Download or read book African American Vernacular English as a Literary Dialect written by Sophia Huber and published by Herbert Utz Verlag. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge about one’s linguistic background, especially when it is different from mainstream varieties, provides a basis for identity and self. Ancestral values can be upheld, celebrated, and rooted further in the consciousness of its speakers. In the case of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) the matter is not straightforward and, ultimately, the social implications its speakers still face today are unresolved. Through detailed analysis of the four building blocks phonology, morphology, syntax, and vocabulary, Sophia Huber tries to trace the development of AAVE as a literary dialect. By unearthing in what ways AAVE in its written form is different from the spoken variety, long established social stigmata and stereotypes which have been burned into the consciousness of the USA through a (initially) white dominated literary tradition will be exposed. Analysing fourteen novels and one short story featuring AAVE, it is the first linguistic study of this scope.

Download or read book Normal Families Of Meromorphic Functions written by Qitai Zhuang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-04-27 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in a clear and systematic manner the general theory of normal families, quasi-normal families and Qm-normal families of meromorphic functions, and various applications. Much of this book contains results of the author's research, among them is the notion of Qm-normality which includes the classical notions of normality and quasi-normality introduced by Montel as particular cases. In this book, the notion of closed families of meromorphic functions is also introduced. In addition, applications concerning the existence of the solution of various extremal problems for certain classes of univalent or multivalent functions can also be found.

Download or read book The Linguistics of Speech written by William A. Kretzschmar and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-03-19 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful study proposes a unified theory of speech through which conflicting ideas about language might be understood. It is founded on a number of key points, such as the continuum of linguistic behaviour, extensive variation in language features, the importance of regional and social proximity to shared linguistic production, and differential frequency as a key factor in linguistic production both in regional and social groups and in text corpora. The study shows how this new linguistics of speech does not reject rules in favour of language use, or reject language use in favour of rules; rather, it shows how rules can come from language as people use it. Written in a clear, engaging style and containing invaluably accessible introductions to complex theoretical concepts, this work will be of great interest to students and scholars of sociolinguistics, dialectology and corpus linguistics.
Download or read book Tumor Budding in Colorectal Cancer written by Tadahiko Masaki and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tumour "budding", which is focused on in this book, is generally defined as an isolated single cancer cell or a cluster composed of a very small number of undifferentiated cancer cells in the stroma of the actively invasive front. The correlation of tumour budding with clinical outcome in colorectal cancer was first reported in the 1980s by Japanese surgeons. Since then, the clinical usefulness of this finding in colorectal cancer has been recognised in many countries. Its usefulness has been clarified not only as a prognostic factor and a potential parameter for a grading system, but also as an indicator for therapeutic decision making. Recently, more objective evaluation of tumour budding has been advocated, and the underlying mechanisms of tumour budding formation have been investigated at the molecular level. In this book, tumour budding in colorectal cancer is discussed from various perspectives. This book provides useful information for all investigators trying to deepen their understanding of colorectal cancer and develop evidence-based therapeutic strategies.

Download or read book Deleuze and the History of Mathematics written by Simon Duffy and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-05-09 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gilles Deleuze's engagements with mathematics, replete in his work, rely upon the construction of alternative lineages in the history of mathematics, which challenge some of the self imposed limits that regulate the canonical concepts of the discipline. For Deleuze, these challenges provide an opportunity to reconfigure particular philosophical problems - for example, the problem of individuation - and to develop new concepts in response to them. The highly original research presented in this book explores the mathematical construction of Deleuze's philosophy, as well as addressing the undervalued and often neglected question of the mathematical thinkers who influenced his work. In the wake of Alain Badiou's recent and seemingly devastating attack on the way the relation between mathematics and philosophy is configured in Deleuze's work, Simon B.Duffy offers a robust defence of the structure of Deleuze's philosophy and, in particular, the adequacy of the mathematical problems used in its construction. By reconciling Badiou and Deleuze's seemingly incompatible engagements with mathematics, Duffy succeeds in presenting a solid foundation for Deleuze's philosophy, rebuffing the recent challenges against it.
