Book The Flat Coated Retriever A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide To Buying Owning Health Grooming Training Obedience Understanding and

Download or read book The Flat Coated Retriever A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide To Buying Owning Health Grooming Training Obedience Understanding and written by Michael Stonewood and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-04 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flat-Coated Retriever is a breed of gun-dog that originates from, and was developed in, the United Kingdom. The breed was developed in the mid-19th century to be a retriever that is capable of retrieving prey both on land and in the water. The Flat-Coated Retriever is believed to be a descendant of the now extinct St. John's Water Dog which originated from North America. However it is also believed that the Flat-Coated Retriever is also related to the Canadian Newfoundland (a Collie-type dog) and the Setter. The Newfoundland blood was used to give the Flat-Coated Retriever an increased level of trainability whereas the Setter blood was used to give the Flat-Coated Retriever an enhanced ability to scent prey. The Flat-Coated Retriever has a strong muscular jaw and a relatively long muzzle which makes it extremely capable of carrying birds and upland game. The Flat-Coated Retriever has a unique head which is described as being 'of one piece, ' which means that its back-skull is a similar length to its muzzle. The Flat-Coated Retriever has dark brown, almond shaped eyes which give the breed an intelligent and friendly expression. The breed has relatively small ears that hang close the dog's head in a pendant shape. The Flat-Coated Retriever has a light body build than most other Retrievers which aids in the breed's ability to be lighter on its feet, racier and have a more elegant appearance. The Flat-Coated Retriever's coat comes in a solid black or a solid liver (brownish-red) coloration. The breed's coat is straight, moderately long and dense which allows the Flat-Coated Retriever to be protected from all types of weather conditions, water and ground cover. The breed has a lot of feather across its ears, chest, front, backs of its forelegs, underside and tail which aids in the coat's protective function. Due to the fact that it is a Retriever, the Flat-Coated Retriever is a highly intelligent and energetic breed. It is therefore important to make sure that you properly exercise your Flat-Coated Retriever (both physically and mentally) as it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or having an abundance of energy. However the Flat-Coated Retriever is also a highly trainable and eager to please breed that excels in obedience related activities. Due to the fact that the Flat-Coated Retriever is incredibly loyal, friendly and trainable, it makes a perfect household pet as it is very easy to socialize with children, strangers and other household pets. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care. This guide has been designed to provide you with both precise and concise information about a Flat-Coated Retriever's basic needs to help you provide your pet with the best quality care practices. This guide will give an in-depth explanation on training your Flat-Coated Retriever, raising your Flat-Coated Retriever from a puppy, grooming, health care and everything in between! "The Flat-Coated Retriever: A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide to: Buying, Owning, Health, Grooming, Training, Obedience, Understanding and Caring for Your Flat-Coated Retriever." by Michael Stonewood is the perfect purchase or gift for a first time Flat-Coated Retriever owner. This guide includes sections on caring for a puppy, breeding, health care, training, the basic cost of owning a Flat-Coated Retriever and much more. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

