Stephen Russ never expected to have to answer that question; he went to work, he stayed in his apartment, sometimes had friends over, and the worst thing he'd had to face was looking for a new job after losing his old one. But that was before a child's desperate scream led him into an alley filled with faceless winged things that almost killed him, before the strange white rat spoke to him, calling itself Silvertail Heartseeker and telling him that this was but the beginning, that the Stars were almost Right and the forces of Azathoth Nine-Armed would soon be unleashed against the world… before Silvertail said that his courage and willingness to risk himself made him the perfect choice to be one of the defenders of the world against this evil. A defender named Princess Holy Aura, the first of the five Apocalypse Maidens. Now Steve understands the choice: not whether he is willing to die, but whether he is willing to live… by giving up "Stephen Russ" to become the one chance that the world has against the monstrous forces that wait on the other side of forever. Book Magical Fury

Download or read book Magical Fury written by Ewen Cluney and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-01-28 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It started out as another boring day at work. Then a magical girl showed up, like something straight out of an anime. Except that I haven't seen an anime where the magical girl threatens to kill people. She was throwing lightning bolts around and saying something about the reincarnation of Star Princess Astraia being in the building. It turns out that was me. So now I look like a scrawny teenage girl, and I have magical star powers, and a psychotic magical girl named Shadow Princess Umbra is making my life hell. She blew up my parents' house. And the more of Astraia's memories I uncover, the more I think that Umbra isn't even close to being the worse of it. But I'm going to keep fighting, because giving up isn't an option. Magical Fury is a dark magical girl RPG, inspired by anime series like Madoka Magica, Sailor Moon, and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Your characters start out as normal girls who discover that they are reincarnated magical girls. They awaken to their powers under fire, and it will be up to you to decide where she goes with new her life from there. The game uses a very simple variant of the Apocalypse World engine, aimed at fast and flavorful play that you can jump into on short notice or play in a more deliberate, long-term style. Battles come down to a handful of rolls, and throughout the emphasis is decidedly on the consequences of the course of action you choose. The book also includes an appendix with 17 random tables to help you along with character creation and other things that pop up during play. To play you will need some six-sided dice, character sheets, and something to write with.

Book Nerd

  • Pages : 288 pages

Download or read book Nerd written by Maya Phillips and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the vein of You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) and Black Nerd Problems, this witty, incisive essay collection from New York Times critic at large Maya Phillips explores race, religion, sexuality, and more through the lens of her favorite pop culture fandoms. From the moment Maya Phillips saw the opening scroll of Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, her childhood changed forever. Her formative years were spent loving not just the Star Wars saga, but superhero cartoons, anime, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter, Tolkien, and Doctor Who—to name just a few. As a critic at large at The New York Times, Phillips has written extensively on theater, poetry, and the latest blockbusters—with her love of some of the most popular and nerdy fandoms informing her career. Now, she analyzes the mark these beloved intellectual properties leave on young and adult minds, and what they teach us about race, gender expression, religion, and more—especially as fandom becomes more and more mainstream. Spanning from the 90s through to today, Nerd is a collection of cultural criticism essays through the lens of fandom for everyone from the casual Marvel movie watcher to the hardcore Star Wars expanded universe connoisseur. It’s for anyone who’s ever wondered where they fit into the narrative or if they can be seen as a hero—even of their own story.
