Download or read book Ask a Manager written by Alison Green and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. It teaches us how to deal with many of the most vexing big and little problems in our workplaces—and to do so with grace, confidence, and a sense of humor.”—Robert Sutton, Stanford professor and author of The No Asshole Rule and The Asshole Survival Guide “Ask a Manager is the ultimate playbook for navigating the traditional workforce in a diplomatic but firm way.”—Erin Lowry, author of Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together
Download or read book I Wanted Fries with That written by Amy Fish and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SPEAK UP AND PERSUADE At some point in our lives, we've all experienced an injustice, large or small — a restaurant botching our lunch order or a boss who isn't following the guidelines for workplace etiquette — and suffered in silence for fear of offending anyone. When we fail to speak up, however, we shortchange ourselves. Amy Fish encourages standing up for yourself (and others) by complaining effectively. Her suggestions will appeal to anyone who wants to speak up and isn't sure where to start, including managers navigating workplace disputes, couples who argue about the same things over and over, and even someone with a friend with bad breath. Illustrating her points with funny real-life stories, Fish reveals pragmatic methods to redress grievances with civility, honesty, and fairness for everyone involved — whether you're trying to right the wrongs of the world or just claim the french fries you ordered.

Download or read book Imagining Organizations written by Paolo Quattrone and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations rely extensively upon a myriad of images and pictorial representations such as budgets, schedules, reports, graphs, and organizational charts to name but a few. Visual images play an integral role in the process of organizing. This volume argues that images in organizations are ‘performative’, meaning that they can be seen as performances, rather than mere representations, that play a significant role in all kind of organizational activities. Imagining Organizations opens up new ways of imagining business through an interdisciplinary approach that captures the role of visualizations and their performances. Contributions to this volume challenge this orthodox view to explore how images in business, organizing and organizations are viewed in a static and rigid form. Imagining Business addresses the question of how we visualize organizations and their activities as an important aspect of managerial work, focusing on practices and performances, organizing and ordering, and media and technologies. Moreover, it aims to provide a focal point for the growing collection of studies that explore how various business artifacts draw on the power of the visual to enable various forms of organizing and organizations in diverse contexts.

Download or read book Haditha Diary written by J. D. Cowart and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Haditha Diary is a novel of the Iraq War set in an infamous town. Heroic, yet human, Americans fought a controversial war to uproot totalitarianism, blunt Islamofacism, and give the gift of hope. The under-recognized Christian faith of American heroes underpins the courage of fighting men in Haditha Diary. Beginning in 2002, Haditha Diary presents the story of the war through 2008. The setting is real, the story reflects actual events, and the names of heroes have been changed to protect people still fighting terrorism. Espionage, frontal assaults, and dirty-tricks culminate in a suspenseful ending when a "U.N. Mandate" floods a recently secured town with Al Queda terrorists who face off against the Marines. Treachery and patriotism abound in this thriller where battles and characters are barely fictional and always closer to the truth than the evening news. J.D. Cowart accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior in 1977. Called to serve and protect, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1991 and completed the USMC enlisted School of Infantry. After Meritorious Promotion to Corporal, he was commissioned an Officer of Marines. Cowart served as an Artillery Officer until 1999. He joined the Texarkana Police Department where he became a detective after three years. He was activated from the Marine Reserves in 2003 and made a Company Commander. He later completed the Marines' three-month Infantry Officers Course. The author began a second company command tour in 2005 and started preparing his Marines for the meat grinder that was the Iraq War. He earned a Bronze Star while serving as a USMC Infantry Company Commander in the notorious Haditha AO. "I thank God for the privilege of serving," he says. The author currently attends Trinity Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas with his wife, Amanda and their two children, Fayeth and John Asher.