Download or read book Love Is All You Need written by Jennifer Arnold and published by Random House. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of Through a Dog’s Eyes—the inspiration for the PBS documentary—a paradigm-shifting approach to living with and loving our dogs There are few people who understand dogs better than Jennifer Arnold. Twenty-five years after she founded Canine Assistants, a nationally recognized nonprofit that raises and provides service dogs for people with disabilities, Arnold had an epiphany. She’d always approached the education of dogs with kindness and compassion—eschewing the faux science of fear and domination-based training methods. And she’d always understood dogs to be uniquely, uncannily attuned to their human companions; in fact she depended on it—she knew that the bond that developed between a person and their service dog was the single greatest predictor of that partnership’s success and, conversely, failure to bond brought about anxiety and distress in dogs. But it wasn’t until recent scientific findings confirmed her hands-on experience with dogs’ intuitive social skills that she was willing to put this bold idea to the test: Dogs who bond with us completely and unconditionally will seek to please us and, with minimal cues, can learn to make remarkably sophisticated decisions about their own behavior. Sure, dogs can be taught commands such as “sit,” “stay,” and “heel,” but even the kindest reward and punishment models were merely manipulating dogs’ behavior, rather than unleashing their unique social genius and innate ability to navigate the world. In this groundbreaking, persuasive, and heartfelt book, Arnold shows us how every dog—no matter their age—can thrive through Bond-Based Choice Teaching. Her proprietary method has been hailed by leading canine behavioral scientists and is being adopted by notable dog trainers, advocates, humane societies, and puppies behind bars programs across the country. For this liberating, revolutionary method to succeed, Arnold says, love really is all you need. Advance praise for Love Is All You Need “Jennifer Arnold, who has trained service dogs for the past twenty years for people with physical disabilities, offers a window into the world of ‘man’s best friend.’ Arnold, who believes that dogs are attuned to their owner’s needs and emotions, shares tips she thinks every dog owner should know.”—ABC News “[Arnold] takes pride in facilitating the powerful relationship between every service dog and its owner—a bond that is as much about companionship and comfort as it is about health and safety.”—Everyday Health “Within the world of dogs and canine behavior there are only a handful of people who truly ‘move the needle’ when it comes to innovation, novel approaches, and intuitive thinking—Jennifer Arnold is one of those rare few. Constantly pushing boundaries of traditional thought, she not only provides fresh perspectives about how we interact with and learn from man’s best friend, she fearlessly forges new paths that stimulate and engage dog lovers as well as behavior experts and explores possibilities which previously may have seemed out of reach.”—Victoria Stilwell, star of Animal Planet’s It’s Me or the Dog and CEO of Victoria Stilwell Positively Dog Training

Walking down the dog food aisle in a pet supply superstore can present you with an overwhelming number of choices. Reading about dog food on the internet can make your head spin with so many opinions and stories. And judging the content that you find on dog food packaging can be confusing and misleading. How can the average dog owner make an informed choice in accordance with her dog’s age, size and condition? In her latest book, author Linda Case describes how to make logical, evidence-based decisions for what to feed your dog amid all the options available.

You will learn
• How pet food marketers appeal to your emotions to persuade you to buy a particular type of dog food.
• To distinguish between scientific, evidence-based information and the anecdotal evidence which is so pervasive—and often misleading—in the dog food arena.
• Is there a scientific basis for dog foods designed specifically for puppies, senior dogs, canine athletes—even various breeds of dogs?
• How to read and evaluate all of the material included on a typical package of dog food from the ingredients and label claims (“Natural,” “Anti-Oxidant,” “Low Fat”),to the Nutrient Analysis and Nutritional Adequacy statements.
• How to avoid choice paralysis and the cognitive traps that can interfere with clear decision making.

What experts are saying about Dog Food Logic
Pet food is like a religion for many—but now those strong emotional ties can be backed up with fact. Linda Case separates fact from fiction, explains the complex terms and offers a guide to pet nutrition in simple to comprehend language. Unlike other books on this topic, there is no agenda here—except to present facts and then allow pet owners to make their own logical conclusions, letting the kibble drop where it may.
Steve Dale, CABC, columnist Tribune Content Agency; radio host Black Dog Radio Productions and WGN Radio (Chicago); contributing editor USA Weekend; special correspondent Cat Fancy; author Good Cat!

Dog Food Logic is the indispensable guide to the science behind canine nutrition that will help us to make wise, well-informed choices about how and what we feed our dogs. It takes the fear out of trying to understand proper nutrition and will empower us to determine what is best for the health of our dogs.
Claudia Kawczynska, Founder and Editor-in-chief of The Bark

Don’t read this book if you want someone to tell you what to feed your dog. This is a book for people who want to learn, in a reasoned and thoughtful way, how to figure it out for themselves. Dog Food Logic goes way beyond the usual textbook list of nutritional requirements to cover the pet food industry in all its glory: the history, the business, the marketing, and best of all, the science. Case deftly navigates the most controversial topics in pet food and presents the big picture without interjecting judgment about what approach is best. There’s something here for everyone: pet care professionals and dog lovers alike will learn something new from this informative, easy to read, and well researched book.
