Book excerpt: An impending divorce. A hot homicide detective. And spontaneous time travel.Midlife in Glimmerspell is proving to be magical. If I thought the first half of my life was a bumpy ride, I'd better buckle up because I'm about to go over the hill and off the rails. *A laugh out loud Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel by New York Times Bestseller Addison Moore* After catching my husband in bed with another woman, I gave him the heave-ho, put our house on the market, and moved away to an enchanting little town for a brand new start. What I didn't count on was the fact that enchanting little town might just be-enchanted. Glimmerspell is rumored to be home to vampires, werewolves, and fae, but those are just simply gimmicks to lure tourists to their snowy little town-aren't they? Nevertheless, I've got a job at the Haunted Book Barn where my niece films her infamous video blog-Murder, Mayhem, and Baking. She's somehow wrangled me into helping out with whipping up the sweet treats, and in the middle of filming an episode a hot flash strikes and I'm transported to another time, place, and another day entirely. If I thought the first half of my life was a bumpy ride, I'd better buckle up because I'm about to go over the hill and off the rails. Midlife in Glimmerspell can be a real killer. From the NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestselling author, Addison Moore- Cosmopolitan Magazine calls Addison's books, "...easy, frothy fun!"

Book excerpt: The New York Times Bestseller From the acclaimed author of Garden Spells comes an enchanting tale of lost souls, lonely strangers, secrets that shape us, and how the right flock can guide you home. Down a narrow alley in the small coastal town of Mallow Island, South Carolina, lies a stunning cobblestone building comprised of five apartments. It’s called The Dellawisp and it is named after the tiny turquoise birds who, alongside its human tenants, inhabit an air of magical secrecy. When Zoey Hennessey comes to claim her deceased mother’s apartment at The Dellawisp, she meets her quirky, enigmatic neighbors including a girl on the run, a grieving chef whose comfort food does not comfort him, two estranged middle-aged sisters, and three ghosts. Each with their own story. Each with their own longings. Each whose ending isn’t yet written. When one of her new neighbors dies under odd circumstances the night Zoey arrives, she is thrust into the mystery of The Dellawisp, which involves missing pages from a legendary writer whose work might be hidden there. She soon discovers that many unfinished stories permeate the place, and the people around her are in as much need of healing from wrongs of the past as she is. To find their way they have to learn how to trust each other, confront their deepest fears, and let go of what haunts them. Delightful and atmospheric, Other Birds is filled with magical realism and moments of pure love that won’t let you go. Sarah Addison Allen shows us that between the real and the imaginary, there are stories that take flight in the most extraordinary ways.

Ever since her mother’s tragic death, her father has mysteriously forbidden her from visiting her aunt and cousins. But on a whim, Alex accepts an invitation to visit her estranged relatives and to help them in their family business: an herbal apothecary known for its remarkably potent teas, salves, and folk remedies. Bellamy Bay doesn’t look like trouble, but this is a town that harbors dark secrets. Alex discovers that her own family is at the center of salacious town gossip, and that they are rumored to be magical healers descended from mermaids. She brushes this off as nonsense until a local is poisoned and her aunt Lidia is arrested for the crime. Alex is certain Lidia is being framed, and she resolves to find out why. Alex’s investigation unearths stories that some have gone to desperate lengths to conceal: forbidden affairs, family rivalries, and the truth about Alex’s own ancestry. And when the case turns deadly, Alex learns that not only are these secrets worth hiding, but they may even be worth killing for.

Book excerpt: The annual Mermaid Festival is the setting for Esme Addison's sunny-yet-sinister second Enchanted Bay mystery, perfect for fans of Heather Blake and Bailey Cates. The small town of Bellamy Bay has its share of skeletons in its closet, but it isn't used to bodies turning up in the local history museum. After all, this coastal North Carolina town is much like any other...except, of course, for the mermaids. Helping to run the family business, an herbal apothecary, while keeping her supernatural secret hidden is no easy feat for water witch Aleksandra Daniels. But somehow she's still found time to help her friend Celeste, who has her own Caribbean mermaid heritage, plan the annual Mermaid Festival. As fun-seekers throng the beaches, Alex gets to know and is intrigued by renowned artist Neve Ryland, who's in town to decorate the local park with a mermaid-themed mural. Celeste, however, is less enamored with the artist, as Neve has been spending entirely too much one-on-one time with her boyfriend Jasper, director of Bellamy Bay's history museum. Then, a reception for Neve ends abruptly when the artist is found dead in his office. When the police investigation nets Celeste, Alex decides to find the true culprit. With the help of her magically-inclined aunt and cousins, Alex dives in to clear her friend's name. But there was more to Neve Ryland than met the eye...and Alex fears she may be in way too deep. Will she catch the crook or be next on the hook?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new history which overturns the received wisdom that science displaced magic in Enlightenment Britain In early modern Britain, belief in prophecies, omens, ghosts, apparitions and fairies was commonplace. Among both educated and ordinary people the absolute existence of a spiritual world was taken for granted. Yet in the eighteenth century such certainties were swept away. Credit for this great change is usually given to science – and in particular to the scientists of the Royal Society. But is this justified? Michael Hunter argues that those pioneering the change in attitude were not scientists but freethinkers. While some scientists defended the reality of supernatural phenomena, these sceptical humanists drew on ancient authors to mount a critique both of orthodox religion and, by extension, of magic and other forms of superstition. Even if the religious heterodoxy of such men tarnished their reputation and postponed the general acceptance of anti-magical views, slowly change did come about. When it did, this owed less to the testing of magic than to the growth of confidence in a stable world in which magic no longer had a place.

Yes, our kingdoms are at peace now, but that doesn’t change what he’s done or his reputation as a ruthless knight. Until he catches me as I’m falling. Something sparks between us. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It starts with a dream. When my mother died, I lost the last family member I had. The antique store was her passion, not mine. I’d rather spend my time reliving my dreams about the man who’s always just out of reach. What my mother never told me was she was hiding something that would alter my life. Not many people can say they have a key to another realm. Or that within the realm is the father they’ve never met. That person is me. My father is the king in a land I didn’t know existed. I’m so using that key. When I get there, I find the literal man of my dreams. Not only is he handsome but he’s a prince and an elite fighter. A man I’m not sure if I should fear or kiss. I’m told my father isn’t the man I pictured, and instead is vile and vicious. I wonder if I made the worst decision of my life coming here. I still have the key. I could go home. I also have a prince vowing to protect me with his life. Falling for him is easy. Becoming a pawn in my father’s game is not. The Azure Kingdom is book one in the Iridescent Realm series. It features a strong heroine and a sexy prince, who can only fight what is meant to be for so long. This book contains explicit content and graphic violence intended for those 18 and over.
