Book Straight Whisky

Download or read book Straight Whisky written by Erik Quisling and published by Bonus Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Straight Whisky' is the first book ever to chronicle all the music, magic and mayhem of the Sunset Strip. Erik Quisling and Austin Williams have created a unique multi-levelled portrait that is unlike any other rock book on record. With its sweeping historical analysis and down and dirty details, 'Straight Whisky' pulls no punches and leaves no stone unturned. Quisling has drawn upon extensive research to chronicle the ways in which music on the Sunset Strip has both shaped and reflected the American experience since 1964. Williams has chosen sixteen of the most memorable events from the period and developed them into dramatic narratives that offer an intensely intimate view of this incredible story. Together, along with dozens of rare photos and original interviews with the rock stars who were there when it all happened, these perspectives provide a comprehensive look at the most famous stretch of rock 'n' roll real estate on Earth: the famed 'rock block' of Sunset Boulevard. Here are the stories that have been whispered about for decades. Now they can be told out loud for the first time.

Book excerpt: An ad executive meets two beautiful—and dangerous—sisters in this sexually charged thriller from the bestselling author of the 87th Precinct series. To escape the daily grind, Steve Richmond leaves his advertising firm for a vacation on Lake George, hoping for two weeks in paradise. Instead, he finds mosquitoes, a drafty cabin, damp blankets, and locals desperate to take him for every penny he’s worth. On the bright side, there are plenty of beautiful girls, and the adman has just settled in when he finds one at the end of his dock, stark naked and dripping wet from a swim in the lake. They share a cigarette and a kiss, and Steve is starting to feel love’s bloom . . . until he meets her sister. Caught between two women, Steve’s vacation takes another cruel turn when he returns to his quarters after a day on the lake to find one of the locals with an icepick buried in his back. There’s no doubt the sisters are involved. To survive his vacation, this executive will have to find the killer, but first, he’ll need to overcome the temptation of the ladies of the lake. Don’t Crowd Me is one of the first novels published by Ed McBain—who went on to become one of the greatest crime writers of the twentieth century—and showcases the mastery of character, storytelling, and blood-red suspense that would make the author a legend.

Book excerpt: “A story of surviving and thriving with passion, compassion, wit, and style.”—Maya Angelou “In America, we have a tradition of black writers whose autobiographies and memoirs come to define an era. . . . Buck may be this generation’s story.”—NPR A coming-of-age story about navigating the wilds of urban America and the shrapnel of a self-destructing family, Buck shares the story of a generation through one original and riveting voice. MK Asante was born in Zimbabwe to American parents: his mother a dancer, his father a revered professor. But as a teenager, MK was alone on the streets of North Philadelphia, swept up in a world of drugs, sex, and violence. MK’s memoir is an unforgettable tale of how one precocious, confused kid educated himself through gangs, rap, mystic cults, ghetto philosophy, and, eventually, books. It is an inspiring tribute to the power of literature to heal and redeem us.

Download or read book Looking After Larry written by Charles Hays and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07-27 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lot of what you read about soldiers and war is either untrue, derogatory, exaggerated, or boringtake your pick. This book is different from typical military fiction because of the irreverent slant that I have used as your author. I feature bad commissioned officers from West Point and good noncommissioned enlisted men and the struggles that they face whenever they are trying to communicate. My primary protagonist is Sergeant James Homer Hounshell of Jackson, Kentucky, my maternal uncle. My secondary protagonist is Larry Wetzlen (PA) who was injured by a friendly fire and a victim of battle fatigue. Jimmy becomes his nurse for the duration and the storyline is looking after Larry. The antagonist is Second Lieutenant Oscar Karo from Georgia, a man who goes out of his way to make pain for James Homer. Their feud started during basic training and continued until 1945. Ill take you through the major campaigns of WWII, his mysterious death just two days before the final conflict at Magdeburg, his burial at Margraten, and his love affairs. How the mystery of his murder is solved is a very unusual and interesting part. I hope that you enjoy my book.
