Book The Complete Guide to Boston Terriers

Download or read book The Complete Guide to Boston Terriers written by Vanessa Richie and published by LP Media Inc. This book was released on 2020-05-25 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Known as the American gentleman, the Boston Terrier always appears to be ready for sophisticated fun. But owning one can come with its own set of unique challenges for an owner who is unprepared for the quirks and personality of this loveable, but often mischievous breed. Written by experienced author and dog owner Vanessa Richie, The Complete Guide to Boston Terriers is an excellent overview of the breed, covering everything a new owner will need to know to successfully raise their BT. Plus, it contains information, tips, and advice from some of the top Boston Terrier breeders in the world. Be prepared to take on the challenges of owning a Boston Terrier by learning about: Picking the right Boston Terrier for your family and home Preparing to bring your BT home Boston Terrier health and wellness Integrating your new BT with your current pets Housetraining Boston Terrier socialization Training Nutrition Grooming Genetic health concerns common to Boston Terriers Caring for an aging Boston Terrier Generally considered a fantastic dog for first time dog families, the Boston Terrier has an incredibly friendly personality that makes him a great addition to any home. Socialization is fairly easy because the breed is naturally friendly. Training may be a bit more difficult, particularly housetraining, so do be prepared to put in a lot of extra patience and some extra time to get your puppy to the point where accidents become a thing of the past. They adore their people, though some are prone to choosing one favorite person, and it will be obvious as they will become like a shadow to their favorite person. This is also a breed that has a wide range of personalities, with some being bouncy and fun, while others are more dignified and mellow. What most of them have in common though is how much they enjoy spending time with the people in their lives. They are also easy to integrate into a home with other dogs, and even cats – as long as the cat doesn’t totally object to your new dog. The biggest drawback to the breed is their numerous genetic health issues. Part of the issues stem from the fact that the Boston Terrier has a short nose, which increases the number of issues with their large eyes and hampers their ability to breath as easily as dogs with longer snouts. They are also prone to bother allergies and stomach sensitivities, so you will need to be careful about what you feed your dog and how much the environment affects your pup. Most of the ailments are not life-threatening – they have a life expectancy between 13 and 15 years. They are also incredibly easy to groom with their short-haired coats.

When Christian, who is manning the adoption fair for the Humane Society that fateful autumn Saturday, finds Aaron, his heart goes out to him -- irrevocably. I Heart Boston Terriers is all about embracing love, whether it's for someone who walks on four legs or someone who walks on two. The Boston terrier Mavis's journey back to wholeness and finding her forever home runs parallel to the story of two men finding each other at that perfect moment -- a moment that defies logic, propriety, and common sense. But then when do the dictates of love follow a rational course? Come along for a journey about a man and his dog and see how that journey teaches him the truth about love and making a caring connection that just might last a lifetime.

Book You Had Me at Woof

Download or read book You Had Me at Woof written by Julie Klam and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2010-10-28 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Look out for Julie's new book, The Almost Legendary Morris Sisters. The hilarious and heartfelt chronicle of a woman learning the secrets of love, health, and happiness from some very surprising teachers: her dogs. Julie Klam was thirty, single, and working as a part-time clerk in an insurance company, wondering if she would ever meet the man she could spend the rest of her life with. And then it happened. She met the irresistible Otto, her first in a long line of Boston terriers, and fell instantly in love. You Had Me at Woof is the often hilarious and always sincere story of how one woman discovered life's most important lessons from her relationships with her canine companions. From Otto, Julie realized what it might feel like to find "the one." She learned to share her home, her heart, and her limited resources with another, and she found an authentic friend in the process. But that was just the beginning. Over the years her brood has grown to one husband, one daughter, and several Boston terriers. And although she had much to learn about how to care for them-walks at 2 a.m., vet visits, behavior problems-she was surprised and delighted to find that her dogs had more wisdom to convey to her than she had ever dreamed. And caring for them has made her a better person-and completely and utterly opened her heart. Riotously funny and unexpectedly poignant, You Had Me at Woof recounts the hidden surprises, pleasures, and revelations of letting any mutt, beagle, terrier, or bulldog go charging through your world. Download or read book The Other End of the Leash written by Patricia McConnell, Ph.D. and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2009-02-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

Book The Boston Terrier and All about It

Download or read book The Boston Terrier and All about It written by Edward Axtell and published by . This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The largest and most complete book on the subject ever written." -The Dog Fancier Who and what is this little dog that has forced his way by leaps and bounds from Boston town to the uttermost parts of this grand country, from the broad Atlantic to the Golden Gate, and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico? Nay, not content with this, but has overrun the imaginary borders north and south until he is fast becoming as great a favorite on the other side as here, and who promises in the near future, unless all signs fail, to cross all oceans, and extend his conquests wherever man is found that can appreciate beauty and fidelity in man's best friend. What passports does he present that he should be entitled to the recognition that he has everywhere accorded him? A dog that has in 35 years or less so thoroughly established himself in the affections of the great body of the American people, so that his friends offer no apology whatever in calling him the American dog, must possess peculiar qualities that endear him to all classes and conditions of men, and I firmly believe that when all the fads for which his native city is so well known have died a natural death, he will be in the early bloom of youth. There are several features that are characteristic of the dog that tend to its universal popularity--its attractive shape, style and size, its winning disposition, and its beautiful color and markings. From the bulldog he inherits a sweet, charming personality, quiet, restful demeanor, and an intense love of his master and home. He does not possess the restless, roving disposition which characterizes so many members of the terrier tribe, nor will he be found quarreling with other dogs. From the bull terrier side he inherits a lively mood, the quality of taking care of himself if attacked by another dog, and of his owner, too, if necessary, the propensity to be a great destroyer of all kinds of vermin if properly trained, and an ideal watch dog at night. No wonder he is popular, he deserves to be. CHAPTER I. The Boston Terrier CHAPTER II.
