In this new anecdotal but thoroughly practical book, Peter Alliss sets out to promote golf as the answer to middle-aged discontentment. Peter Alliss has no difficulty giving compelling reasons as to why golf is the perfect game for adults - breathtaking scenery, fresh air, camaraderie and instant therapy. The author describes how to go about taking up the game, what equipment is necessary to buy and who to contact for lessons. With the aid of line drawings, he describes the basic techniques of golf, how to maintain a consistent swing and how to build up self-confidence. GOLF - THE CURE FOR A GRUMPY OLD MAN is aimed at regular golfers whose skills have deteriorated and would-be golfers who need the guidance as to which path to follow. Alliss's humorous but always helpful book will confirm the great game as a really accessible and hugely enjoyable pastime to pursue for both men and women.

There are a few things in the past that I would change. However, I would not change my wife as she is a beautiful specimen of womanhood.

Book Grumpy and the Incurables

Download or read book Grumpy and the Incurables written by DHK and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2024-03-01 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Old, grumpy, and cynical, this man in his 70s complains about being riddled with incurable diseases which he describes using a lot of profanity, but in such a way that you can’t help yourself but laugh and feel sorry for him at the same time. He could be your Dad, your Grandad or perhaps you some day and this touches something in the reader. He claims he is trying to reach out to fellow sufferers of the many diseases but he openly admits that this is only because he wants them to buy his book. He promises that if you buy his book he won’t waste his profits on any good causes other than giving himself one final celebration or blow out as he says. He thinks he is a Senior Citizen Influencer and he shamelessly pokes fun at everyone on the planet whom he describes as little hamsters so busy running around in the wheel chasing a lost cause, until they can’t. He is also disparaging about ‘do gooders’ and those who would try to save the planet, but there is a hint of ‘tongue in cheek’ in all he says, or is there? Between the lines there is a serious side where he describes the suffering and indignities brought about by many of the conditions that he and millions of others endure. This book is not to everyone’s taste but everyone should read it.

Book excerpt: Adventure writer Jessica Maxwell loves a challenge and decided to tackle golf the way she had tackled skiing and fly-fishing, two demanding sports she took up in her early thirties after a life as a confirmed "non-jockette." Surely golf couldn't be that much more difficult?could it? In this irreverent memoir we have a front-row seat as Jessica struggles to learn golf's etiquette, traditions, and complex rules—from her first comical attempts to coax practice balls out of a golf ball machine, to just hitting the damn ball, to acquiring her own set of Nancy Lopez clubs! Among her coaches are Peter Croker, a revolutionary Australian teaching pro, Cindy Swift Jones, his partner and putting guru, and Al Mundle, the Harvey Penick of the Northwest, as well as seventy-eight-year-old American women's golf legend Peggy Kirk Bell and the queen of golf herself, Nancy Lopez. A willful celebration of what one golf coach called "the atrocious first year," Driving Myself Crazy is an often hilarious, always inspiring tale of one woman's obsession with proving to herself that golf—played right—is a beautiful game ... at least for that moment.

Book A Spiritual Odyssey

Download or read book A Spiritual Odyssey written by Brian O'Hare and published by Amazon. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Spiritual Odyssey" is the compelling story of a six-year journey on two converging paths - a burgeoning spirituality, and a dramatic physical degeneration that took the author to the doors of death. It is essentially a witness to the miraculous grace of God, and how it reaches into both soul and body. The author struggles with questions of a theological nature, but not in an academic way. The questions emerge from the practical, often confusing circumstances, in which the author finds himself as he copes with dying and tries to understand his growing spirituality. 1. "Some of the medical descriptions chill the blood but the religious explorations are heart-warming .... a fine exposition of the riches of the Catholic tradition [David McLaurin, The Tablet] 2. Intelligent and sensitive...very moving...gives a graphic account of suffering and anguish...gives us wonderful vignettes of people he met on his journey. [Anthony Redmond, The Irish Catholic Newspaper] 3. I read it with enjoyment and, I hope, profit. What distinguishes it from other spiritual works is the clarity of the prose and the honesty of the author [Professor Art Cosgrove, Vice-Chancellor, University College, Dublin] 4. It deserves a very wide readership as it has the potential to do a lot of good for God’s holy people. I have bought extra copies for friends who will be deeply touched by it. [Fr. Sean Fagan, International Theologian, lecturer and writer.]
