...as eye-opening as it is compelling" —Cecile Richards, author of Make Trouble At a time where reproductive rights are at risk, these vital stories of diverse individuals serve as a reminder of the importance of empathy, finding community and motivating advocacy For a long time, when people asked Dr. Meera Shah, Chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, what she did, she would tell them she was a doctor and leave it at that. But when she started to be direct about her work as an abortion provider an interesting thing started to happen: one by one, people would confide that they'd had an abortion themselves. The refrain was often the same: You're the only one I've told. This book collects these stories as they've been told to Shah to humanize abortion and to combat myths that persist in the discourse that surrounds it. A wide range of ages, races, socioeconomic factors, and experiences shows that abortion always occurs in a unique context. Today, a healthcare issue that's so precious and foundational to reproductive, social, and economic freedom for millions of people is exploited by politicians who lack understanding or compassion about the context in which abortion occurs. Stories have the power to break down stigmas and help us to empathize with those whose experiences are unlike our own. A portion of proceeds will be donated to promote reproductive health access.
