Book excerpt: Routledge English Language Introductions cover core areas of language study and are one-stop resources for students. Assuming no prior knowledge, books in the series offer an accessible overview of the subject, with activities, study questions, sample analyses, commentaries, and key readings—all in the same volume. The innovative and flexible 'two-dimensional' structure is built around four sections—introduction, development, exploration, and extension— which offer self-contained stages for study. Each topic can also be read across these sections, enabling the reader to build gradually on the knowledge gained. This revised second edition of Language and Media: Provides an accessible introduction and comprehensive overview of the major approaches and methodological tools used in the study of language and media. Focuses on a broad range of media and media content from more traditional print and broadcast media formats to more recent digital media formats. Incorporates practical examples using real data, including newspaper articles, press releases, television shows, advertisements (print, broadcast, and digital), blogs, social media content, internet memes, culture jamming, and protest signs. Includes key readings from leading scholars in the field, such as Jan Blommaert, Sonia Livingstone, David Machin, Martin Montgomery, Ruth Page, Ron Scollon, and Theo van Leeuwen. Offers a wide range of activities, questions, and points for further discussion. The book emphasises the increasingly creative ways ordinary people are engaging in media production. It also addresses a number of urgent current concerns around media and media production/reception, including fake news, clickbait, virality, and surveillance. Features of the new edition include: Special attention on ‘new media’ forms such as websites, podcasts, YouTube videos, social media sites, and mobile apps such as Snapchat and Instagram; Additional material on: mobility and materiality in media, memes and virality, discourse processes in media production, collaborative production and user created content, reality TV, fake news, the role of algorithms and bots in media production and circulation, and media and resistance; Discussion of media surveillance, privacy boundaries, and the so-called ‘right to be forgotten’ related to Internet archiving; Brand new readings from key scholars in the field including Piia Varis, Jan Blommaert, Monika Bednarek and Martin Montgomery; Updated examples and references throughout, to reflect more contemporary issues. Written by three experienced teachers and authors, this accessible textbook is an essential resource for all students of English language and linguistics.

Book Performing Atheist Selves in Digital Publics

Download or read book Performing Atheist Selves in Digital Publics written by Evelina Lundmark and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-02-24 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers how the non-religious self is performed publicly online, and how digital culture and technology shapes this process. Building on a YouTube case study with women vloggers, it presents unique empirical data on non-organized atheism in the United States. Lundmark suggests that the atheist self as performed online exists in tension between a perception of atheism as sinful and amoral in relation to hegemonical Christianity in the U.S., and the hyperrational, male-centered discourse that has characterized the atheist movement. She argues that women atheist vloggers co-effect third spaces of emotive resonance that enable a precarious counterpublicness of performing atheist visibility. The volume offers a valuable contribution to the discussion of how the public, the private, and areas in-between are understood within digital religion, and opens up new space for engaging with the increased visibility of atheist identity in a mediatized society.

