Book I Can t Complain

Download or read book I Can t Complain written by Elinor Lipman and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the beloved and acclaimed novelist, a collection of witty, moving essays. In her two decades of writing, Elinor Lipman has populated her fictional universe with characters so utterly real that we feel like they’re old friends. Now she shares an even more intimate world with us—her own—in essays that offer a candid, charming take on modern life. Looking back and forging ahead, she considers the subjects that matter most: childhood and condiments, long marriage and solo living, career and politics. Here you’ll find the lighthearted: a celebration of four decades of All My Children, a reflection on being Jewish in heavily Irish-Catholic Lowell on St. Patrick’s Day, a hilariously unflinching account of her tiptoe into online dating. But she also tackles the serious and profound in eloquent stories of unexpected widowhood and caring for elderly parents that use her struggles to illuminate ours. Whether for Lipman’s longtime readers or those who love the essays of Nora Ephron or Anna Quindlen, I Can't Complain is a diverting delight.

Book excerpt: In Complaint! Sara Ahmed examines what we can learn about power from those who complain about abuses of power. Drawing on oral and written testimonies from academics and students who have made complaints about harassment, bullying, and unequal working conditions at universities, Ahmed explores the gap between what is supposed to happen when complaints are made and what actually happens. To make complaints within institutions is to learn how they work and for whom they work: complaint as feminist pedagogy. Ahmed explores how complaints are made behind closed doors and how doors are often closed on those who complain. To open these doors---to get complaints through, keep them going, or keep them alive---Ahmed emphasizes, requires forming new kinds of collectives. This book offers a systematic analysis of the methods used to stop complaints and a powerful and poetic meditation on what complaints can be used to do. Following a long lineage of Black feminist and feminist of color critiques of the university, Ahmed delivers a timely consideration of how institutional change becomes possible and why it is necessary.

Book I Won t Complain

Download or read book I Won t Complain written by Linda L. Jones and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-02-08 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I Won't Complain" This book has been written to prove that remaining true to oneself and maintaining a right relationship with Jesus The Christ will enable you to overcome any obstacle. We just need to believe in Him 100% of the time because He is True to His Word-He never leaves nor forsakes us. He is with us each and every step of the way. I talk about hardships I faced in my life from spousal abuse emotional, physical, verbal and even attempts at spiritual abuse. However, I never allowed the spiritual abuse. During these times, I merely repeated "You Can't Steal My Joy", which often angered the person at whom the statement was directed, but didn't care because I became reassured that whether that person was in my life or not didn't matter because I have a Savior who will always be there, who will accompany me in any and all situations. There have been times in my life when I felt as though I couldn't go on and that is when Jesus has been therefore me, leading and guiding me and assuring me that I could do whatever was needed. I praise His name for all of these tasks He has done for me and want to share those testimonies with the world! God is so good. I discuss a bible study that I attend Saturday mornings that is led by a powerful woman of God who has an anointing on her life, Delores Fisher, a/k/a Mama D and the other women of God in this group of powerful believing women, led by Sister Delores Fisher who is my Prayer Warrior. I discuss my personal relationships with God, my family and friends and the importance of same. I remind everyone that we all need God in our lives and that without Him, we are missing out on blessings because as we all know, When Prayers Go Up, Blessings Come Down.!

Book excerpt: From the team that brought you The Obstacle Is the Way and Ego Is the Enemy, a daily devotional of Stoic meditations—an instant Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestseller. Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise. The Daily Stoic offers 366 days of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations from the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the playwright Seneca, or slave-turned-philosopher Epictetus, as well as lesser-known luminaries like Zeno, Cleanthes, and Musonius Rufus. Every day of the year you'll find one of their pithy, powerful quotations, as well as historical anecdotes, provocative commentary, and a helpful glossary of Greek terms. By following these teachings over the course of a year (and, indeed, for years to come) you'll find the serenity, self-knowledge, and resilience you need to live well.

Book How to Complain More Effectively

Download or read book How to Complain More Effectively written by Charles M. Dobbs and published by Author House. This book was released on 2015-01-02 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles M. Dobbs is a recently retired professor of history from Iowa State University; previously, he was a professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He taught courses in US and East Asian history, with a focus on diplomatic and military history. He authored five monographs, several dozen scholarly articles, and more than three hundred encyclopedia entries mostly focused in these areas. One of his favorite courses to teach was research methods, where he discussed how to frame the question, find appropriate materials and sources, and how to organize those sources and write up the materials in a compelling fashion. Dobbs earned his BA from the University of Connecticut and his MA and PhD degrees from Indiana University, all three in history. During his nearly four decades as a faculty member, Dobbs also spent fifteen years as assistant to the president. Duties included looking into complaints, overseeing, editing, and/or originating the president's correspondence, helping organize outreach, and interacting with various publics. Separately, Dobbs has a long history of writing letters when he was disappointed in a product or a service he received. He has always believed that companies and organizations are strengthened by logical, well-argued letters drawing attention to a problem area. From these twin experiences comes this book, How to Complain [More] Effectively. It reflects experience in complaining about situations as well as having to look into such complaints to determine if the institution was at fault; and if it was, to offer a reasonable resolution, and if it acted correctly, to explain the situation and correct the record to reflect that appropriate action.

Download or read book I Can t Make This Up written by Kevin Hart and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author, superstar comedian, and Hollywood box office star Kevin Hart turns his immense talent to the written word in this “hilarious but also heartfelt” (Elle) memoir on survival, success, and the importance of believing in yourself. The question you’re probably asking yourself right now is: What does Kevin Hart have that a book also has? According to the three people who have seen Kevin Hart and a book in the same room, the answer is clear: A book is compact. Kevin Hart is compact. A book has a spine that holds it together. Kevin Hart has a spine that holds him together. A book has a beginning. Kevin Hart’s life uniquely qualifies him to write this book by also having a beginning. It begins in North Philadelphia. He was born an accident, unwanted by his parents. His father was a drug addict who was in and out of jail. His brother was a crack dealer and petty thief. And his mother was overwhelmingly strict, beating him with belts, frying pans, and his own toys. The odds, in short, were stacked against our young hero. But Kevin Hart, like Ernest Hemingway, J.K. Rowling, and Chocolate Droppa before him, was able to defy the odds and turn it around. In his literary debut, he takes us on a journey through what his life was, what it is today, and how he’s overcome each challenge to become the man he is today. And that man happens to be the biggest comedian in the world, with tours that sell out football stadiums and films that have collectively grossed over $3.5 billion. He achieved this not just through hard work, determination, and talent. “Hart is an incredibly magnetic storyteller, on the page as he is onstage, and that’s what shines through [in this] genial, entertaining guide to a life in comedy” (Kirkus Reviews).
