Download or read book I ve Got No Grumbles written by and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-03-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Granddad Jonathan Slater of Dartmouth was a very special person. He has always held a very special place in my heart. His letters present quite a history of WWII in Dartmouth. The times were very hard and Granddad had the additional heartache of losing his wife at the end of 1939. His firstborn son, my father, Jonathan was living in the USA. Jonathan had come over to the USA in 1930, and married Agnes Reinertsen in 1938. His second son Jocelyn served in the London Irish Rifles and was taken captive in Tunisia in January, 1943. He was held in Italy, Campo PG70, Monteurano, and then sent north to Stalag IVB in Germany. The Russian Army under General Koniev liberated the camp which was located on the Elbe River in April, 1945. This collection of letters tells the story of civilian life in England during the war years through the eyes of my Grandfather and ends with the return of my Uncle Jocelyn to England in 1945.

It would be a fabulous addition to the bookshelf of every Christian household. I have thoroughly enjoyed my spiritual and emotional journey with this book. It is presented in well-chosen Bible sections, with the author's explanations and thoughts. Each segment concludes with questions for the reader to ponder and suggestions for meaningful prayer. The beauty of this book was that its effect was not just through the words but also in the time spent with God as a result. I appreciated the author's honesty in recalling his own faith journey. This helped build a rapport with the reader. I particularly liked the author's analogy of God's plan as a picture, requiring the uniqueness of all of us to make it a masterpiece.......---- Fiona M Campbell

Book In Need of Your Prayers and Patience

Download or read book In Need of Your Prayers and Patience written by Mary Lou Shea and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Church of the Nazarene embraces American attachments to democratic rule, individual initiative, efficiency, and a strong sense of responsibility as "a city on a hill." It is also present in more than 150 world areas. These attributes are reflected in the astounding story of one of the founders of the denomination, H. F. Reynolds, who has been long hidden in the shadow of his early colleague, Phineas Bresee. While the church points to Bresee as its founding father, Reynolds lived and served for an additional two decades following Bresee's death, shaping the role of the General Superintendency, clarifying and expanding the church's Manual to meet the needs of the growing denomination, and establishing mission policies and practices that took it from a US church to a global presence. Reynolds maintained a lively devotion to Christ as he survived train wrecks, war, dread disease, and the sheer volume of meetings, correspondence, and explosive scandal that came with the nurturing of a new church. His vision and methods have profoundly influenced a denomination that does not know his name. This volume is designed to make the introduction.

Book My Darling Winston

Download or read book My Darling Winston written by David Lough and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-10-02 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Darling Winston is an edited collection of the personal letters between Winston Churchill and his mother, Jenny Jerome, between 1881—when Churchill was just six—and 1921, the year of Jenny’s death. Many of these intimate letters— between two gifted writers—are published here for the first time, and the exchange of letters between mother and son has never before been published as a correspondence. A significant addition to the Churchill canon, My Darling Winston traces Churchill’s emotional, intellectual, and political development as confided to his primary mentor, his mother. As well as providing a basic narrative of Jenny’s and Winston Churchill’s lives over a forty-year period, My Darling Winston tells the story of a changing mother-son relationship, characterised at the outset by Churchill’s emotional and practical dependence on his mother, but which is dramatically reversed as her life begins to disintegrate tragically towards its end.