Book Mark Pine v United States

Download or read book Mark Pine v United States written by Mark Pine and published by Mark Pine. This book was released on 2020-08-31 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is taken from blog posts on markpine.com The blog markpine.com was created using the wordpress.com platform. I’m originally from Woodmere, New York. I graduated from Hewlett High School in 1994. I currently live in New York City. I’m a full-time student at CUNY, a licensed New York real estate broker, a web entrepreneur, and marketing professional. People I know pay New York law enforcement to torture me. They injected me in the face and stomach with something that won’t dissolve. This has been confirmed by a doctor. There is no one to report it to besides the public. In my opinion, the FBI and police have little to no oversight. Regardless, I'm not giving up. New York law enforcement and their civilian team viciously harass me every day. They are harassing me right now as I write this. They have me under aggressive 24/7 surveillance. New York law enforcement drugs me several times a day. New York law enforcement has people blow smoke in my face. They also put narcotics into water and throw it on me. New York law enforcement goes into all my school assignments, email accounts, social media accounts, and this book. They add grammar and spelling errors into everything I write. I’m going to spell check this document and do the best I can. I also have a software program I pay extra for that checks everything. If you see an error in this book, the odds are New York law enforcement was spreading a little hate and lies which is their function on this earth. I’m working on creating various startups. My startups are not an investment opportunity. I’m putting my startups on GoFundMe and FundRazr as a crowdfunding in case anyone wants to give. Why would someone give to a crowdfunding and get nothing in return? My answer is because an individual likes what I’m trying to accomplish. The odds are that all my startups will never get off the ground. If my startups do get off the ground, the odds are they will fail. I don’t think I’m being negative, it’s the reality of the situation. My startups are going to be for profit enterprises. I plan on taking salaries and a percentage of the profit if there is any. I want to be 100% clear upfront because I’m an honest person. Also, I’m under 24/7 surveillance by the FBI and NYPD. They can care less about the Bill of Rights, they go into all my accounts, phone, laptop, etc. I don’t have a criminal record. I don’t do anything illegal. People I know pay New York law enforcement to torture me. New York law enforcement has already drugged me a few times today and they have people teasing and harassing me as I write this. If you don’t believe this goes on Google the word COINTELPRO. The US government, FBI, and police were exposed for torturing people decades ago. I’m confirming that they still do it. You can also Google what police officers have been arrested for in the past few years and it will astonish you. Murder, rape, child abuse, drug dealing, etc. Disclaimers: If you have an emergency call 911. Use this information at your own risk. Results are not guaranteed. All information is subject to change. Results are not guaranteed. I’m not a doctor. I’m not a lawyer. Please verify all information yourself. This is not an investment opportunity. I am crowdfunding various projects but they are not an investment opportunity. If you give to my crowdfunding on GoFundMe, FundRazr, Patreon, or any website like that it is a gift, not an investment. I’m planning on financing everything myself. My startups are going to be for-profit enterprises and I will be taking money out of all of them including profits, salaries, etc. If you would like to hear me complain about law enforcement torturing me and talk more specifically about my crowdfunding you can visit me on social media: youtube.com/markpine360 facebook.com/markpine360 instagram.com/markpine360 twitter.com/markpine360 linkedin.com/in/markpine All the info from this book is available for free at markpine.com if you don't want to pay. markpine.com was created using the wordpress.com platform.

Book excerpt: A fresh, hilarious, and relatable collection of essays about everything from motherhood and marriage to sobriety and work-life balance (or imbalance) from the nationally bestselling author of the “honest, complicated” (SheKnows) Idiot. TRIGGER WARNING: TORN EVERYTHING! In her first book, Idiot, bestselling author Laura Clery gave us mind-blowingly personal life stories about addiction, toxic relationships, and recovery—establishing herself as the preeminent voice of infinite conviction meets zero impulse control. Here she is two kids later asking, “How did we get here?” Sex. Sex is how we got here. Laura’s life has changed a great deal since she wrote Idiot, but her hilarious candor has only increased with motherhood—plus she tells some of the stories she was too scared to tell in her first book (which is really saying something). “Full of wit” (Publishers Weekly) and charm, Laura shares more than anyone wanted about: -Placenta pills, mom brain, and vibrator manifestation -Nipple-twisting orgies and flinging a butt burrito in your doctor’s face -ADHD, autism, postpartum depression, and the wisdom of a ninety-eight-year-old sage named Anne -Unsolicited dick, sexual assault, and sister-drugging -Cheating, fights, and forgiveness -Choosing love over fear and healing the world Laura does not hold back when it comes to sharing stories of screw-ups, triumphs, and learning from her mistakes. Whether she’s crying into a diaper in a Whole Foods parking lot or desperately soliciting advice from a random elderly stranger (who has most certainly considered a restraining order), Laura is able to laugh at herself even during her worst moments—more importantly, she makes us laugh, cry, and feel less alone in the world.

Book The Last Good Girl

Download or read book The Last Good Girl written by Allison Leotta and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-05-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Allison Leotta, the “highly entertaining storyteller” (George Pelecanos) who writes “in a style that’s as real as it gets” (USA TODAY), a ripped-from-the-headlines novel featuring prosecutor Anna Curtis at the center of a national story involving campus rape and the disappearance of a young woman. Emma, a freshman at a Michigan university, has gone missing. She was last seen leaving a bar near the prestigious and secretive fraternity known on campus as “the rape factory.” The main suspect is Dylan Brooks, the son of one of the most powerful politicians in the state. But so far the only clues are pieced-together surveillance footage of Emma leaving the bar that night…and Dylan running down the street after her. When Anna discovers the video diary Emma kept over her first few months at college, it exposes the history she had with Dylan: she had accused him of rape before disappearing. Emma’s disappearance gets media attention and support from Title IX activists across the country, but Anna’s investigation hits a wall. Now Anna is looking for something, anything she can use to find Emma alive. But without a body or any physical evidence, she’s under threat from people who tell her to think hard before she ruins the name of an “innocent young man.” Inspired by real-life stories, The Last Good Girl shines a light on campus rape and the powerful emotional dynamics that affect the families of the men and women on both sides.
