Book excerpt: Hypnosis: Advanced Techniques of Hypnotherapy and Hypnoanalysis. Analytical Hypno-psychotherapy gains its strength from the fact that it is more flexible and more interactive than straightforward hypnoanalysis. We can work with a wider variety of psychological conditions and can even achieve positive results when working with the logical and analytical client. It is more interactive than hypnoanalysis, more flexible than 'direct regression' and allows the skilled worker enormous access to the individual workings of the client's psyche. We can work with people in their sixties and seventies, logical and analytical clients, individuals who are 'hypnophobic' or 'hypno-incapable', even those who strenuously seek to avoid confrontation with whatever trauma has caused their presenting problem. We can even work with those who have not experienced any trauma but are, in the words of the late C.G. Jung, "Suffering only from the problems of living." Conventional hypnoanalysis often appears to fail - usually because the therapist has not the training to recognise that he or she is using it for the 'wrong' type of symptom or the 'wrong' sort of client, more of which later. Hypnoanalysis is a relatively brief therapy, when taking into account the type of problem for which it is normally employed as a work methodology. The problem is that the oft-quoted 'eight to ten sessions' format is really only applicable when working within certain parameters - and there are many clients and their presenting problems who fall outside these guidelines. The advantage of the work methodology that we are looking at here is that it is far more versatile; its disadvantage is that we are not looking at a truly brief therapy here - we are looking at getting the client better and the timescale is going to vary enormously according to the client personality type and presenting difficulty. In any case, a conscientious therapist should completely ignore the "I can fix that in two sessions, what on earth are you doing?" brigade - therapy should never be a race. It is the emotional health and wellbeing of the client that is important, not the ego of the therapist. If you are looking for the "next level" of hypnotherapy, you have found it here. Experience the journey with Terence Watts.

Book Hypnotherapy and Hypnoanalysis

Download or read book Hypnotherapy and Hypnoanalysis written by D. P. Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1986. Scientific hypnosis has made great advances particularly since World War II, both as part of basic psychological science concerned with the understanding of brain, mind, and personality and as a professional skill in which knowledge of hypnosis is used to serve human welfare by enhancing the quality of life for those who have the good fortune to benefit from hypnotherapy and the related practice of hypnoanalysis. The reader is brought abreast of these developments through the arrangement of the chapters into two sections of the book, with the first four chapters explaining the basics of hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness interpreted theoretically from several points of view.

Book excerpt: Although research and practice in hypnosis has seen unprecedented expansion, there has been a definite lack of inclusive and comprehensive surveys to aid the student and researcher. This collection of original chapters written by leading experimental investigators is the first work to offer a current state-of-the-art in hypnosis research. A compendium of the historical background, theories, issues, and trends in hypnosis, this volume represents all major experimental viewpoints while providing a virtual ""who's who"" in the field of hypnosis. The first two chapters (written by the editors) establish the current theoretical base of the field and review the historical background. Seventeen contributions focus directly on key aspects of present day hypnosis research. These contributions are organized as surveys of broad topic areas, descriptions in depth of individual investigator's programmatic lines of research, and reports on research within specific areas, especially those representing new viewpoints and holding promise for programmatic development. A final chapter develops questions for future research.Offering an inclusive survey of the field from its historical inceptions to its current and predictive state, this book presents many new ideas while updating established positions in research and theory. The vital areas covered in connection with hypnosis include: psychophysiology, creativity, dreams, imagination, suggestibility, simulator controls, cognitive activity, and ego-psychological theory. In addition there are chapters on hypnosis as a research method, the measurement of altered states of consciousness, and hypnotic programming techniques in psychological experiments. Hypnosis: Research Developments and Perspectives is written for researchers in hypnosis and clinical practitioners in medicine and psychology. The book will serve as a basic text in all courses in hypnosis at the graduate level.

Download or read book Hypnosis written by Ronald E. Shor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 813 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thorough revision of the first edition, updates and expands, with 25 percent new material, what was generally recognized as a major survey of contemporary scientific research in hypnosis. In this edition, also a classic, the editors include three new essays in modern hypnosis studies. They also provide a new conceptual framework--cognitive, ego-psychological, and phenomenological--with which to examine hypnosis. This edition is divided into six sections--Theoretical and Historical Perspectives, New Theories, Surveys of Broad Areas, Lines of Individual Research, Individual Researches within Specific Areas, and Anticipations for Future Research. The entire book was completely revised in the light of additional research since publication of the original edition. Thirteen of the twenty chapters in the first edition were updated by their authors, six so extensively that they amount to new chapters, with changes in title and order of authors in the case of coauthored chapters. Hypnosis: Developments in Research and New Perspectives is intended for researchers in hypnosis and clinical practitioners in medicine and psychology. The focus, as indicated by the changed subtitle, is on developments since publication of the original editions: empirical studies, experiments with physiological indicators of hypnosis, and theoretical uses associated with use of hypnosis as a research tool. Altogether, this second edition is a valuable overall guide to an intriguing topic.
