Download or read book Trauma Turmoil Testimony and Truth A Memoir by Diana Floyd written by Diana Floyd and published by Diana Floyd. This book was released on 2021-02-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Non-Fiction book exposing the unthinkable. Diana Floyd's 5-star reviewed autobiography reveals top traumatic events from her childhood - death, sexual abuse, divorce, addiction, serious illnesses, dysfunctional relationships, family drama's, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures and much more! 27 Years Later - My journey with child abuse, a psychotic mother, death and suicide, child loss and a magnitude of undiagnosed disorders leaving doctors flabbergasted! REVIEW by Yvonne van Niekerk, Therapist at FAMSA Outeniqua "I can not believe that one person can go through so much trauma within 27 years! There is very little information available about psychogenic non-epileptic seizures. In her book, Diana explains what PNES is, how a seizure can unfold and its typical presentation. , how such a patient should be treated during an attack and what the triggers are.I admire Diana that she was able to write this book while she had literally 5 to 20 attacks a day every day.I have known Diana for 7 years and am amazed me about her courage, boldness and humor during the most difficult circumstances. " REVIEW by Maritza Gerber, Teacher at Heart At Work - Incedendo "This book is excellent. Very well written!" This is my story. Here, I have chronicled all the ‘too-crazy-to-believe’ events that have happened in my life. I hope all who go on this journey with me will gasp, giggle, and go nuts as they eagerly chew the pages with their eyes. The material stretches as far back as my childhood in the 90’s until today. Why ‘currently’? Because like the ocean, the waves of drama never stop in my life! I started writing this book in the hope of curing the sudden disorder I have recently developed – Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures. BUT WAIT, THERE IS MORE! For the past few months, I have not only been struggling with PNES but also a panga hanging over my head called cancer. So far, I have been 450kms away from my family for 8 months and counting due to my medical treatment. COVID-19 is also contributing to me being exiled. I do get out now and again, but that is only to book into hospital and get manhandled. At 27 years old, you would not believe how much drama has taken up these years. This book covers most of the top traumatic events one can think of that I have experienced: childhood traumas, death, sexual abuse, divorce, addiction, serious illnesses and being written-off despite innocence. A lot of humour has been carried through the devastating events that I have laid bare, just to make it that much more exciting! Some of the stories sound so unreal that you will literally start laughing in total disbelief. I hope you enjoy the book and keep a look out for additional pages, as my writing journey, as well as my day-to-day life is a process of progress. Happy reading! Download or read book Making Uncertainty written by Anna Versfeld and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-10 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Cape Town, South Africa, many people with tuberculosis also use substances. This sets up a seemingly impossible problem: People who use substances are at increased risk of tuberculosis disease; and substance use seems to result in erratic behavior that makes successful treatment of people affected by tuberculosis extremely difficult. People affected don’t get healthy, healthcare providers are frustrated, and families seek to balance love and care for those who are ill with self-protection. How are we to understand this? Where does the responsibility for poor health and healing lie? What are the possibilities for an effective healthcare response? Through a close look at lives and care, Making Uncertainty: Tuberculosis, Substance Use, and Pathways to Health shows how patterns of substance use, tuberculosis disease, and their interaction are shaped by history, social context, and political economy. This, in turn, generates new perspectives on what makes poor health, and what good care might look like.
Download or read book Community Health Needs in South Africa written by Ntombenhle Protasia Khoti Torkington and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: Although the apartheid regime has now been abolished there is still a great deal of work to be done in order to eliminate the disadvantages it created for the health of black people at both micro and macro levels. This book presents the findings of a study commissioned to assess and respond to the health needs of black people in South Africa. The hope expressed by those who participated is that the study is considered within the wider context of understanding the apartheid system and the scars it left behind. Community Health Needs in South Africa represents an excellent example of how action research can be used as a tool to make a difference in people’s lives.

Download or read book Occupational Therapies Without Borders E Book written by Dikaios Sakellariou and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of this landmark international work builds on the previous two volumes, offering a window onto occupational therapy practice, theory and ideas in different cultures and geographies. It emphasizes the importance of critically deconstructing and engaging with the broader context of occupation, particularly around how occupational injustices are shaped through political, economic and historical factors. Centering on the wider social and political aspects of occupation and occupation-based practices, this textbook aims to inspire occupational therapy students and practitioners to include transformational elements into their practice. It also illustrates how occupational therapists from all over the world can affect positive changes by engaging with political and historical contexts. Divided into six sections, the new edition begins by analyzing the key concepts outlined throughout, along with an overview on the importance and practicalities of monitoring and evaluation in community projects. Section Two explores occupation and justice emphasizing that issues of occupational injustice are present everywhere, in different forms: from clinical settings to community-based rehabilitation. Section Three covers the enactment of different Occupational Therapies with a focus on the multiplicity of occupational therapy from the intimately personal to the broadly political. Section Four engages with the broader context of occupational therapy from the political to the financial. The chapters in this section highlight the recent financial crisis and the impact it has had on people's everyday life. Section Five collects a range of different approaches to working to enable a notion of occupational justice. Featuring chapters from across the globe, Section Six concludes by highlighting the importance and diversity of educational practices. - Comprehensively covers occupational therapy theory, methodology and practice examples related to working with underserved and neglected populations - Gives a truly global overview with contributions from over 100 international leading experts in the field and across a range of geographical, political and linguistic contexts - Demonstrates how occupational injustices are shaped through political, economic and historical factors - Advocates participatory approaches which work for those who experience inequalities - Includes a complete set of new chapters - Explores neoliberalism and financial contexts, and their impact on occupation - Examines the concept of disability - Discusses theoretical and practical approaches to occupational justice
Download or read book Where Music Helps Community Music Therapy in Action and Reflection written by Brynjulf Stige and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how people may use music in ways that are helpful for them, especially in relation to a sense of wellbeing, belonging and participation. The central premise for the study is that help is not a decontextualized effect that music produces. The book contributes to the current discourse on music, culture and society and it is developed in dialogue with related areas of study, such as music sociology, ethnomusicology, community psychology and health promotion. Where Music Helps describes the emerging movement that has been labelled Community Music Therapy, and it presents ethnographically informed case studies of eight music projects (localized in England, Israel, Norway, and South Africa). The various chapters of the book portray "music's help" in action within a broad range of contexts; with individuals, groups and communities - all of whom have been challenged by illness or disability, social and cultural disadvantage or injustice. Music and musicing has helped these people find their voice (literally and metaphorically); to be welcomed and to welcome, to be accepted and to accept, to be together in different and better ways, to project alternative messages about themselves or their community and to connect with others beyond their immediate environment. The overriding theme that is explored is how music comes to afford things in concert with its environments, which may suggest a way of accounting for the role of music in music therapy without reducing music to a secondary role in relation to the "therapeutic," that is, being "just" a symbol of psychological states, a stimulus, or a text reflecting socio-cultural content.
