Book I m Still Hungry

    Book Details:
  • Author : Carnie Wilson
  • Publisher : Hay House, Inc
  • Release : 2004-05-01
  • ISBN : 1401930026
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book I m Still Hungry written by Carnie Wilson and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2004-05-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best-selling author of Gut Feelings Carnie Wilson was 300 pounds, unemployed, depressed, and sitting in a doctor’s office being told that she probably wouldn’t live much longer. At night, she had terrible dreams of her mother getting a phone call from the police saying, "We’re very sorry, but someone found your daughter in bed, and she’s gone." Knowing she had to do something to save her own herself, Carnie opted to have gastric bypass surgery. She woke up the next day in the hospital determined that she wouldn’t just work on having a new body, but also a new life. That’s the story we’ve already heard. In I’m Still Hungry, Wilson picks up where she left off in her 2001 book Gut Feelings. She takes readers step by step on her weight loss journey, which wasn’t just a road to reaching 125 pounds. It was a mental trip where she had to conquer all of her fears and insecurities, including issues with her father, Beach Boy Brian Wilson—which made her gain the weight in the first place. This book offers a unique way of showing the progression of weight loss, with one section serving as a diary of sorts. It details Carnie’s weight at specific times so that readers can use this part of the book to find their own weight and see how Carnie’s life lessons got her head in the right place so the pounds could keep falling off. Wilson also offers a humorous look at her own weight loss, asking: What’s better—sex or chocolate? (Answer: "Sex followed by chocolate.") She also discusses re-establishing her career as an actress and singer in Hollywood. It wasn’t easy when the National Enquirer was practically staking out her house to catch her on "a fat day," or when fans e-mailed her to chastise her for flashing "some arm flab" on Entertainment Tonight. And, of course, the book includes Carnie’s minute-by-minute description of posing for the June 2003 issue of Playboy magazine, with the inevitable questions: Can I eat breakfast before posing nude? Why do I have my period this week of all weeks? and Do I look fat? Carnie also gives readers a glimpse of what spurred on the much awaited 2004 regrouping of the Wilson Phillips band and how she is in perfect harmony again with her partners, sister, Wendy Wilson; and bandmate, Chynna Phillips. Finally, the last part of the book reveals the specific weight-loss plan that Carnie still uses to keep slim—and anyone can follow this plan to lose weight whether they’ve had weight-loss surgery or not. Carnie even includes a few of her favorite desserts. Wilson is still hungry for knowledge, love, acceptance, and yes, a chocolate chip cookie or two.

Book I m Hungry or Am I

Download or read book I m Hungry or Am I written by Joanne M. Moff and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-01-27 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joanne M. Moff, PA-C has been a practicing Physician Assistant for nine years. She received her training at Kettering College of Medical Arts in Kettering, Ohio. She has experience in both general and cardiothoracic surgery, and she recently changed her focus to bariatric surgery. She currently works with Dr. Rita Anderson at Kettering Medical Center. OkayIve Gone Through Weight Loss Surgery, Now What Do I Do?! is truly a labor of love. This book actually evolved from a rather simple idea. During employee orientation at Kettering Medical Center, new hires were encouraged to find ways in which to make a difference in their patients lives in whatever way they could big or small. The inspiration to find your pickle was introduced. That began the process of seeking out some way to have an effect in bariatric patients lives. Within the first couple of weeks after starting with Dr. Rita Anderson in bariatric surgery, a pickle was discovered. Early recognition of the need for bariatric patients to have support following their surgery was made. In order for the patients to achieve success in the short term with their weight loss as well as in the long term with maintenance of their weight loss and an overall healthier lifestyle, support was seen as necessary. At first, simple ways to offer help were tossed around: a calendar, a mug, or a water bottle with tips, pointers and reminders on it listing how to live the new lifestyle as a bariatric patient. Then came the idea of a small booklet. The booklet would be interactive, allowing bariatric patients to offer their own helpful hints and suggestions, and there would be input from healthcare providers as well. As patients gave their contributions, research was being conducted and information was being gathered that would help to explain the whys of the new bariatric lifestyle as well as specific ways to incorporate those lifestyle changes. The booklet grew, going from five sections into eight chapters. It has continued to grow and expand into a full-fledged book covering the most important issues with which a bariatric patient will be faced. The pickle that started out as a simple, sweet gherkin has turned into an elaborate, giant dill pickle. What began as a way to help patients in the New Life Weight Loss Surgery Center succeed has turned into a crusade to help all patients who have gone through bariatric surgery succeed. Bariatric patients have seen enough failure in their lives with failed diets and recurrent weight gain. With the support of this book as well as support from family, friends, healthcare providers and other bariatric patients, failure will hopefully be a thing of the past.

Book Still Hungry in America

Download or read book Still Hungry in America written by Robert Coles and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1969, the documentary evidence of poverty and malnutrition in the American South showcased in Still Hungry in America still resonates today. The work was created to complement a July 1967 U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Employment, Manpower, and Poverty hearings on hunger in America. At those hearings, witnesses documented examples of deprivation afflicting hundreds of thousands of American families. The most powerful testimonies came from the authors of this profoundly disturbing and important book. Al Clayton’s sensitive camerawork enabled the subcommittee members to see the agonizing results of insufficient food and improper diet, rendered graphically in stunted, weakened and fractured bones, dry, shrunken, and ulcerated skin, wasting muscles, and bloated legs and abdomens. Physician and child psychiatrist Robert Coles, who had worked with these populations for many years, described with fierce clarity the medical and psychological effects of hunger. Coles’s powerful narrative, reinforced by heartbreaking interviews with impoverished people and accompanied by 101 photographs taken by Clayton in Appalachia, rural Mississippi, and Atlanta, Georgia, convey the plight of the millions of hungry citizens in the most affluent nation on earth. A new foreword by historian Thomas J. Ward Jr. analyzes food insecurity among today’s rural and urban poor and frames the current crisis in the American diet not as a scarcity of food but as an overabundance of empty calories leading to obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year From an obesity and neuroscience researcher with a knack for engaging, humorous storytelling, The Hungry Brain uses cutting-edge science to answer the questions: why do we overeat, and what can we do about it? No one wants to overeat. And certainly no one wants to overeat for years, become overweight, and end up with a high risk of diabetes or heart disease--yet two thirds of Americans do precisely that. Even though we know better, we often eat too much. Why does our behavior betray our own intentions to be lean and healthy? The problem, argues obesity and neuroscience researcher Stephan J. Guyenet, is not necessarily a lack of willpower or an incorrect understanding of what to eat. Rather, our appetites and food choices are led astray by ancient, instinctive brain circuits that play by the rules of a survival game that no longer exists. And these circuits don’t care about how you look in a bathing suit next summer. To make the case, The Hungry Brain takes readers on an eye-opening journey through cutting-edge neuroscience that has never before been available to a general audience. The Hungry Brain delivers profound insights into why the brain undermines our weight goals and transforms these insights into practical guidelines for eating well and staying slim. Along the way, it explores how the human brain works, revealing how this mysterious organ makes us who we are.
