Book I Like Ice Cream in My Coffee Part Three

Download or read book I Like Ice Cream in My Coffee Part Three written by Diney Deruy and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2003-08 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year was 1945. World War II was over and humanity was trying to get back to the normal way of living. Replacements for the men who were going back to the States were just getting off the troop ship that had brought them here to this faraway land from home. Little did Rick know that within a few days, his whole life was going to change. The hawkers were on every block selling their wares. Every ten feet, a prostitute would stop you and ask you if you wanted to make love there wasn't anything you could not buy for the right price. Tsingtao had the most European looking railroad station in China. It was built by the Germans, to remind them of their homeland. The city itself was like any other city, with its open storefronts and the smell of food cooking. But it was also known as the "Sin City" of the orient, with its opium dens and smugglers. This story takes Rick down through the city's underground highway, which was used by the smugglers in the old days. What he did to help the children, the old, and the weak led Rick to being the most powerful ringleader in the black market in China. He became the most hunted by all of the authorities, known by the code name "Qua-Ming."

Hello, My Name is Ice Cream is a combination of three books every ice cream lover needs to make delicious blends: 1) an approchable, quick-start manual to making your own ice cream, 2) a guide to help you think about how flavors work together, and 3) a dive into the science of ice cream with explanations of how it forms, how air and sugars affect texture and flavor, and how you can manipulate all of these factors to create the ice cream of your dreams. The recipes begin with the basics—super chocolately chocolate and Tahitian vanilla—then evolve into more adventurous infusions, custards, sherbets, and frozen yogurt styles. And then there are the mix-ins, simple treats elevated by Cree's pastry chef mind, including chocolate chips designed to melt on contact once you bite them and brownie bits that crunch.

Book excerpt: A grumpy man who detests ice cream meets a cheerful woman who owns an ice cream shop. I hate ice cream. Ever since my fiancée left me at the altar and skewered me in her bestseller “Embrace Your Inner Ice Cream Sandwich: Finding the Positive You in a World of Negativity,” I haven’t been able to stomach the stuff. Unfortunately, my five-year-old niece is a budding foodie and her favorite place in the world is Ginger Scoops, a cutesy Asian ice cream shop. Since I’ve been looking after my niece a lot lately, I’ve spent too much time there, sipping black coffee, refusing to eat ice cream, and trying not to look at the owner, Chloe Jenkins. Chloe is obnoxiously cheerful, and I can’t stand her. Naturally, I end up kissing her. But I’ve sworn off women after the fiasco with my ex-fiancée, and I’m convinced I’m no good at relationships. Still, with Chloe I’m tempted to do the impossible: give love and ice cream another chance… * * * Jackie Lau writes soft and steamy romances with Asian characters and lots of food. Book excerpt: Riding the White line is a symbol of life and how we live it. When I ride my bike on many of the back roads around my upstate NY town I follow the white fog line that marks the right hand side of the road. It is the white line that keeps me on the right path. If I stray too far to the left I endanger myself by riding in the travel lane, if I stray too far to the right, I run the risk of riding into the shoulder and crashing and getting a serious case of road rash. To lead a "normal" life is similar to riding the "white line". When you stray off course bad things can happen to you. Riding the White line helps me to stay focused and on course. Things go wrong when your life is out of balance just like when you stop riding the white line. What follows in this book are my thoughts and experiences during a life-changing, tumultuous part of my life. It follows the period in 1995 when I decided to start my own Internet Company, the merger and acquisition of other companies, my first cancer scare, the fall and ultimate demise of my foray into the business world, losing my job, and finally my battle with my cancer recurrence. Mix in a new house, teenagers, and world events like September 11, 2001 and it made for a wild ride.
