Download or read book The Book of Old Sayings with Some New Sayings written by Muneer H. Waheed and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a student of philosophy, I took interest in it. History was also a favorite study. I was an A student in English. I liked to read and write. Creative writing was fun to do. Over the years, as I traveled and worked on ships and construction sites, I developed my manhood, you might say. I matured around men who talked filthy, played the dozen, and told a lot of jokes. Of course, I was influenced by some of this. I picked up on a lot of jokes and old sayings, mostly from older men. Throughout the years, I had remembered quite a few. My friends used to call me a philosopher. I had a saying for everything. Over the years, I realized everyone had picked up their share of sayings as well. I started writing them down because they were so many I couldnt remember them. Then I realized the wisdom in them and came up with the idea to put them in a book form for reference. I felt that some could read this book and be educated by all the wisdom. Where else could you find a collection of so many sayings that will leave you with curiosity, laughter, and wisdom?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Göring Gamble A Mattie McGary + Winston Churchill 1930s Adventure In late 1934, the adventure-seeking Hearst photojournalist Mattie McGary closes in on exposing an international scandal that promises to be one of the biggest stories in her career. Through her godfather Winston Churchill and Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, head of the largest Reform Jewish congregation in the United States, Mattie receives copies of documents showing that in early 1933, Nazi Air Minister Hermann Göring, began to create an illegal thousand-bomber air force forbidden to Germany under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. Shockingly, since Germany will not have the capacity to mass-produce advanced high-speed aircraft engines until mid-1935, Göring secretly purchases these advanced engines from American, British and French companies with the private approval of their respective governments. Meanwhile, agents from US Military Intelligence, Scotland Yard’s Special Branch and the French Deuxieme Bureau are prepared to use any means necessary to protect the secret of American, British and French companies selling aircraft engines to the Nazis Now all Mattie has to do is stay alive while she tracks down the sources inside these companies and verifies their documents. From the Wild Atlantic Way in Northwest Ireland to Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Buffalo, Greenwich, New York City, London and Salzburg, Mattie races to interview her sources before they can be killed. Along the way she acquires some unlikely allies including the Jewish gangsters Moe Dalitz in Cleveland and Meyer Lansky in New York as well as Frank Nitti in Chicago. With additional historical supporting characters German Chancellor Adolf Hitler, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, New York attorney and Medal of Honor hero William ‘Wild Bill’ Donovan, American media mogul William Randolph Hearst and Nazi SS Foreign Intelligence head Walter Schellenberg, The Göring Gamble is an authentic, action-packed historical adventure based on actual events.

Download or read book Men Explain Things to Me written by Rebecca Solnit and published by Haymarket Books. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Book Critics Circle Award–winning author delivers a collection of essays that serve as the perfect “antidote to mansplaining” (The Stranger). In her comic, scathing essay “Men Explain Things to Me,” Rebecca Solnit took on what often goes wrong in conversations between men and women. She wrote about men who wrongly assume they know things and wrongly assume women don’t, about why this arises, and how this aspect of the gender wars works, airing some of her own hilariously awful encounters. She ends on a serious note— because the ultimate problem is the silencing of women who have something to say, including those saying things like, “He’s trying to kill me!” This book features that now-classic essay with six perfect complements, including an examination of the great feminist writer Virginia Woolf’s embrace of mystery, of not knowing, of doubt and ambiguity, a highly original inquiry into marriage equality, and a terrifying survey of the scope of contemporary violence against women. “In this series of personal but unsentimental essays, Solnit gives succinct shorthand to a familiar female experience that before had gone unarticulated, perhaps even unrecognized.” —The New York Times “Essential feminist reading.” —The New Republic “This slim book hums with power and wit.” —Boston Globe “Solnit tackles big themes of gender and power in these accessible essays. Honest and full of wit, this is an integral read that furthers the conversation on feminism and contemporary society.” —San Francisco Chronicle “Essential.” —Marketplace “Feminist, frequently funny, unflinchingly honest and often scathing in its conclusions.” —Salon

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sending a message to all you wonderful, hardworking parents! Would you like to discover and release your personal power, make positive changes, and create greater balance and harmony in your family life? Well, responsible parenting is at your fingertips. You don’t need me to tell you how hard parenting can be. Babies don’t arrive with a manual, a Parental Guide for Dummies. We just have to get on with it and do our best whilst watching everyone else seemingly do it better than us. But so many other parents feel the same. They experience self-doubt, guilt, fear. They lack belief in their abilities and see themselves as failures. They’re tired, overwhelmed, demoralised. And becoming a parent doesn’t mean we automatically shrug off our “stuff.” We’re still stuck with our insecurities, our history and herstory—the family experiences, habits, learnt behaviours, and often unresolved feelings from our experiences as children. Still coping with all that in our now grown up lives, we then become a parent. Now we have small people relying on us—tiny, fragile people we love so much, needing and expecting us to nurture and care for them and make sure we get it right. Then they grow into toddlers who seem to challenge our every word, then children with changing needs and an answer for everything, and then come those dreaded, wonderful teens! But it doesn’t have to be such a challenge. Here is where it can all change, if you believe it can and if you want it to. Positive, powerful, responsible parenting is within your grasp. Read my book, find some sunshine for your soul, and start today. Rediscover the wonderful, unique, incredible person and not just the parent that you are and do it just one breath, one step, one day at a time.
