Book Sports Talk

Download or read book Sports Talk written by Colin McNairn and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2017-02-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's game on in uncovering the many sports-inspired terms, expressions, sayings and images that populate our everyday language! That's the challenge that this book takes on, using a playbook for each sport. It kicks off with an opening run through the game of football, then it's out of the gate with wire-to-wire coverage of horse racing. After going for the fences and covering all the bases in the sport of baseball, the ball is kept rolling, despite many a sticky wicket, through the long-running game of cricket. A blow-by-blow account of the sweet science of boxing is followed by play-by-play accounts of 35 more sports that have been added to the roster. At the finish line, the top three sports, are scored on their relative contributions to everyday language, and declared win, place and show. The discussion is enlivened by lots of sports humour and anecdotes along with quotations from sports personalities some of which may sound quite familiar, much like déjà vu all over again....

Book excerpt: This volume of Linden New Jersey contains an interesting array of images from the past 140 years, including pictures of some of the first settlers of the township to images of the parades that capture the changing facades of the downtown areas of the borough and city. Featured are some of the early industries that made Linden their home, a representation of some houses of worship, and the Linden schools through the years. In 1861, Linden Township was formed. It was composed mainly of Rahway, but included part of Elizabeth and a small piece of Union Township. In addition to present-day Linden, the city included what is now Roselle, Winfield Park, and a portion of Cranford. The borough of Linden emerged from the center of the township as an island municipality in 1882. The two communities consolidated on April 3, 1924, and officially became a city on January 1, 1925. As the twenty-first century approaches, so does the 75th anniversary of the city of Linden.

Book Tuning into Mom

Download or read book Tuning into Mom written by Michal Clements and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-15 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American mothers are household CFOs, in charge of an estimated $2.45 trillion in direct spending. They are also an important influence on other family members' buying habits. Many organizations have identified moms as an important customer group, but the broad, age-based definitions these companies work with mask an array of different consumer behaviors. Written by two leading marketers, this book provides a new approach to understanding the "American Mom" market, examining the effect of age of the eldest child on women's values and attitudes to food, exercise, education, health, technology, and fashion. The authors examine the mom's influence on (or control of) the purchasing habits of children of all ages; from infants and toddlers to young adults. In doing so, it brings focus to the frequently-overlooked purchase influence of moms on teenagers. The authors combine large scale quantitative research of more than 4,700 mothers with qualitative case studies from individual participants. The authors also draw on decades of real-world experience to combine their research with implementable examples of best practice. Highly recommended for practitioners in retailing and product development, this book will also be a valuable supplemental text for college courses in consumer behavior and marketing strategy.

Book Mediated Images of the South

Download or read book Mediated Images of the South written by Alison Slade and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mediated Images of the South: The Portrayal of Dixie in Popular Culture, edited by Alison F. Slade, Dedria Givens-Carroll and Amber J. Narro, is an anthology that explores the impact of the image of the Southerner within mass communication and popular culture. The contributors offer a contemporary analysis of the Southerner in the media. In most cases, previous literature situates these media images in the past, most notably through historic analyses of the Southerner during the Civil Rights movement. Mediated Images of the South breaks out of the box of the 1960s and 1970s by including the most recent and contemporary cultural examples of the Southerner. This book represents a long overdue analysis of those images, from both the past and the present. In addition, the discussions are not limited to one genre of media, but provide the reader with an opportunity to see how far-reaching the myth of the Southerner and the Southern image is in American society. While there is a long list of successful southern politicians, historical figures, businessmen and women, actors and actresses, sports figures and other national and world leaders, Slade, Givens-Carroll, and Narro find that there is still work to be done to present southerners as capable and educated.

Book Broken Images

  • Author : Canise Brooks
  • Publisher : Writers Republic LLC
  • Release : 2021-04-30
  • ISBN : 1637284225
  • Pages : 119 pages

Download or read book Broken Images written by Canise Brooks and published by Writers Republic LLC. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world full of images, sometimes you have to ask yourself what are some parts in my life that I do not like. Some parts of me that I am only carrying around because of my up-bringing, or maybe some pain that I caused to myself or pain that someone else caused in my life. Now I am stuck in this image that I didn’t even ask for. In the beginning of the bible (Genesis 1:26) exact he said, ‘’Let us make man in Our Image, according to our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So my question is how did we get here? If we have power over everything including ourselves, how did we end up broken, lost, hurt, trustless, bound, evil hearted, fake, and loveless. Somewhere along the way of life we have all lost our image on who we truly are and who we are meant to be. Most of us will find our way back, but a lot of us will not. That’s not even the scary part. The fact that we continue to create generation after generation after generations with the same broken images all over again now that’s scary. Today is the day that I believe every person that tunes into this book will realize that I may not be broken like them but I am going to recognize from now on the fruits that I bear. Please don’t get me wrong, I know you may be thinking that all images aren’t bad or broken and that is correct. Some images are sweet, kind and giving, aren’t broken at all. Which is amazing, but think about all the images around you, people that you know, your very own people and not once have you told them about who GOD said they were supposed to be. This book is based on three very different characters they are not the same, but all carry around a image because of their past. I pray you enjoy, and I pray that you will understand that GOD created a whole different image for us, so why settle for less. -Three Women-Three Images-Three twist-One Story-GOD just don’t want to save us ;He wants to transform us. Download or read book Enduring Images written by Paul Fazekas and published by Author House. This book was released on 2009-02-17 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enduring Images describes the personal cost of war paid by combat veterans and their loved ones over the course of a lifetime. Dr. Paul Fazekas was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969 at the age of nineteen and participated in the most unpopular and controversial war in American history. He reluctantly, and sometimes defiantly, served as a rifleman with the First Air Cavalry Division (Airmobile) and the 11th Light Infantry Brigade for a one-year tour in Vietnam. Despite his best efforts to forget combat trauma, he was forced to confront the ghosts of Vietnam in 2002, when he met the family of his squad leader who was mortally wounded in an ambush and died in his arms. This providential meeting opened the way to a more meaningful healing from posttraumatic stress, a disorder that many combat veterans and their families can identify with along their own journeys. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge along with other military medals and decorations.
